    Thank for the tips. Recently tried separate audio recorder, gopro along with track addict when was at bedford autodrome recently. The expose setting would of came in handy as was alot of trial and error on the day.

    Great PSA Dan, I hate watching a onboard footage where you can't even see the road because the whole windscreen is glowing brighter than the sun.

    Nice to know I wasn't the only person to realize this lol. First things I normally do with a gopro is turn off hypersmooth and set EV to -0.5. Maybe I should try -1.0 to see how that does 🤔...

    • @dannyDC2
      @dannyDC2  Місяць тому +2

      I was -1.5 at the weekend, despite it being overcast british december. Looked great. I guess its a style..

    Thanks for sharing the secrets. You touched on camera placement but I would add hands and steering wheel should always be in frame pointing forward for any onboard driving video. Pointing at the windshield/windscreen, nose cam or pointing it at the driver tells the viewer nothing.

    • @dannyDC2
      @dannyDC2  Місяць тому

      I’m not 100% what you mean here.
      I would always try to mount either centrally or on the B pillar. Pointing at the windscreen gives the camera the best chance to get the lighting right. Steering wheel should be visible for driving inputs, but it would be my preference for the exterior to take priority.

    • @ErewhonGB
      @ErewhonGB Місяць тому +1

      If you're racing it also depends on what the regs say. Some say that you must be able to see the forward view, steering wheel and pedals from one camera.

    • @twostep9266
      @twostep9266 Місяць тому

      @@dannyDC2 I like the way you have it setup. I was referring to setups where the camera is suction mounted to the windscreen or dash but all you see is the outside and a bit of the dash. I like to see the drivers hand inputs. Your videos are always great viewing because you give those angles plus pedal cam!
      There seems to be 2 types of video styles: Top Gear and Best Motoring. I would classify yours as Best Motoring/Hot Version which is my personal favorite. If you're familiar with JayEmm, I would consider that Top Gear style. The big production guys like Henry Catchpole and Throttle house are more Top Gear style with the crazy angles.

    • @twostep9266
      @twostep9266 Місяць тому

      @@ErewhonGB That sounds perfect to me. So many pro racing series get this wrong or the teams are just being clever so there is no incriminating onboard footage in the event of an incident. I stopped watching a lot of Ring Lap videos because of too many angles that should be in one.

    Would the exposure and hyper smooth settings still be correct if it was externally mounted on a roll cage? I have a Caterham style kit car and want to get decent tracksay footage. Also what go pro do you recommend for quality and features. Currently use a Hero 7 White and it's crap! I have a budget of around £300

    • @dannyDC2
      @dannyDC2  Місяць тому +1

      if its statically mounted anywhere there's no need for hypersmoth. If it acted just as a stabiliser like with other action cameras maybe you could leave it on, but it doesn't.
      I'd buy a Hero 12 if I were you

    Also be reeeeally careful not to fatfinger the thing into photo or timelapse mode. its a special kind of disappointment when you go to check the vids of a great day and realise you have basically nothing!
    thanks for tips though, will try them out next time.
