    Sweet! Just got mine today,
    My Turnigy Reaktor was killed by my Skyrc efuel, they both went into a "Death Roll" smoke and sparks, hey after 15 years, no complaints. I use spider cables to charge and balance, with banana plugs so cannibalize the female receptacles now need some harness to keep them separated.

    John - is the fan in all the time ? The K2 version is very noisy but wanted to ask at low levels (1c ) does the fan come on straight away ? Thanks

      It's only on when the internal temp is high enough to warrant turning it on and it's throttled based on cooling demand. Just as I demo @ 11:37

    Hi John. Great review. I love Isdt chargers. I was curious, how are you getting 28v out of your dps600’s ? I only get 25.2 out of a pair of mine in series. Did you do a voltage mod?

      @Dallas117 - Good eye. To answer your question - I don't know? I presume the input voltage was not reading correctly while shooting the video? Two of my DSP600's in series like yours are right around 25V. When I hook my Q8 up to them now, it's reading 25.1V which is what my iCharger S6 is also indicating.

      If you want the full power output, you need to feed it with a power supply that gives the maximum input voltage and power the Q8 is rated for (30V @1000W). I however primarily use a Meanwell 1000-24 supply with it which is fine. But have also used two DPS600 supplies in series.     I use lipo battery charger Q8 Isdt 1000W, and the input power is 24vol 30A.
    When I charge 4 batteries of 6s 5000mah at the same time through the charger, does the balace mode work at its best?

    I'm thinking of getting an isdt d1 as a first charger. Do you think the included DC cable will charge just fine or would it heat up quickly or something? I'm not an expert on chargers.

      Sorry, I don't know much about the D1 other than its 240W & max 10Amp power rating and have no idea what cable/s are included. Don't need very big wire for 10A.

      Can't go wrong with Meanwell power supplies either - my second choice.
      No matter what supply you use, just ensure you size the supply close to the maximum voltage and wattage the charger can deliver (assuming you want to use the charger at its rated full capacity). In the case of the iSDT Q8 Max - no more than 34 VDC and at least 1000Watts. The two series DPS-600 supplies I run mine on provide 24VDC and 1150Watts (almost 50 Amps). You can of course power it at lower voltages and current, you just won't be able to use it to full voltage and current charging capacity which most folks rarely do.

    Hi, Do you know if the ISDT Q8 supplements Boost function? For example - 12V Car battery and bump/boost up to charge 24v cells?

      Yes, keeping in mind that the rules of electricity still apply (double the output voltage, and half the maximum current output).

    hi I had a question! condition, what is its use in this charger and why is it between 4 volts and not more for pb??? Does it show the voltage of each cell?

      That is a LiPo example shown in the video, has nothing to do with PB. A LiPo cell is fully charged at 4.2V, but this charger as shown allows you to adjust that end termination cell voltage if you wanted. I for example charge my LiPo's to 4.18V per cell as it's slightly better for them from a life standpoint.

    Hi, I have a question: I just bought the same charger, but at the end of the day when the screen turns blue, the amp of the device does not become zero (top left) and is constantly increasing and decreasing !! But the battery amp does not change, I wanted to know what the reason is ??? I saw in your clip that the amp of your device is 0, but for me it changes from 0.5 to 0.3 amps! Please help us, thank you

      In the video, mine is also hunting after the charge cycle is finishes and as I mentioned at that time point, reason is it's still balancing the cells. If your pack/s are unhealthy, that might be why it balances longer and/or needs to put a higher load on them, but 0.5A isn't that high considering maximum balance load is 1.5A.

    In the charger of the xk k110, it says 500mah on the circuit board which I'm guessing is the max current battery you can charge. Do you think it'll be fine to charger some bigger 520mah batteries with it?

      That's likely the maximum current (500 mA) the charger can output, but without load testing it, that is just a guess. It likely has nothing to do with what capacity battery you can charge. You can charge a battery at any charge current you wish. LiPo's normal and safe charge rate is 1C (1x the capacity). You can of course charge at lower than 1C rates for maximum health. As the little USB charger that comes with the K110 is a dual port charger, I would presume the 500 mAh is total with each of the charge ports outputting a maximum of 250 mA, but again, without it testing it, that is just an educated guess.

    Great video as usual John! My iMax B6 Ultimate is getting long in the tooth. Looking to get a replacement myself. Since you are an iCharger fan, I am surprised you didn't go with the X8. Specs are similar on that to the Q8 I see. Do you plan on doing a review on the X8 at some point?

      i have both isdt q8 max and icharger x8 the q8 max fan is much louder than the x8 but q8max have usb port to harge phone or gopro cameras both chargers are great

      Yep, total negligence. I accidently plugged it into my one PS while configured to run my 4010Duo charger @ 50 VDC. In short, I over powered it and blew the input power side of the main power board. I've done it once before by mistake, and it survived, but I obviously weakened the components and seeing that it has been used pretty hard it's whole life, just couldn't take one more dumb mistake. 🙂

    Excellent video John,
    I'm thinking of using one of these iSDT Q8 chargers for a different purpose than usual and setting it up to behave a bit like a solar charge controller. In this configuration it would remain connected to the battery at all times and when ever charge is taken out of the battery the Q8 recharges it without needing me to start the charging cycle again. Is this possible?

    I have this charger and love it... Any idea what the "BattGO" option in the settings is? I have the iSDT BattGo cell checker, but not sure what this option in the Q8 is? It's grayed out.

      @Cali FPV - BattGo is a proprietary smart battery technology that is used by several LiPo brands. No serious hobbyist I know would use them, but that is only based on the feedback I get - totally anecdotal. They are primarily meant for beginners who don't understand the basics of LiPo care (charging, discharging, storage, internal resistance etc.) If you want to learn about BattGo's technology - visit their site: www.battgo.org/

    Have you tried the icharger x6 or s6? I am struggling to choose between the 3. The q8 max is def the best bang for buck but I am surprised that while q8 max is still small, its quite a bit larger than the x6 or s6. The x6 for example does 800w 30a weighs only like 168g or something. Its 110$ so a little bit more but does seem it doesnt have the same feature set as the q8 max. And then you have the s6, which I think has the q8 max beat all the way around but its also 30$ more.

      The S6 is a better charger if you are looking for best size for the amount of power. It's also better quality, more features, and the display won't scratch by looking at it the wrong way like the Q8. Cost per watt is higher however at around 12c per Watt for the S6 vs about 9c for the Q8. Most newbies will find the Q8 easier to use because it only has a fraction of all the features the X6 or S6 have, but they don't have a USB power output, and that feature can be pretty handy for some people that have USB power requirements out at the flying field or track. All depends what features you are looking for in your charger; but if small size, power, and quality are the top boxes you need to check off your list, the S6 is the clear choice IMO.

      @@Rchelicopterfun some of the ichargers x6 and my x8 have issue with the fan failure the buzzing soud starts after couple months because they use cheap quality fans with slight bearing but the Q8 chargers uses the hi quality ball bearing type fans and i never see any fan failure of Q8 fan

      @@Rchelicopterfun thanks man. I ended up going with the q8 max. I got it for 88$ with no tax. I almost bought the s6 but I did read about low quality fans in the x6/x8. Do you know if that’s the same with the s6?

      @doom3crazy - I'm sure you'll be very happy with the Q8M, that is a great price! No idea on the S6 fan longevity? It was my understanding the fan issue on the X series was with early units, short lived and iCharger quickly addressed the issue. Regardless, the fans are inexpensive & easy to replace in these things if/when they fail (with the mechanical & electronic skills most average RC hobbyists have).

      Between the two, I do like the S6 a little bit better because of the user interface. Both however charge & balance batteries equally well, and both have been working great over the past year. And yes, both show the capacity that goes back into the pack during a charge cycle or take out of the packs during a discharge cycle.

      Simple - with powerful chargers like these, having a separate PS makes the most logical sense for several reasons:
      1. It allows the individual to purchase the PS based on their specific needs (current, voltage, Watts, input voltage, chargers they already have and budget).
      2. Pair a powerful 1000-2000W charger with a 1000-2000W 24-50VDC power supply and you would be looking at several hundred dollars not to mention something the size & weight of a cinder block.
      3. It allows you to use your existing PS/s with new/future charger/s - again saving money.
      4. It allows easy field charging with no bulky & heavy built in supply by way of a 12 or 24VDC vehicle power source.
      5. If either the PS or Charger fail, you would be hooped with a combination unit, having to send the entire works out for repair or replacement when only one component is faulty.

      Totally depends on charging current, not voltage; provided of course the voltage output of the power supply is within the charger's stated usable voltage range.       4.2V x 6 x 30A = 756W. Plus some efficiency loss. I use a 24V 1000W supply.

      Nope. As I said in the video, voltage input range is 10 to 34 VDC and up to 33 Amps if you want to use it to its full potential. A 5V and generally under 1 Amp USB power source wouldn't even have enough power to turn it on.

    As always, a very informative video, John. "Destroy function", maybe nice to have, but is it a really neat feature? To run a battery down to zero volt, how about letting the heli rotor (or airplane propeller) run until it simply stops spinning?

      Several reason you would never do that. Primary ones: 1. Very hard on brushless ESCs (high ripple voltage damaging to the MOSFETs). 2. Most ESC wouldn't even allow it to happen (LV protection would kick in long before the pack was even close to fully discharged as most LV cutoff's are programmed to 3.0V or higher per cell under load). 3. Under higher loads, the LiPo's would get so bloody hot running them down like that, there is a good chance they may burst or catch on fire (all depends on the load applied). 4. If your ESC also powers your on board electronics via a BEC, it would also be very hard on your on board electronics (BEC, RX, servos etc); first brownout restarts of the micro controllers and then possible failures once again due to high ripple voltage. In short, it's never done, LiPo instructions are explicit it's never done, and is exactly why the destroy feature is a handy one to have for those that don't have the correct voltage light bulbs, big resistors, or have the time to submerge their LiPo in salt water for several days to drain it to a zero voltage potential for safe disposal.

      Keep in mind they are hooked up in parallel so the resistance drops as per Ohms law in parallel circuits.
