I just don’t see the same thing in Ser Cristen as most others do. He hit Dameon in the back at the tourney - that’s Daemon behavior, not “white knight” behavior. He breaks his oath and sleeps with his “ward” so to speak, a drunk teenager. Asks her to run away with him, not for her sake but so he can justify breaking his oath to himself. He confesses to clear his own conscience with zero regard for the consequences to Rhaynera. He is a grown man who discovered he was not the infallible shinning knight he always thought he was and couldn’t handle it
Alot of the events that you described conventionally leave out contexts that explain the reasoning or lack thereof of the actions of the character. This is just very one dimensional bashing of a layered and complicated character.

Cole's story made Alicent realize it was Rhaenyra who was responible for her father's firing and exile, which in this world might as well be an invitation for the downfall of the whole family. Couldn't have been a better impetus for her to act.

Give me the aesthetics of the red hue of the weirdwood tree glowing in twilight, give me the flickering lights, give me the gloomy ambience of a GoT wedding with an equally gloomy soundtrack & hook it to my veins! The very underrated heartfelt exchange Otto & Alicent had at the beginning was the most significant moment of the episode. Otto is not wrong. You either hope for Rhaenyra’s mercy in the future or you act now. It's the Tywin Jaime "we can establish a dynasty that last a thousand years" moment. The events at the wedding sets up the first chess pieces for Dance of Dragons. This is the episode the Greens come into their own. *Rhaenyra and Laenor were exchanging wedding vows, but it was Alicent and Criston who were getting “married”.*
Otto is wrong. Rhaenyra wouldn’t go after them for no reason. If they support her then she’d never go after them. Otto only sees it that way because he looks at the world through the lens of a snake because he himself is a snake.

One of the few channels that similar to me love Rhaenyras character and her and Daemon are my favourites but like me you aren't blind to her actions and roles in all of this, she now has these annoying stans that just defend her every action and over-hate Alicent and Criston. Up until what we have seen here Alicent has had rhaenyras back. Everyone jumps even here on Cristons selfish proposal, like when has Rhaenyra done anything not selfish up until this point? Criston made mistakes too but let's not act like rhaenyra didn't basically use him for her own pleasure and then want to continue using him (and sure maybe get romantic) but he's supposed to live his life in secret waiting to get caught and beheaded? Then her and Daemon acting reckless in the wedding. For me the best part about this show is its not black and white, actions have consequences but so many especially Rhaenyra fans want to justify everything she does and blame everyone else. The real victim in this story is Viserys, poor guy just wants to support his daughter and live in peace 😂😂😂
Agreed! I think the show is way more interesting because all the characters are really complex and largely TRYING to do the right thing. But Rhaenyra IS an incredibly spoiled princess, so she’s naturally going to do selfish shit! And Criston is in a deep mess, having broken his vows. It’s easier if he tells himself a story about them being wildly in love and wanting to run away together.

With the large crowd and all of the dancing, there’s a lot of obfuscation around how things actually went down when Ser Criston turned violent. Joffrey definitely provoked him, but who finally pushed who to do what, and what their motives were. It could have been to stop the very public display of Daemon and Rhaenyra; having everyone see their taboo relationship confirmed may have been too dangerous for someone. Someone else being attacked may have just been a distraction to stop that from being out in the open.
Wasn’t that such a fascinating directing choice? I love that we experienced it just like anyone in the crowd - caught in the sudden chaos and unable to see what was happening.

I couldn’t help but laugh at hearing you describe Criston as a “Hufflepuff” earlier in the episode only to learn later on that Criston fucking sucks. Also this wasn’t really him “losing himself” with him being a good honorable man before this. This was his true colors showing in the biggest way so far. We get the first glimpse of it in episode one where he attacks Daemon from behind which is an unhonorable act. Then episode three when he reaches for his sword to attack the stag that was posing no threat and Rhaenyra had to tell him no. Then he willingly breaks his vows with Rhaenyra. I’m not taking the “instigation” line as he was forced. He was “seduced”. He’s a Kingsguard sworn to celibacy who answers to the king not Rhaenyra and he could’ve said no with no consequences if he so pleased and Rhaenyra never would’ve done anything to him. He willingly made the choice to break his vows. The look he takes at his cloak and armor before putting it down and going right into kissing Rhaenyra was his choice. He cared more about wanting Rhaenyra than he did his vows. Criston’s not a good man.
He also casually offered to kill Jason Lannister. He made it seem like a joke, but, I think he might have done it if Rhaenyra said yes lol And the way he says that he wanted to marry Rhaenyra because he thought it would get him his honour back, not just because he loves her and wants to go and have a life with her. He wanted his “honour” back. And that’s a big red flag for me.
I think Lyonel Strong is the master manipulator and that he's moving his two sons like chess pieces. Harwin always seems to be in the right place at the right time and Larys is the Littlefinger.
Lets not forget that Rhaenyra has a lot to lose if her affair with Criston is widely known - Criston equally didnt consider the folly of it. His honour obvs didnt mean enough to him. So no my sympathy for him is not much. I agree Rhae needs to learn how to talk to people, she doesnt consider that not everyone is going to go along with her decisions and she needs to start realising her actions hurt others.
Ser Criston Cole is a honorable high value medieval man as opposed to these debuachorous WAP ass bishes in king's landing. Rhae Rhae belong to the streets. Rhaenyra and Daemon would turn the capital into a brothel was the quote I believe.
the scene where Daemon kills his wife is just so funny to me, idk why of all things they changed this from the book, it was not necessary in my opinion. it looks goofy af, the dialogue also is not good, i was laughing the whole time bc i couldn't take it seriously. i would be more scared of him if he joked around playing with a stone in his hand than this, sorry 😂
They are portaying Corlys Velaryon as a power hungry asshole, which he is not. WTF are the writers thinking? How could Martin have approved this? In the books he is my favorite character, here he's on par with Larys Strong. Nuff said.

Lets not forget that Rhaenyra has a lot to lose if her affair with Criston is widely known - Criston equally didnt consider the folly of it. His honour obvs didnt mean enough to him. So no my sympathy for him is not much. I agree Rhae needs to learn how to talk to people, she doesnt consider that not everyone is going to go along with her decisions and she needs to start realising her actions hurt others.

the scene where Daemon kills his wife is just so funny to me, idk why of all things they changed this from the book, it was not necessary in my opinion. it looks goofy af, the dialogue also is not good, i was laughing the whole time bc i couldn't take it seriously. i would be more scared of him if he joked around playing with a stone in his hand than this, sorry 😂

They are portaying Corlys Velaryon as a power hungry asshole, which he is not. WTF are the writers thinking? How could Martin have approved this? In the books he is my favorite character, here he's on par with Larys Strong. Nuff said.
