The dragon skull at the end with Viserys talking to his daughter is Balerion. That dragon helped the Targaryens conquer Westeros. When Viserys was a young man he rode him but Balerion was very old and died shortly after. He never bonded with another dragon and is very wary of dragons.

Balerion was supposed to be the biggest dragon too, so this is like peak dragon time. They eventially got smaller due to being raised in captivity.

Targaryens have had incestuous marriages for as long as Aegon I the Conqueror and his two sister wives, Visenya and Rhaenys. Since they believe in keeping the bloodline pure because they are the last valyrian family that can control and have special bonds with dragons. Queen Aemma Arynn is actually Viserys' cousin and Rhaenys and Corlys are also related since the Velaryons are close relatives of Targaryens because both houses are of Valyrian descent.

This is awesome, I love that you guys understand Daemon. I seen a lot of casual viewers thinking he's the villain when OBVIOUSLY, Otto is after the throne and doesn't want Daemon to have it because 1. Daemon can't be controlled and 2. Otto would be dismissed as Hand immediately because Daemon sees him for what he is. He's no doubt been crapping on Daemon to the king and misrepresenting things to drive a wedge between them. Yeah, it's no coincidence the queen dies, Otto sends Alicent to visit the king, and Daemon is denounced as heir. Otto is a massive Littlefinger.

Some of what you write is correct but your analysis is too one sided, just as much as those who say Daemon is Joffrey.
In House of Dragon all the main characters will have good and bad traits, strengths and flaws. Nobody is inherently good or bad.

    • @ToonRaider

@@gaborkiss650 I know, they talked about some of that so I didn't mention it. Nobody in this show is purely good or evil. Daemon is one of the more complicated people. So what I said wasn't to make him seem purely good, it was to bring some of the more positive aspects to his character to light. I'm a big fan of Daemon and I loved him in Fire and Blood, what was written about him from the maester's POV. My only point was that he is not Joffrey.

Viserys is the first king without a dragon which adds to this air of weakness. By sending his most powerful and loyal dragonrider away he opens himself to the power hungry crows. Daemon is GRRM's favorite Targ so expect a very interesting character from him! Alicent and Rhaenyra are very very different, this includes Alicent's dislike of dragons while Rhaenyra is a true dragon lord. This relationship is a departure from the book so it will be interesting to watch!

Aemma was Viserys' cousin which is why she has the Arryn name but Targaryen features. The Targaryens still usually practiced incest though. Jaehaerys (the king at the beginning before Viserys) and his wife/sister Alyssane had a bunch of children, and since they were trying to build a closer relationship with the other parts of the realm, they set up more marriages outside the family. I think the only children of theirs that married each other were Baelon and Alyssa (Viserys and Daemon's parents).
I'm excited for what they plan to do with Alicent's character and her relationship with Rhaenyra as the show goes on. They're pretty much the two central characters of the Dance in the book (with Daemon coming in as the third after them). It always felt like she wasn't really given a lot of depth in the book and the first episode has me optimistic that they'll go somewhere more complex with her character.
Also excited for when we finally get to see Vhagar, the oldest dragon currently alive at the time and the only dragon left from the original Targaryen conquest of westeros.

The show its going to show a lot difficult pregnacies cause one of the reasons of the fall of some kings its cause they get obssesed about wives giving a heir and even after that they keep pressure for more children.
Rhaenrya colar in the coronation have every house simbol on it as representantion of loyalty.

I feel Daemon say what he say because he already saw how the others wasnt going to make him King and knew his brother would keep fighting for him to become his heir for the throne no matter what. You can tell he cares for his necie...(in anyway anyone want to take the way he cares) If his brother kept fighting for him to become King it would cause them to even have more of a distance relationship and he didn't want that. So at the brothel he say what he say knowing it would get right back to the King so he would instead be push to choose his daughter to become heir then him. The funeral scene makes me think this because he told her "your father need you" and she say "i am not his son. The one who bring him real happiness is gone." . He knew during this moment they need each other. Well i hope this is why lol because after watch the first look of them explain what type of person is Daemon. He will do whatever to keep the family on top. 🤷‍♀️

The targaryens started with incest and plural marriage. Part of Maegor's reign was a revolt against that and the Old King, when he took the throne, abolished plural marriage but got the faith to accept incest.
Viserys' wife Aemma is his cousin. She is the daughter of one of the old King's daughters. She was married into the Lord Arryn. So its still keeping it pretty close, lol.

On the throne being uncomfortable: yup! "Aegon I intended for it to be uncomfortable, believing that "a king should never sit easy".
Really enjoyed your reaction & discussion, looking forward to the rest of the season! I think you're the first reactors I've seen that pointed out the pep talk scene and Daemon's insecurities.
For the incest/plural marriage thing it's actually pretty recent! Aegon I had his two wives and no one really complained, but one of his sons (Maegor the Cruel, he got mentioned at the tourney) went a bit wild and ended up with six wives, the Black Brides. One of them was his nieces Rhaena (who is actually believed to be a lesbian and has a nice little romance with a cool sea farer lady later). The Faith of the Seven didn't like that and rebelled violently (that's where the Faith Militant got their origin).
Maegor eventually died on the Iron Throne (either poisoned, killed by one of his wives or by the throne itself) and his nephew Jaehaerys took over. He's the old King at the start of this episode. He married his sister Alysanne (who is probably one of the best characters in extended ASOIAF canon) in secret in defiance of his own mother and the Faith, but ended up spreading the "Doctrine of Exceptionalism" that essentially allowed Targaryens to wed siblings due to being ~special.
So, the Targs can 100% do some incest by the time this show rolls around. Plural marriages however are a no-go afaik.

It looks like you folks appreciated the GOT nod with the Aegon dream/prophecy about the Long Night.. and the king holding the "cats-paw" Valerian steel dagger that Arya used to kill the night King with.
Interestingly, that "dream" of Aegon's is not written specifically in any of the book(s), but its reported that George RR Martin told this dream story of Aegon's to the show's creators.. and had strong input into the King's dialogue with his daughter over this foreshadowing. So.. its now official "unofficial" canon.

The incest thing has been going on for generations even @ the time of House of the Dragon. Even though they have different last names, doesn't mean they aren't a relation. The men do have a tendency to get around. The husband of Rhaenys is "rumored" to be a cousin or possibly half brother to King Viserys, hence the white hair. That is also why their children have the whitish blonde hair. The Targaryens r very much the Hapsburgs of Game of Thrones. Good reaction ladies.😊

    • @jacobwhite4895

He is not rumored to be anything. The Velaryon family is extremely closely related to the Targaryen family. Aegon I's mother was Valaena Velaryon, Viserys' great-grandmother through Jaehaerys, his grandfather, was Alyssa Velaryon. When there wasn't a Targaryen female for them to marry they married into the Velaryon Family, if they had a female close in age to the Targaryen male they wanted to marry off. And the white hair comes from the fact that the Velaryons, like the Targaryens and Celtigars came from Valyria before the Doom, they just weren't Dragon Lords.

    • @gailf1617
      @gailf1617 10 місяців тому

Princess' Rhaenys' husband is Lord Corlys "Sea Snake" Velaryon, probably the most wealthy man in Westeros and one of the most powerful. He is definitely not Viserys' half-brother, but he is a distant relative and they are both of Valyrian ancestry (having silver-white hair). Princess Rhaenys decided she would marry Corlys when she was 16 (and he was quite a bit older, at least in the book) and asked her grandfather, King Jaehaerys, for permission, which he gave. Rhaenys, already a dragon rider, arrived at their wedding on the back of her dragon, Meleys, called "the Red Queen".

Great reaction. I haven’t read Fire & Blood, but remember names from the original series when they spoke of this time period, so that and the trailer gave me a pretty good idea of where this is heading early on. So I’m more curious about who will side with who in that fight. I’m wondering if Otto’s wife had a link to the king with the wear her dress comment, or if it was just a nod to wear something more adult. Either way Otto certainly seems like the Little Finger of the show to me so far. I also really hated the king didn’t even bother to explain to his wife what they had to do to her. I know medieval times, women basically has no voice, but letting her die terrified was awful. It’s tainted him for me. I think I’m going to like Daemon. He seems to be the complicated, misunderstood one and seeing as my fav character in GoT is Jaime Lannister I can see myself rooting for him the same way.

Oh another thing, this isn't a spoiler since the show cut it, but at the great Council of 101, when Viserys is elected king over Rhaenys, the reason why Daemon isn't there is because he was off rallying troops for in case something were to happen with the succession in case Viserys lost or Rhaenys started some beef. Like he loves his brother and respects him so much, he was willing to go to war at that point to ensure he got the throne. So yeah, there's no doubt Daemon loves him. But I think the show cut that part so that when you're first introduced to Daemon, you're not sure who's side he's on. But of course by the end, you know he's looking out for his brother. Still, seeing Daemon rallying troops to support his brother's claim would've been a cool way to introduce him. Oh well 😅

Good reaction ladies. In defense of GOT, although I agree that the last 2 seasons of the show were poorly executed/ rushed, I think the reveal of Danny being the true villian of the series was actually a good thing for society. GRRM has stated that GOT is an examination of what it is to truly "rule wisely." In the show there were numerous examples of both good, and terrible leadership styles. By far, the most dangerous type of leader is one that is charismatic, mentally unbalanced, morally compromised, and self entitled (with a seemingly populist ideology). (Sound like someone we all unfortunately know in the real world?) If you re-watch the the first series from the start, you will notice these characteristics in Danny from the start. Danny is the perfect mirror by which to view the more diehard followers of ole' 45. Emotional investment and identification in a bad leader is a hard spell to break.

Anyone else getting Vampire Diaries/Salvatore Bros vibes? I think Rhaenys is the Tyrion of this show. It probably won't be completely exact parallel but she's the one overlooked, the strategic one who sees the big picture, the person who drinks and knows things.

I’ve been saying, it’s upsetting rooting for another bad Da(e)mon!

daemon is a complicated character. But he is definitely not like Ramsey. He is more of a Jamie Lannister.

For sure! But I do see the similarities in acting choices.

I disagree. Damien has a loyalty to his family that Ramsey would never have.

Here's my outside the box theory for the rest of the show, having absolutely 0 knowledge of the lore or anything. Matt Smith is the most famous actor on the show, so could that mean that he gets an unceremonious premature death in typical Game of Thrones fashion?
