Fishing in BAD WEATHER - Can you catch fish in bad weather?

  • The bad weather has hit, we have got gale force winds for over a week and the sea is too dangerous to go out in. I challenge myself to find a way to catch some fish regardless of the conditions.

One thing that is important when doing this is knowing what the tide is doing before going onto the rocks. I did explain what state of tide I had. Safety first and have fun. 😊🎣

Too true , I found a mark desperately wanted to fish it , the boss said no and as usual she was right . There was a north easterly the sea was a bit choppy but looked constant , because she said no we sat down took a drink gathering our breath watching the sea , nothing changed visually but in a second the ledge I would have been stood on was gone , seconds later it was back . Always respect the power of the sea it can change in a heartbeat without warning ⚠️

One of the main reasons I truly love your channel is because of the way you treat the creatures you catch. So many anglers all over the world treat fish and other sea creatures like "things" instead of living beings. I see anglers throwing their catches back into the water like they were footballs or garbage, without a single care for their treatment of the animals. You, however, are consistently gentle, thoughtful and compassionate. You approach each session as a lesson in conservation and respect for the Earth's amazing and beautiful creatures. Thank you so much for standing as an example to all of us, and thank you so much for your patient teaching about the ocean and all of its treasures.

Thank you for that Lori. I have at times spread myself a little thin in my effort to keep everyone entertained and distracted during these difficult times. Your comment has really made me happy. I have been asked before why I show everything such care. My answer being “Supplement to the fact that these are living creatures. One day all this will be inherited by James and his generation. I want to make sure there is something worth handing over.”😊💙

You know I Love this channel this brings back many a memory from when I was a kid growing up. Me and my friends always hung around the water, we always said to each other lets go down on the "rocks" and see what we could catch and see in the tidal pools, exactly what you see there we would see. The 1st fish you caught we called a "conner" crabs, lobsters, cod fish, american place, yellow tail, ect and love the call of the sea gull I remember when we go out on some of the long points of land and fish we could some times even catch Halibut which was a real treat to bring home... the memories thx very much... cheers Have a very long family tree in England, who knows we may be related in some way or another. lol lol

Good to see you showing the fun that can be had around piers. Great places for those who are less agile. I do see a lot of anglers using gear that is far to heavy on these marks and it’s good that you showed what can be caught on standard spinning gear or even lighter.

Good morning John from Nz. Well down here, most kids soon learn about catching spotties. Which are just wrasse. For a lot of kids, it's the first fish they catch off a wharf. Legal limit down here for 2021 is 30. According to my research, there appears to be no size limit.? They can be eaten, but I find them too boney. I have smoked them. But when I was a liveaboard, my boat had a woodstove and I took only 6 big ones, and used the heads and made fish head soup, and let them simmer on the hot plate of the stove. The rest of the fish was used as berley. Loving your channel mate. Keep up loading. Atb from down here.

By & large the species were all small fish types but what it did show oh so well was the brilliant way that you treat the fish SO gently & with such compassion. They are living creatures not garbage to be thrown around. Well commentated on by you with your brilliant style & presentation. Cheers, Don from South Aust.

I nearly missed this one John!! (Lot's going on at the moment ;-) ) I take my hat off to you once more - that was awesome down on that first mark especially! I love the sea when it's like that but for different reasons; it reminds me of when we lived in Ventnor and I'd sleep to the sound of the sea crashing on the shoreline...

Nice one mate. You've inspired me yet again to fish when the weather is pants! Good to see you releasing your fish by hand rather than throwing them to the horizon as I see so many sea anglers sadly do so often. Brilliant!! 👍🍻

Without doubt mate, especially when we mortals post on public channels. I remember when I was a professional falconer carrying out contract pest control. Boy did the bunny huggers go ballistic or what? That's when I learned not to expect Joe Public to think as we do concerning wild food & the dispatching of wildlife for whatever purpose. Enough of me anyway, keep up your amazing fun filled educational professional work which you do so well. How much you remind me of me of myself & Hannah doing similar to what you do . Just love your programs & your way of doing things John. Blessed are we!! 👍🍻

Those Wrasse look almost identical to the Cunners we have on this side of the pond. Ours are more of a reddish color though. Hardly anyone targets them specifically. They are mostly a bycatch when fishing for mackerel or harbor pollock.

Another good video, plenty wrasse there for you , if you can find that corner you can almost always fish in bad weather.

You get some cracking colour with the rass even in that weather. Good video it looked cold but at least you caught tight lines till the next one

Im watching your video when i'm actually supposed to be out on a fishing charter.
But due to Thunderstorms today we had to cancel.
    Enjoyed the video mate !
You and the family stay safe and healthy !
From your friend on the other side of the pond.
P.S. - We catch several species of Hairy Blenny's here but only about half the size of the one you caught.
