      John - a handy tip to keep the vehicle doors from freezing like at 01:00. Spray some silicone on a paper towel or rag and wipe down the rubber weatherstripping. The doors won't stick again and you won't run the risk of tearing the weatherstrip off the door.

      Unfortunately here in Ontario... our lakes and rivers are being impacted by people not following fishing regulations. I have seen new arrivals to Canada fill 5gal buckets with undersized out of season fish on many many occasions. Not so much now... Since MNR officers carry hand held translators.

    Funny Story: When I was young or a bit older than James.. I used to fish with my dad. He would put a sinker on my line because he didn't have the patience(nor did I) to catch a fish. What did I catch you ask? Yep... crabs. I would reel them up and of course, they would drop off. That kept me quite occupied for a LONG time! :)

    • @TheFishLocker
      @TheFishLocker  3 роки тому

      - Thank you. I always use braid mainline on my sea fishing rods. Glad the float showed on camera, its not easy to keep it in shot all the time. I'll answer your question with a question. How would you set a float normally?

    • @PiscatorUK-Fishing
      @PiscatorUK-Fishing 3 роки тому

      @@TheFishLocker I’ve never tried braid for my float fishing and only used mono. I would normally use something like gum gum and just tie a stop knot but sometimes the not can work loose over time if your adjusting the depth often and sometimes when casting the float the little tag ends on the stop knot can catch the line.

      - Cheers mate. It’s hard going at this time of year isn’t it. Do you get any decent flounder fishing your way? Ours has died a death over the past 5 or 6 years. I blame the increase of seals in the estuaries.

    • @shorefishingessex
      @shorefishingessex 3 роки тому +2

      It's a problem here too John, the flounder are around but not in the numbers they used to be, they are one of my favourite fish to catch as I cut my teeth shore fishing years ago catching flounder from the tidal Thames, catches into double figures were commonplace, not anymore though sadly. I never thought about the seals before but their numbers have increased around my parts as the flounder numbers have decreased, whatever the cause it's a shame as it's another, so called bread & butter fish taken away from the shore angler in the South East along with eels, codling, plaice, scad & dover sole, we even used to have a good run of twaite shad but I haven't heard of one being caught in years.

      I know there’s no way to be sure, but I have my doubts that fish would survive. If it was a salmon, and it got handled that much, getting lifted up several times, hands in the gills and all, there would be an uproar in the comments section. Question is, is there any evidence that sea fish can tolerate the kind of treatment that would be expected to kill a game fish?
      I’m not being disrespectful, I really like this channel, and I’ve seen FAR worse elsewhere, with people dragging fish over rough stones and so forth, scales going everywhere, and them seeming to assume they’ll survive just because they swim away.

      @@jamesoshea359 Ok, I’ll not demand references to those studies, but if they were proper studies there would be handling protocols. You’d need to check them to be sure.
      I’m not quite ready to concede on the point that, in general, sea fish fish seem to be subjected to much rougher handling than freshwater. In part it’s understandable, sea fish are usually caught in more challenging conditions, rocks, heavy seas, moving boats and so on. Tackle tends to be heavier, and hooks are mostly large and barbed. Level of mortality is still open to question. I’m not trying to point the finger, and I’m no expert, but I just wouldn’t touch a fish’s gills if I intended to release it.

I have so much I would like to ask you but in one message that would be rather ridiculous!!
      I would however like to ask a simple question which is what is the retractable landing net you use? Thanks Colin.

      I apologize for asking this because you probably have a video on how the sliding float is set, but I’ve not been able to find it. If you want to fish a depth of say 60 or 160 feet, do you actually have to measure out 60 or 160 feet of line and tie some kind of stop knot? I’m joking but hoping it’s some kind of magic float.lol😂
