Funny, I just stopped swinging like a 40 year old and started swinging like a nearly 70 year old. I'm casually swinging through the ball, taking a full back swing. I also putt and chip through the ball. Much Better Results!

You nailed it. When you stop AT THE BALL, your body stalls out, and your hands flip the face over. When I’m hitting a fade, I’ll rotate more aggressively, with more right side bend. This does exactly what you said, keeps the face stable longer. When hitting the draw, I’ll ease up on my rotation, which makes it easy to close the face a bit. I always take full practice swings, with a full finish, til I get the feel I want. Then, step up, and put the ball in a spot where it gets in the way of that exact practice swing. This is a GREAT video. Well done.

Would picking a spot in front of the ball also achieve the same result?...thanx

for your pistol shooting you need to do a bunch of dry-firing. just aiming and squeezing the trigger over and over, ensuring your point of aim stays on the bull through the trigger release. Now, i want you to figure out what the equivalent of that exercise would be for golf! ie a simulator that can measure your golf swings in numerous dimensions and aspects WITHOUT hitting a ball?

I have been working on ataying centered and strike improved but distance dropped. Need to combine both, right?

If your talking about your upper body staying centered then I would be careful staying too centered. That’s close to a stack and tilt motion. That swing style isn’t good for power. Loading to your trail leg is good for creating power and then having a good motion swinging through the ball is even better.

When you hit at the ball which is completely an instinctive action in golf you could never actually stop the swing at the ball so consequently the golfer just stops or cuts off the follow through way short of where it should go. This of course presents a whole host of other problems although with some athletic skill you can still play some decent golf but never with consistency. Plenty of decent golfers have never felt what it feels like to make a proper golf swing. I include myself in that category. The biggest thing that helped me was when I fully concentrate my focus on the handle or grip of the club. Just swing the grip of the club in an arc around the pivot of my body. In effect I feel like the butt of the club is just following the belt buckle as I turn back and through. With just some brief practice I was able to feel the leverage of a late release being able to use the big muscles to hoist the ball forward instead of just slapping at it with the flipping motion born of hitting at the ball. Totally different mindset.....Totally different game when I made this change.

being a hockey goalie i never learned a decent slapshot until i increased my follow through up and at the net like i was lifting the puck up, and lo and behold i was then able to hit a decent slapshot! i had previously focused on trying to impart as much force as i could TO the puck instead of hitting THROUGH it. to make the leap in golf, however, you have to have a lot more TRUST that your clubhead is going to connect with the ball. its kind of hard to miss a hockey puck....

@waynesorensen7071 good golfers take advantage of the stationary ball and club that only changes shape minimally during a swing. They are able to concentrate on the swing itself without worrying about clubhead ball contact. High handicaps is the opposite. The fixation on the ball ruins everything. I am fascinated with Bobby Jones and constantly look at videos and his writings. When asked if he looked at the ball he said it's like a fuzzy ball. He knows it's there. He's aware of it but it's just a blurry area. He's swinging beautifully, athletically and in balance where a ball just happens to be. The swing is the thing. Not the ball.
