You should do like generations of tanks again, but instead of making one tank and upgrading it to the Era, you should do something kinda like panzer I, II, III, IV where they are different tanks but built off the flaws of the previous design. To make it more challenging or fun you could address only one issue at a time so you have to prioritize armor, speed, or weapon damage depending on the era.

I can't help but to wonder if Co-op for this game would be amazing... especially for enabling fun stuff like Multi-Turret Tanks where the Tank Owner drives and Co-op Partners could man the other Turrets. Then it'd actually be possible for Multi-Turret Tanks to be GOOD to build.
Because french surrenders early to axis germany does mean their weapon were shit, instead most of their equipments were innovative and at least 2-3 years ahead in time in technology level compare to german equipments. Many newer model of french tanks in 1940 were still very effective to fight against 1945 era of other countries tanks, sadly they were abandoned because of logistics and morale issue after german army circumvented the frontline and strikes the back of the french army, forcing them to be captured.
just got this game and it really feels like light tanks are the WW2 meta I made a latewar tank that goes 75ish km/h with an 85mm gun and even though they don't have much in the way of armor they're hard to hit and have an armor penetration of 236mm which can kill most tanks in 1 shot so they consistently end up destroying the AI even if i just sit and do nothing (except for no tank's land that one took a few tries)
Gotta wonder how well you can make the cars and trucks from the Twisted Metal series since you're adept at finagling functioning wheels onto a car design. The cannons can just be really really tiny to act like machineguns with a small amount of gimbal for sanity's sake.
