months ago i made "stalinium", a mesh that's hundreds of 1mm plates spammed at +/-5° angles, since sprocket makes any shot ricochet at >85°, regardless of thickness, inside of a 25° elevation to target, it makes it so you always have a plate that's at least at this angle of incidence, making it completely unpenetrable. all while being about as light as a 35mm plate

Finally! Like a year ago I made spaced "composite" armour on many "MBTs" for historical snd style reasons. It's super cool that they will finally have an actual functional advantage! Hopefully this gets refined to be more accurate.

Working freeform spaced armor is a really nice change, since we previously had to use the restrictive singular armor plates. I made a cool leclerc this way, but now you get much more possibilities.
Already dones this before on my 300 ton tank, so... it has about 1000mm of effective armor on the front plate, plus an extra 200 effective, so.. around 1200-1500, plus the transmission allowing more armor...
I feel like at the moment velocity makes shells do weird stuff as well. I have a vehicle that has a total of 4 plates at different angles, total direct thickness of about 120mm, effective thickness of about 300mm and a 30mm shell with 130mm of pen, going about 1000m/s went through it like butter. It only stopped penetrating when the actual thickness of the plates (not counting angles thickness) exceeded the penetration of the shell.

I've made a merkava inspired tank with interal compartments divided by 30mm armor plating, safe to say it's very well protected while staying lightweight, because it allowed me to reduce the thickness of the UFP and LFP
My tanks are all STRV 103 adjacent doom wedges, most with a matching turret. I don't have penetration issues because I also have thicker armor to supplement the wedge.
In my opinion, all it does is counter sub caliber shells by destabilizing them and catch a majority of the stalling, I would use it a a primary tool to stop rounds, just reduce their effectiveness such as heat and apcr.

If the fuse of the shell is activated after a penetration, it shouldn't matter how many more plates there are after that, the shell won't pen if there's enough space for the shell to detonate
I've been a fan of adding NERA to my own tanks using Applique armor (using a turret or shaving off a plate somehow made my tank less protected as somehow the penetrated shell would still damage modules and kill the crew) and i made a series of tanks using applique armor as NERA plates, i am interested to see how the alpha ends of up with. i like to make MBTs with NERA arrays for fun.

The new-ish update with "unmanned" addon components you can sculpt might make spaced and even composite armor doable now. I used to make shitty composite armor with the riveted panels after they actually gave them an armor value. I'd layer a shit ton of them spaced slightly apart to create a shitty sort of NERA. Also I dont think they considered the idea that someone would build an entire firing range on the outside of their tank and put a fuel tank there which is probably why it killed you. The fuel tanks simply damage everything once they catch fire with no respect for its location. Tbh this should be fixed tho because some tanks did in fact use external fuel tanks so if they caught fire it wouldn't go inside the tank. Such ss the Leopard 2, Object 279, M1 Abrams, etc.
The old external fuel tanks would also eat all shells so I’m guessing this will be fixed soon. Even in the base version of the game this happens unless you use APHE. I made a vehicle with an outward layer of 5mm armor and it would take hundreds of AP rounds before going down, but if hit once with APHE that penetrated it would die.
Sprocket multiplayer and with 80s and 90s weaponry would PEE SHIT AND CRAP over warthunder. It would be a neat thing that I used to be a part of in Garry's mod it was called ACF you could build your own armored vehicle and fight but garry's mod engine often limited then umber of those vehicles around as well as the player's building skill who at the beginning mostly had welded shit
In your Steam Library game menu, right click on Sprocket and open "Properties." In the Properties > Betas tab, opt into the experimental branch and the game will automatically update to the experimental branch. Remember to back up your blueprints.
buddy the gun was penetrating 160mm it was just producing spalling, but it looked like it didnt penetrate because the spalling started at the beginning of the 160mm plate rather than the end as it should, so the holes on the other side had marks from the spalling rather than just the hole of the shell. Hope this helps
I don't think this is exactly the case, because the 160mm gun was unable to penetrate the 150mm, 130mm, and 100mm plates afterwards. If it was, then the game has some incredibly strange issues going on...

I don't think testing armor is really possible yet, the values are all wrong and just weird. I've had gigantic 250mm shells not penetrate/damage 10mms of armor

That’s due to bugs with how the cannon performance is calculated. I ran into this bug at first, but was able to fix it in the video. The gun I used in later parts of testing was specifically picked because its expected performance matched its actual performance.
@@thewonderwaffleofficial my biggest peeve honestly is the tracks, the roadwheels will disappear randomly and u have to reload the vehicle, sprockets and running wheels will go way past the tracks and when u move them back not catch the tracks, its nuts, makes it so frustrating when it used to be just fine

My plan was to take the hull and give it an Italian turret next. I’ll take that idea for my Freeform video though.
So far, drive shafts do not take damage, so it might be the reason they eat all shells.
As for spaced armor plating, well, it is really weird...
