    • @chrishett99
      @chrishett99 5 років тому +46

      They knew the entire time what the issue was, or at least what caused it. Admitting the motorcycle accident forces the Sixers to void his contract, (e.g. Jay Williams) and in-turn give up on the investment. Also, it basically is saying, "hey, Boston, you guys won that trade"

    • @llamasalpacas1

      Considering most of not all of this seems mental I don’t see why anyone should blame the medical staff. If people are not being fully honest with them and seeing other medical professionals on the side how can you expect them to magically fix him?

      @@chrishett99 The motorcycle accident was fake news. The truth is stranger and that's simply Fultz really did/does have TOS and it takes forever to heal, and also it the type of injury that isn't checked for until like the 3rd opinions because it's hard to diagnose.

  • @chrishett99

    The saddest part of this saga, is his mental health. He lived in fear of having his contract voided after the motorcycle accident. The fear caused anxiety, and the injury brought on depression. As a Sixer fan, who has lived here for 38yrs, I really hope the kid recovers mentally and physically.

    • @chrishett99
      @chrishett99 5 років тому +38

      The depression is what led his mother to have cameras installed inside his home. She was scared he may hurt himself. That also takes a mental toll on someone. I really, really hope he is seeing a psychologist, vs just a sports psychologist who mainly works on visualization with players. He needs psychotherapy, which should be a trauma-informed base of therapy instead of prolonged exposure therapy. (I do this for a living)

    You didn't mention the thoracic outlet syndrome diagnosis, his mom's video cameras, the relationship between Fultz's trainer and his mom, and the workout which reportedly put Boston off him before the draft.
    Also the Sixers never had a shot at Jayson Tatum in that draft because they would have had to lie about who they were drafting to Boston to trade up to take Tatum. They would have ended up with Josh Jackson at number three if they didn't trade up. Boston was willing to take Tatum at number one if they had to.
    For me, the most difficult part is that Markelle Fultz and his camp have never been honest or open about what happened. He is too young and immature to speak honestly about what happened, and his people are too invested to do so.

    • @tonyrame7548
      @tonyrame7548 5 років тому +9

      I didn't like anyone at the top of the draft besides Fox or Smith. It was gonna be one of those guys since the sixers still did not know if Ben Simmons could be a full time PG. Fox is looking like the best player from that draft since he is a 2 way player.

    • @SeanCarpenter518
      @SeanCarpenter518 5 років тому +54

      Shacari Sperley 1. After he left the team in Nov 18, Fultz was diagnosed with cardiothoracic outlet syndrome which is a nerve damage condition usually seen in baseball pitchers. This makes raising your arm above shoulder very painful but it also hard to diagnose. Giving the timing and Fultz’s doctor shopping, it could have easily been a made up diagnosis to save face.
      2. Fultz’s has a very strange relationship with his family , there was a story that his mom had video cameras in Fultz’s home to keep an eye on him. Just very strange in combination with the mental “yips” theory and Fultz general demeanor.
      3. Fultz’s mom was dating Fultz trainer, who was almost like a father figure to Markelle. He was the guy who helped Fultz rise from unknown guy to #1 pick. Over the summer after being drafted, the trainer convinced Fultz to alter his shot. Whether this was due to unknown injury, or the trainer attempting to build his own brand as “trainer to the stars”, the lack of success clearly hurt Fultz’s confidence and things spiraled downward.
      4. Fultz did not impress in workouts for many teams despite being the “consensus” number one. I’m not sure why this is surprising as I mentioned Fultz came out of nowhere to be the #1 guy, and put up numbers on a terrible Washington team.

      2nd: Ball: Yes and no. The fit with Simmons is weird especially without having a jumpshot but a good defender and could even slide to SG if needed
      3rd: Tatum, Yes. Duh.
      4th: Jackson. Yes. Athletic raw wing with scoring potential and good defense would be great off the bench
      5th: Fox, Yes and no. Yet again similar to Lonzo but can't guard 2s. Wouldn't be a great fit but it would still work better than Fultz did
      6th: Isaac. Yes. Same vein as Jackson. Amazing length and could even play some minutes at the 5 if need be
      7: Markkanen, Yes. Duh.
      8: Ntilikina: Maybe. In a position of need at the 2, but can't play off the ball and can't shoot at all. Good defender but overall a negative. Bench option for 15 a game at best on the 76ers
      9: DSJ: Yeah why not, athletic with some life of a jumper but not close to where it needs to be. Yet again a weird fit for spacing but would be good off the bench
      10: Collins: Yes. I love this fit, perfect 4 to go next to Embiid, low usage, good defender, rebounder, and shows life as a 3PT shooter.
      So yeah basically every top 10 pick, you could easily say the whole lottery with Monk, Kennard, Mitchell and Bam too

While he was talking about the Celtics long history of draft success, he mentioned that they had identified Fultz's jumper as broke long before the draft. • @kingsleyndam
      @kingsleyndam 5 років тому

      @@mildyproductive9726 that might be the case too. But whatever it is, his shot and confidence in it completely evaporated after the summer league and even worse, his attitude throughout the entire ordeal has been even worse.

    • @mildyproductive9726
      @mildyproductive9726 5 років тому

      Yup. True to all that. But I think he probably didn't hide the accident from "all who mattered." If there was an accident, I bet he told his mother and his agent.
      And if he were right in the head, he would accept that he did what he had to... to take care of his mother, financially. He got paid. He would accept that he is not living up to his #1 draft status, because he knows he can't. Not today, maybe never. He would keep his head down and his mouth shut and just do the best he can to help his team and to hopefully have a job, somewhere, after his contract expires. This doctor shopping would be weird. You get a dozen doctors giving you a clean physical, then why go out of your way to come up with a diagnosis of a condition often caused by an injury when you are trying to hide an accident?
      Here's another theory. He's a kid from a broken home. He has stunted mental/emotional development. He doesn't have a guilty conscience. He has confidence issues. He never felt like he was worthy of #1 to begin with. The 76ers wanted him to walk onto a playoff ready team and take the 2 spot. To be a perimeter spot up shooter to open up the floor and drop some 3's. And he couldn't drop a 23 foot shot to save his life. Now, someone who is confident in his abilities don't care. He knows he is good enough, overall, even if he isn't a great shooter. Lonzo throws up air balls; he don't care. Reload. Do it again. Kobe Bryant will take a left handed turn around 3 at the buzzer for the damn game. Markelle is not that guy. No confidence. He doesn't feel good enough, and he is afraid other people will see that he not good enough. So he doesn't shoot, at all. His personal trainer slash mom's BF tells him his shot is not good enough. He believes it. Stepdad/trainer says he has to completely change his shot. He believes it. Markelle believes he is not good enough, but he believes he can be better. He can do what Lonzo ball can't. He can completely change his shot. He believes it cuz someone he trusts is saying it. Then he gets to the FT line in front of all those cameras and stepdad isn't there by his side. It's just him in front of the world. And he doesn't actually believe it; he never did. Believe in himself.
