The most amazing thing is that this wasnt a case of learning new habits, he was totally bought in as soon as he arrived. Like many I was skeptical that the "dunk guy" could be this teams Iguodala, you get a lot of bad habits being best scorer on bad team. But those 12 first games he played with Denver were better than what you could have dreamt of. He fit so well with what the team needed, with what Jokic expects of him you'd have sworn they played all year. The team ran so smoothly... And then Jamal got hurt and AGs on his new team in playoffs and the role he did so well in 12 games was now upgraded to replacing Jamal scoring. Then the following season no Jamal and MPJ so he is Jokic's #2. Finally this year both injured starters were back and Aaron got to go back to the role he played so well when he first arrived in Denver until the injury in GS. He was a great second to Jokic but now that he is in his best role he was setting personal records and even mentioned as possible Allstar. The style of the playoffs was made for his skills, his athleticism and his desire to do what the team needs to win. If that means only taking 6 shots and sometimes scoring 30pts, so be it. That was all in him and from the first game he played, you knew he was the one. That's what impressed me the most with him.
and don't forget that Denver went on an 8 game winning streak after trading for Aaron Gordon, before Jamal Murray's ACL injury- Players have said that that's when they first believed that they could win the championship. AG was the missing piece. But Jamal's ACL injury put the whole thing on hold. I think AG continued to get better in his new role during the intervening time.
I talked about it elsewhere. He arrived and clicked from the start better than you could have wished for. Unfortunately because of injuries over those playoffs and then the whole following season he had to play a different role and be 2nd to Jokic, he couldn't play like when he first arrived and blew us all away. Finally this year Jamal and MPJ are back and AG went back to what he did when he first arrived and set personal records and even talked about as Allstars this season. Ye. I would also love to play his role if i have his physical attributes. Guarding the opponent's best player and cut & dunk on the offense. Exactly how I play basketball, except I'm not nearly as big as he is.
He is a professional, whom had 5 or 6 different coaches his 5 or 6 first years in the league, and he finally arrived at a place and a system that focuses on everybody's strengths, instead or finding people that could only pkay defence and pass it to the star. I kept looking at the stat sheets of the whole team, the Denver Nuggets had the best team game in the whole NBA, you looked at the stat sheet and there were up to 7 players with 6 assists and 3 rebounds, everybody was playing for the collective success, the ball rotation was very dynamic and i loved that from Coach Malone, Jokic and Murray are the 2 most skilled on the team for sure, but as we saw in game 4 of the finals, Aaron Gordon can be the main scorer if the other 2 are compromised by the opposing defence, and he worked hard to be a good defender on the very same game.
I mean, to become stable you need to find your pieces and build your team around the main players. Like GSW took 5 years to built their team perfectly. Nuggets also took enough time to built their time.
'Who needs to be Caramel Antoine (my french version) when you can be a Nba Champion' CA was once a great pick went for good money to the Knicks and the Nuggets could get Jokić + Murray after all...he ended his career this year without a title - the Nuggets took it all...I love this team from the bottom of my heart 😂😂😂

Another huge thing he brought especially this year, was his leadership and big brother mentorship. Uncle Jeff pushed him to do more. He took CB0 under his wing and was a big factor in MPJ becoming a better defender and rebounder! It was beautiful to see
Aaron Gordon and Andrew Wiggins are the perfect 3rd/4th option you need for championship. Strong perimeter and interior defense, rebounding, good play finisher, and can create on occasions if asked. What a redemption for both of then
Yea, and since their best player, or THE best player on the team doesn’t care about being the best every game either, the Nuggets are so flexible when it comes to scoring. AG had a finals game cooking so they just kept on riding with it. People need to understand that basketball is a team sports and the team who utilizes the most out of their rosters usually win.

Gordon was always a great defender in Orlando he just only showed it when defending great players. He always made guys like LeBron and KD and kawhi and sometimes even Steph work alot harder when he played them
As a magic fan i'm glad he's found a role he can excel in. His shot selection made him look bad when in reality his jumper can be solid it just shouldn't be relied on to carry an offense as a number 1 option. He is best matching up against power forwards and creating mismatches with his speed to blow by defenders to finish at the rim and draw free throws, and that threat would have also led to some more open jumpshots too. Instead we tried to turn him into a wing and primary offensive option and played him at SF at times which didn't maximise his skillset and diminished his opportunities to make cuts and get to the rim where he's so good at finishing. I get that Orlando wanted more from him and didn't have the right personnel but happy he went to the perfect team to maximise his potential especially on offense, and he's always been a great on defense.
Some of the top picks understand that they're not good enough to be the #1 or #2 scorer on a good team, especially by their 4th or 5th season if they have been grinding in the off-season improving their game. Gordon understood this and they were able to send him to the perfect team.
Love that your back bro posted this before finished video but Gordon was alway a great versatile defender, magic were just weird with team construction, i remember at one point they was talking about how he’d be a great center, I wanted the sixers to draft him in 2014 but lakers kept their pick
The supporting cast are just absolutely amazing! They box Jokic? Goodluck with Murray outside. They counter that, well here comes AG, and the other cast! No one is a throw away and everyone contributes immensely.
I remember when he got to denver and he got asked about his shot selections and stuff and he said "These are some of the easiest shots I've taken in my career"
he was trying to be a shooting guard/creator on the magic. now he just plays like a smart basketball player who knows how to play with the best passer of the current era. Also, he uses his size now. (i am assuming you are going to say this in the video, im typing this 1.4mins in)
It's always beautiful to see a player that had more of a negative narrative to become a VERY important player to a championship team. We saw the same thing with Wiggins. He was the second best player on that Warriors team that won it all a year ago
You fail to mention how the nuggets struggle defensively when gordon was on foul trouble during the 1st half of game 5 finals. This just proves his value to the team.
The casuals as well as the NBA "analysts" who now said that the Nuggets had an easy road were the same smooth brains that said that the Nuggets were going to lose to either the Suns or the Lakers. smh.
The fault lies with a section of the fans as well (myself included). We kept waiting for him to have that "break-out season" and win the Most Improved Player trophy. "If only he improved his shooting numbers". Clearly, he's much more comfortable in this role that complements his skill set.
if not for devin booker going nuclear for two games, this might have been remembered as one of the more dominant championship runs. denver went 16-4. crazy.
@@Jon-xc3ns I repeat... he'll NEVER be an all star being the THIRD best player on the team. Period. End of story. The whole team would have to be injured before he gets selected as a replacement.
@@ThePrufessa And he isn't really good enough to be an all star. Murray can do literally everything and still isn't an all star to hard to see Gordon there.
"The Magic are such an embarrassment, man." I know that was a throwaway line, but I really don't think it's true anymore. They started off terribly last year, but after their first 25 games they were well over .500. They beat a bunch of good teams in there too. They've actually got a foundation and a direction now. Also, you said you didn't see Gordon being a good defender in Orlando? WTH are you talking about? That was literally the reason Denver traded for him. He'd become a very popular trade target on every NBA podcast precisely because of his defense.
Say what you want about the Magic but the magic are not entirely to blame. Gordon WANTED to be the main guy he just wasn’t capable of it or able to. To say his shortcoming is completely on the magic is completely false. Yes they utilized him incorrectly but this is because that is the role HE wanted for himself
I came here to say this but it’s pointless. Only us Orlando fans know the truth, they wanted him to be this guy but he went to Kobe camp cuz he wanted to be the main guy. When we traded him we traded him to the best situation based on the outlook of the player the organization thought he could succeed in. It’s pointless to have these conversations with other fans cuz in reality they weren’t there, they don’t know.
@@a55krkgaming43 Gordon simply can't be the main player to built your team around. Playmaking and being versatile is very essential to be in that role. Happy that Gordon got a perfect team though.
Orlando had a top 10 defense during their 2 years playoff runs wen ag was there and he was the main reason 4 it why they kept getting bounced in the 1st round was their offense but his defense was always there

Bro your back lets gooo
My man mdj. Welcome back man
Good breakdown bro bro 💪💪💯
Love that your back bro posted this before finished video but Gordon was alway a great versatile defender, magic were just weird with team construction, i remember at one point they was talking about how he’d be a great center, I wanted the sixers to draft him in 2014 but lakers kept their pick
MDJ, you bringing me nostalgia being back on UA-cam man!! Welcome back!
Thanks
The supporting cast are just absolutely amazing! They box Jokic? Goodluck with Murray outside. They counter that, well here comes AG, and the other cast! No one is a throw away and everyone contributes immensely.
So good to have you back in nba yt
All true!!! Great video!!
He stay cooking Westbrook 😭
MDJ always has and always been the best NBA youtuber, glad to see you back. Honestly.
I remember when he got to denver and he got asked about his shot selections and stuff and he said "These are some of the easiest shots I've taken in my career"
I was about to say I wasn’t getting your videos in my sub box but I just noticed you took a long break. Welcome back!
MDJ comin outta retirement like MJ with these great vids recently!
Great video and i love the comparison to chris bosh and klove, shifting roles is very hard and those guys did it and so did aaron gordon
Fk bro so good to hear your breakdowns again.
love your channel . when you said about jokic hand to eye coordination it blew my mind
he was trying to be a shooting guard/creator on the magic. now he just plays like a smart basketball player who knows how to play with the best passer of the current era. Also, he uses his size now. (i am assuming you are going to say this in the video, im typing this 1.4mins in)
Bro your back It been so long 😁Welcome back
It's always beautiful to see a player that had more of a negative narrative to become a VERY important player to a championship team. We saw the same thing with Wiggins. He was the second best player on that Warriors team that won it all a year ago
"Do I have a choice" I'm dying. Great, great video, mate.
Welcome back
man im so happy mdj is uploading again
Great video I sub
Yooooo
Someone is back on UA-cam!
glad mdj is back
This. 1000 percent this. Gordon is a great role player. Every point in this video was spot on.
Guess who’s back back again
He's a more talented version of Draymond Green but was never seen that way until now.
if not for devin booker going nuclear for two games, this might have been remembered as one of the more dominant championship runs. denver went 16-4. crazy.
Glad your back
I remember your Jonathan Isaac take…
Great Journey
Great thumbnail!!!
I LOVE AG!
It’s great to see your handsome face again mdj!
He guard Lebron, Kat, and Jimmy Butler which is why he Nuggets won a championship this year.
He was great all season.
I hope he gets to be an allstar at some point in his career in denver and selected to an all nba defense team, dude is so talented
He's not gonna get on an all star team being the third best player on the team.
@@ThePrufessa injuries are a thing, so maybe he can sneak in as a replacement, but the west is so talented that it's going to be hard for sure
Bruh I did not know you were back
Loved the Rodney Hood shoutout😂 I know MDJ was a fan back in the day
Rodney hood was NICE
I'm currently re-watching all finals games just because I want to see how good defensive player he really is. And I have to say that I'm impressed.
The last quote just became my motto
Orlando had a top 10 defense during their 2 years playoff runs wen ag was there and he was the main reason 4 it why they kept getting bounced in the 1st round was their offense but his defense was always there
Damn this made me like him even more..
