A dream to see the R100S in this video. I had one from 1981 to 1984. Screwed it on every winter. The difference was aluminum wheels, no spokes. And I had disc brakes in the back. She was red too. At that time I had installed an electronic ignition, a larger oil pan, footrests set back, M handlebars, triple clamp and and and. Those were nostalgic feelings seeing the video. thanks for that. I drove with that bike to the tt course isle of man, north cap, French, Andorra Spain. 40000km in tree years. Now after 38 Years i make a comeback with a Royal Enfield interceptor 650. Such a beauty bike. Greets from germany
hello from France !! I just discovered this vid, and... wahouuuu !! very good job, and well done, with plenty humorous ( lunch had to be good ?!? And this poor died hornet !!!...lol) of course, I'm keen on the R 100 S, and I'm looking for one to purchase, in good condition, but it seems to be difficult to find one, here ! ( What a pytha, you're not in my neighbourhood, i'LL very happy that you realize the maintenance, and that you help me, to find a bike ..!) so, I 'll watch your other vid V ride safe, ✌
Cool bike, and great video. But do your self a huge favor and get some Copper Anti seize. Lay it on thick. Especially on all muffler and pipe joints. Most importantly, on the threads of the head where the pipe flange threads onto the head. It should be reapplied annually.
WOW!!! what a beautiful helpful to understand how hard is to care and the skill you need about your bike...thank you !! in your opinion a job like your on a customer who wants to refresh hos bike how much could you charge? thank you and compliments for your highly professional skill and the result you got! ciao from Italy
Hey, thanks for your really nice comment. It depends how many hours you spend. On this project it was roughly 40 hours with a lot of research for parts and so on. I don't know what bike mechanics usually charge per hour.
Hey, great to read. It's so much fun to do a restoration. Roughly it was engine rebuild 2000€, parts sand blasted and coated 300€, paint 600€, all small parts like bearings etc. 1500€ But of course this varies a lot according to which people you know and where you live.
@@bikedogtor1663 from what i saw it looked pretty good on yours, better than what i saw on r1100/r1150 models. it occurs under the triple tree, behind he fairing / head light. Maybe the plating is ticker on the old airheads. I think it's best everyone should pass a oily rag every 14 days or so, to prevent rust / pitting, because they are kinda expensive to replace, there are company that can re-chrome them.
No copper grease on the exhaust flanges/threads?! I'm sure you did eventually, but just a bit excited to get it put together on camera... Thanks for showing the process. That's great work and a really fabulous result! 👍
👍👍 Thanks for the upload; going from '83 R80RT to R100 "S": R80 Heads cut for larger bore ("squish zone"/compression boost + Dual Plugs)... taller 5th gear (after tranny rebuild). Also original Red/Gold metallic. Re: "S"... staying with original cam and rear drum (no rear disk conversion) Questions: 4 gauges? (oil pressure? sending unit?) who matched the original color? (what paint was used? - Brand/color code?) some previous attempts ended up with "pink-ish" tint... yuk! Original BMW color code NLA(?) Theory: R100 jugs with R80 heads adds a touch of mid-band "grunt" - of course, carbs re-jetted. Still toying with idea of electronic speedo (with wired hall sending unit, at tranny) finding correct size speedo for original appearance... +500 bones?? dunno, yet... hmmm. Spoked wheels also a tasty addition... in lieu of Alu "snowflakes".

I really enjoy your videos of rebuilding old BMW motorcycles. I have been a subscriber for some time but always enjoy your content.
So great to see that bike being ridden. Thank you for saving it! Enjoyed the whole series!
Thank you for your nice words. This bike will do many kilometers
Un trabajo impecable en una motocicleta hermosa ¡felicidades!
Just beautiful, and inspiring!👍🏻
Best motorcycles ever made. BMW 'airheads'.

@@bikedogtor1663 thank you!! some of them also 100 euro...if official dealers, normally 60 euro per hour
Nice work! Always good to see these fixed up.
Thank you.
You inspired me to start looking for one of these bikes. Roughly how much is a restoration like you did? Very impressive work a new a joy to watch.

Excellent travail, tu peux être très fier de ta bmw ! Amitiés d’Alsace d’un ural rétro
Same color as my 1978 100/7. Was a good bike.
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful
Is that bike beautiful!! I want one.
Wow Man , what a excellent work, the Legend is reborn:)
Thank you :-)
Very interested in how you rebuilt the forks, mine bottom out terribly
Thank you, mine does the same. I may change the springs to stiffer ones
Was the chrome on the pipes of the fore fork so good?
It was good enough

Thank you! I used graphit powder on those threads.
did you use locktide for assembling the front fork?
No
Love it! Nice restoration. I always wanted one of those.
Thank you. It's not for sale 😉

Thanks. Gauges are clock, oil pressure, oil temp and voltage. Color was measured by the painter (with some magic machine) and mixed accordingly.
I'm glad to see you didn't use one of those forged aluminum upper triple tree things, they too stiff.
Absolutely not. Fix the flex. One of the best upgrades.

What a great video brilliant 👍
Thank you
Nice job! Used your fork- and choke videos for my own rebuild :)
Thank you 😊
very very very nice !
NEVER heat a bearing like that. You have annealed the rollers, they will last 20 minutes and then gall.
You sure? They get soft?
@@bikedogtor1663 Of course. You can safely heat them up to about 200 degrees, but any colours and it's too late.
I was thinking that it went on way too easy 😅 I used to use set it on top of a 100 watt bulb for 1/2 an hour.
You should put the bearing in an oil bath ad heat the oil on a stove.
Nice work, mate. The Toecutter would approve. :)
do you sell bikes as well?
I usually sell the bikes I rebuilt
@@bikedogtor1663 do you have an email?
Nice job done, where did you get the bikini fairing?. Thanks
It's the one originally from the bike
