Thanks for the comps. Only critique I have is that I wish you'd used all the same stamp/ink combo as u did comps. Probably the "techie" in me as I looked for true apples to apples & oranges to oranges. (Greg will probably know what I'm talking about. 😊

I agree with Jane. Please compare apples to apples. Switching to distress oxide had me yelling, no, no, no! Distress oxides have a thicker paint like quality unlike regular distress inks. You could have shown other inks separately at the end. That is the science teacher in me coming out.

My question is can the brushes be used with archival inks?

    • @audregaer3281

I have used brushes purchased on Amazon with Archival inks. I clean brushes between colors and ink types by wiping them on a damp shammy (from an auto supply department) then dry by wiping on a piece of paper towel.

I've had a set of the oval make up brushes for almost a year and was using them when the Picket Fence brand brushes first came out. I couldn't believe the cost of the Picket Fence brushes! For all intents and purposes, they are exactly the same as the make up brushes that I have. Thanks for doing the comparisons. My only suggestion would be to do all of the comparisons with the same ink and not switching from Distress Ink, to Distress Oxide Inks, to other brands. Just pick one and use it with all of the brushes. Thanks for the video!

Thank you for such a fair & honest comparison & review! While I am all for supporting smaller companies, I just can't afford to spend mega-bucks on what is likely the same product as a MUCH cheaper alternative. I would rather save my $$$ for stamps, stencils, inks, dies, etc. I personally don't see the point in duplicating products & then charging more. I think it just makes more sense to make more unique--and lower price-point--items. Just my two-cents worth! Anyway, thanks again, and have a wonderful day! :)

  • @vamps_rock

Thanks for the demo. For me, the choice not to purchase some of these premium-priced products is nothing to do with affordability, but everything to do with how overpriced they are for what they are. Whilst I also prefer to support smaller companies, I simply refuse to do when the cost of their product far outweighs its value and this is the case here with Picket Fence, especially as IMO having so many different sizes is detrimental rather than a positive point. I would much prefer just one or two sizes, but that is purely personal.
Whilst I also appreciate that most if not all of the lower cost items are probably produced in sweatshop-type environments, if the 'premium' brands were at a more reasonable price perhaps so many others wouldn't bother to make their own versions that appeal to more cost-conscious buyers. I just hope that in the near future we don't hear cries of patents and suing competitors as we did with a certain other small company.

I purchased the USpicy ones from Amazon months ago when I first heard about the Picket Fence craze with all my youtube crafters. I went and checked out the price of them, OMG, I couldn't believe my eyes, I thought it might have been a typo. Those brushes are outrageously expensive. So I did some searching read reviews and picked up the 10 pc USpicy ones for 13.00 in the black gift box. They are wonderful brushes, very soft and flexible and easy to clean. The difference between these and the Picket Fence ones must be maybe the Picket Fence ones have better handles on them, or maybe will hold up longer, I don't know. However the set I have does exactly the same from all the video's I watch on them of the Picket Fence all the professional youtube crafters are using. I do notice though some of the professional crafters, not Alexandria, but lots of others, no names mentioned, are really pushing them. Well I can barely afford crafting at all. Luckily I got most of my stuff before going on disability, or my craft room would be nearly empty. Even if I were still working I could no afford those Picket Fence brushes.

Thanks for showing these. The difference could be in longevity - who knows. Good to know the function is the same though. Tailored Expressions just came out with a set - all the same size head but one handle colour for every colour in the rainbow PLUS a stand. So you can dedicate a brush for each colour grouping. Still in the price range of picket fence, but having all the brushes as the most popular size, coloured handles and a stand totally put them a leg up in my books. Oh, and the bristles are white, so very easy to see what colour you used (and pretty sitting on your desk).

I have them and love them. Definitely a bonus having 10 brushes in the complete color range including, 1 grey and 1 brown. I also LOVE the 'lazy susan' holder that you can purchase separately. For those that are interested in purchasing the holder, I highly recommend watching the short tutorial on how to put it together first on TE YT Channel. They are fairly easy to put together but if you apply a lot of force to snap the cross pieces together, they could snap which is why I advise watching the video first.

I've a tight crafting budget, but I still bought the Picket Fence brushes. Why ? From what I know, they were the first to have the idea to use these brushes for crafting, at least it's on their website that I saw them firstly. Then I prefer, like you, to support a small companies. They are doing a fabulous work to offer us fabulous dies and stamps. Amazon is just making money on us and the working conditions are terrible in their warehouses.

I was intrigued by the Picket Fences brushes, but no way would I ever buy them, the price point is ridiculous. Esp. once exchange rate, shipping to Canada, and possible customs were factored in the set came out to like $80 CDN. Someone I follow on Instagram was using a very pretty rainbow metallic set of oval makeup brushes that look almost identical to the PF ones for her ink blending and I liked her results. So I found the Canadian site that sold them and got a set of 10 for like $30 CDN with free shipping. Very happy with them so far and bonus is they're super pretty to look at lol.

For a really deep clean a silicone rubber brush cleaner and dish soap and water or make up brush cleaner are really great. It’s amazing how much colour goes deep into the brush. It doesn’t affect the blending because the colour doesn’t come out once you do a quick wipe on a cloth or scrap paper but the colour does build up in the brush.
