  • We all know the iconic synth line, but I had never really given this song a proper listen all the way through until I decided to do this cover. I loved the idea of slowing the verses waaay down and letting each line breathe, while keeping the upbeat pace of the prechorus intact. I love the layers that pop in and out, and I'm really digging my new shooting methods that allow me to do longer takes with video. Hope you enjoy!

Well, at the very least, no matter how many times you listen to this you won’t have to worry about waking up pregnant in the morning!!! So, there’s always that. 😂😂😂
And, I kinda felt like it was missing it’s balls as well, upon the first listen or two, but I think it’s just that we’ve only ever heard Van Halen do Jump and so, naturally, anything that’s less than the normal “over the top” Van Halen is going to sound like it’s lacking until we get used to it. After I listened to it a couple times the more i started digging it. I’ll admit, I was liking it the very first time I listened to it and it just grew on me the more I listened. You may want to give that a try if you’re not just completely turned off by the whole idea of a slowed down, alt-rock/indie pop version of this song. I mean, you may be a hardcore “don’t fuck with anything because it’s already perfect” Van Halen fan, I don’t know, but if you are then I totally understand your sentiment and completely get exactly where you’re coming from and I respect that. However, I, myself, am a Van Halen/Hagar fan, but I am not their biggest, #1 super fan either and even if I were I don’t know that this rendition would bother me. With that being said, Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Eagles are my #1 and #2 favorite bands of all-time. And NOT in that order… or at least not, in that order, everyday, as they tend to swap spots just solely depending on my mood the day you ask me. Yes, I know that sounds weird, but I’m just torn between the two!!! Also, it really just doesn’t bother me, whatsoever, any time I hear covers of either of their songs. Actually, I usually thoroughly enjoy anytime I here covers of their songs, preferably covers of some of their lesser-known and/or less popular songs that didn’t get as much air time on the radio. I especially enjoy hearing covers of their songs that NEVER received ANY air time on the radio, at all!!! So, that probably goes without saying that I really like it when bands do covers of other band’s lesser-known and well-known songs. But, at the end of the day, I know that everyone is entitled to have and/or make their very own thoughts and opinion, which everyone should be, whether it’s good or bad!!! Now, even though we’re all entitled to have/make our very own thoughts and opinions, we should probably take into consideration that it’s NOT always in our best interest, nor the best decision, to reveal our opinions, to the masses, without thorough examination, just to damn make sure that it’s an opinion that #1 - you want to be known for, more than likely forever and #2 - it’s an opinion that you will, most likely, be scrutinized for, over and over again, after presenting it to the masses!!! Otherwise, it’s probably within your best interest, to just keep it to yourself!!! Folks have got to remember that it’s 2024 and cameras are EVERYWHERE!!! It almost seems, as if, nobody can get away with anything, nowadays, because there’s this thing called the internet and everybody has a phone with a camera and they love to film and post the videos to the internet!!! Nobody can do anything, or so it would appear, without somebody recording it. And because of that reason, just about any and everything that someone post’s and/or adds online can usually be brought back to light, at anytime, even if you delete it!!! People tend to forget that, sometimes, it can be very difficult to get away from stuff that you’ve posted online and/or stuff that is somehow attached to your online presence and/or stuff that”s related to you. BUT, with all of that being said (and believe me when I say… I know it was way too much!!! 🤣🤣🤣) I have learned, throughout my 46 years of existence on this big ass round rock that we call earth, that OPINIONS are VERY MUCH just like an ASSHOLE… EVERYBODY HAS ONE… AND MORE THAN LIKELY, THAT SON OF A BITCH FUCKING STINKS!!!
Again, I am very sorry for the long comment!!!
To some, it would appear as if I got off on some kind of tangent and/or rant and just went to rambling.
However, I knew exactly where I was, what I was doing, where I was going and I knew exactly what it was that I wanted to say!!!
And, like most of time, I just had a whole lot to say.
So, again, just as I said a second ago, for the long comment, I sincerely apologize!!!
In closing, I hope you and yours have a great weekend, wherever you may be at the moment!!!
      ✌️❤️😀

I would walk to and from school with it, take it to basketball games on the bus and let all the kids who wanted to listen enjoy whatever cassettes we could bring with us - I took it everywhere. I did graduate to a two cassette player boombox in high school and made customized tapes for friends with spliced guitar solos (mostly) or weird and compatible parts of songs spliced together I knew my friends could appreciate (also made tapes that only had whole songs or albums🤪). Cover the top of that TDK blank with Scotch tape and press record…man, those were the days. And, spinning albums backwards just to drive the parents crazy. ❤🥁🎸🤘

I was in the Marines in the mid eighties. At the time I was a Sergeant. There was a woman Marine on top of a building on base having an episode. She was threatening to jump off of the building. Some of the younger Marines got a boom box and were playing the Van Halen song "Jump". They were yelling "Go Ahead and Jump!". I was disgusted by this, because I thoroughly knew these types. They are the types who think their tough, and go out in town and get drunk, look for whores, and start fights.
There are some good connotations to this song. Suppose a sky-diving video? But the overall energy of EVH was recklessness and rebellion. Their mantra was "Sex, Drugs, Rock-n-Roll". How did that play out?

I was 16 years old when 1984 dropped, and I stood in line at the record store the day it came out. Jump was my favorite track on the album. We tried to cover it in my band, but we weren't that good and I couldn't seem to get the lyric to fit to the meter no matter how many times I tried. I just want to say that I love this version, probably more than the original. I don't think we need any labels for this version. Stanley Kubrick might have said, "Sometimes the truth of the thing is not so much in the think of it, but in the feel of it." The meaning, the lyrics of this song, are reframed here in a way that makes it feel so much more honest, more genuine, and more vulnerable than I ever imagined it to be. I felt that. Thank you.

I was also 16. I don't think many of our fellow fans would have mentioned Kubrick, then or now. It was hard enough to get them to understand, "I'm home. You maniacs! You blew it up! Awww, damn you! Damn you all to hell!". Maybe that explains why I started gravitating to some of the more cerebral rock and metal?

I’m 35, I think you’ll find that music fans, my generation, the real ones, have a real respect for the past. Dig the Stanley Kubrick reference, some of the movie remakes got a little weird, but dig the foreshadowing. definitely Ray Bradberry level.

Wildest reimagine yet and I’m so into it. The bass solo, the pauses on the chorus, risky but so clean. Also giving me big Switchfoot vibes and since they were my favorite band for years that’s definitely a compliment.

I teach high school english and as a part of my poetry portfolio I always have the students rewrite the lyrics to a song. What I can also say is that I will be using this song compared to the original to demonstrate tone. This version of the song also uniquely has the ability of conveying the meaning of the lyrics.A lot better. I'm fifty one years old and have heard the original song for decades, and never really thought that deeply about the meaning of the lyrics since I listened to this version and both my girlfriend and I love it.

The lyrics to this song always had this playful energy, just trying to get someone to get up and dance. I feel like your interpretation actually tells the story, that you're giving weight to the other person's troubles and giving inspiration. Musically, love the use of space/layering with the guitar (perfect amount of OD), but your bass line just keeps tugging the entire song along. Love it!

1 A pop-punk version version of a smashing pumpkins song. The song “today” would be really interesting.
2 A slow country version of Ah-ha “take on me”
