      My first car ever. Im 19 yo, and learn as mechanic. This car 28 years old now and still better Than the younger ones and any other cars, I mean in 1993 this technological developments was so New and immature. BUT still works as New...
      I love it!!!

    Seeing the old huge tank Red diagnostic machine brings back so many memories as a Ford motor apprentice. Seen it for the 1st time at a course. Guy was adjusting ford transit base pump idle speed via the Red D machine.
    Knew then cars and electronics will change for next 12 years until Snap On come up with a decent code reader.
    The back street garages took a hit then for years. End of an era with Crypton Tuners where single point injection came in.

    Fantastic,I was an apprentice at Fords when the Mk1 came out and became very fond of it over the years ,the adaptive damping was absolutely superb but an expensive option so you didn’t see it that much ,what I’d do to find a mint turbo diesel ghia ,great video ,happy memories 😊👍

      Hi, I own a 1993 turbodiesel Ghia with air conditioning, ABS and two airbags. She is not mint, since she has 300,000 km but she works very good and I drive it on a daily basis. The car was bought new from my father and then passed to me some years later. The only car I have ever had, I really love it

    • @alancobbin1310
      @alancobbin1310 3 роки тому +1

      Eugenio Di Gioia oh wow that’s awesome ,air conditioning ,ABS and passenger airbag would of been factory options also ,that is rare to hear of an early turbo diesel ghia with A/C as I only saw one new we sold all the rest were mainly LX and GLX models which sales reps had and majority of the public at our depot brought the petrol zetecs ,ford UK also done a feature reps car a 1.8td lx which had done 500k miles on the same engine ,the car was just over 5 years old so back then it was a big deal ,happy memories 👍😉

      @@alancobbin1310 Hi, my Ghia TD was bought new in Italy, it was not uncommon at that time to buy a middle class sedan with a/c because of the hot summers there. I also have 4 electric windows and heated seats, the colour is tourmaline green. I do not have leather seats but velour seats. Have a nice day!

      Eugenio Di Gioia your ticking off my wish list lol I was a sucker for that green and Pepper red ,does it have both infrared red sensor in both front out door handles for remote locking ?aslong as all five belts are changed every 36k miles it’s serviced regular and repairs are not too expensive the engine should just keep going and going ,thanks for the messages you have made my day ,look after her 👍

      @@alancobbin1310 Yes, I have IR sensors in both front doors. The engine is simple and rough but also very reliable and has the charm of past times

    Worked as a body fitter when the Mk1 came out, thought it was a very nice motor, Ghia front bumpers were a pain to change, as the the dashboard!! Took me ages to change, air vents were always broken changed under warranty… had a SI up to a few years ago, shame it was rotten. Still have a Ghia parked up . Anyway nice video.👍

    Even the States got these - with some stylistic differences - as the Ford Contour and Mercury Mystique.

    21:07 common shortcut for mechanics dropping the subframe to change the clutch was to install them from the bottom. Alright unless the bolts got loose for some reason and dropped out with possibly catastrophic results hence the warning to put them in from the top

    • @alancobbin1310
      @alancobbin1310 3 роки тому +3

      energymc22 you can always tell if passenger lower arm has been replaced as silly idiots wouldn’t put the bolt in correctly like you said .

    • @energymc22
      @energymc22 3 роки тому +1

      @Henry Discipline because who can really guarantee that they are torqued up correctly (e.g faulty wrench), that there is no grease or other lubricant accidentally on the threads/mating surfaces or anything else that may make the bolt snap or work loose over time, including possible impact damage to the bottom of car

    Hi, I have Mondeo Mk 1 year 1993,2 litre dohc 5 door GLX, I have discovered that there are micro switches fitted on the front seats, which are connected to the seat belt stalks, as I have the airbag warning lamp on continuous when the ignition is on, are these switches in any way the problem? Hope someone out there can help?

  • @JJVernig

    14:54 They complied with the diesel to US standards emission standard. That's interesting, they were harsher than EU, and they never sold a Diesel in the US. Maybe the reason the 1.8 managed 'just' 90 HP. Seems a different approach then VW during the dieselgate.
    At least it was a well behaved diesel, rather good NVH for its time.

      Hi Tom, I have a Mk 1 Mondeo 2 litre dohc 5 door model, built in Germany and first registered in Britain March 1993, we are now in France, the car is OK, but need a drivers airbag module, as the warning lamp is on when the engine is running, not available as new anymore, but need one desperately! An old one would do, then can be reset, anyone out there that can help?

      Hello I am Dutch. I have a holiday home in Portugal. I bought a Mk1 1.8 td almost five years ago. Changed the engine last year. It needed two times a time belt. It is still reletively good giving. I still like to drive it during 6 months per year.
