I was a big Ford fan back in the 90s (grown up with Granadas and Escorts) and i´m amazed how much the british trim levels differed from the german ones. For example (excluding sportier versions) the Escort/Orion only featured CL (base), CLX, S and Ghia, the Fiesta was available as C, CLX and S. There was no Sierra Ghia Estate and we hadn´t got the "Megaspec" Granada Scorpio, as the model itself was already called Scorpio outside Britain ("Granada" had been dumped in 1985), we could get it as CL, GL, Ghia or finally as the 24V.
I think we just had more Granada specs than Germany, not higher. The Granada Scorpio was just a rebadged Scorpio Ghia and our Ghia was really just a Scorpio GL.
@@lewis72 At least in the 80s there was an 2.8/2.9 4x4 Estate, but as a sportier "XR", iirc...as far as i remember, there was no Ghia estate. And as far as i know, the Granada Scorpio was fully equiped with leather, aircon etc which were optional extras for the Ghia in Germany.
"Let's start with the base Fiesta featuring an incredibly anemic engine mated to an automatic that defines the word "slushbox". Its 0 - 60 performance can time eggs. This trim level is designed for employees you want to fire or encourage to leave. Examples include that hot college grad sleeping with your wife or the secretary you had an affair who is now blackmailing you."
I'm so pleased, when in 1992 I was 16 and did not have to own a car and just put up with whatever my Dad had. Usually fords, then Vauxhall and then Rover. Cars back then were just terrible, no really, seriously people they simply were. These days no car manufacture could get away with anything like what these manufacturers did with so many 'options' that were tiny. Now we worry about how big the infotainment screen is and can I use Apple Car Play...But expect safety and comfort from A/C and ABS, ESP etc as standard.
This to me was a funny time for ford,my old man had a k reg orian LX ex-Quicks demo and had so much trouble with it 3 years later we went to Citroen ,then Volvo and only in the last 3 years gone back to ford and the rs2000 model looked like 1.6 L with extra fog lamps on however the Sierra looked like it got better but i was still happy with my legendary 2.0 L GL Sierra you know the one,F395 OWC!
To me the original 1990 range of Escorts and Orions looked much neater and coherent than this revision a year later, although I suppose it was necessary to boost sales. The Sapphire GLS looks great though with the alloys, best looking Sierra there was I think.
Having driven all of that stuff back in the 90’s together with examples from the ranges of Rover, Vauxhall, VW, Renault etc, I thought Ford products had become very dated and mediocre, outclassed by their competitors. They were trading on their history and heavily discounted fleet sales. Things did change dramatically with the introduction of models like the Mondeo and Focus but the market was changing and customers were gravitating towards more premium brands, which were becoming more affordable.
@@lewis72 yes they were all absolutely dire barring the cossies, the dynamic revolution if you can call it that began with the gen 1 mondeo. 98 Focus was a game changer.
@@bensmithkent22 Gen 1 Mondeo just looked like a boring blob of a car. I remember a friend of mine getting a brand new one as a hire car within 2 weeks of its launch. Styling was just so painfully bland. It rode fairly well and had funky little lights to light up the interior door handles, something that has since gone, I think. I quite fancy a gen 1 Focus and a gen. 3 Mondeo for my car collection though.
Interesting to find out when the poverty spec Popular and Laser names were dropped. Re: the location of the electric window switches in the Fiesta - I owned a 1999 SEAT Ibiza with the switches in the console and I preferred the location there over than on the door like my current car. Works better for left handed people on RHD cars!
Nice Sierras but I was never a fan of Ford's ruched leather interiors...the seats just looked too soft and they never aged very well compared to other brands.
Tony really was the prototype Partridge
He's absolutely marvellous!
Those scorpio granadas still look fantastic now! The sierras pretty decent too
Tony Bastable was hilarious. Everything he says is brilliant.
Everything he says is driven by cash
We forget just how big corporate fleet sales were in the 90s with a battle Royal between Ford and Vauxhall.
Just me or did anyone else cringe when the fax machine was bashed on the boot paintwork?....
It was not in a hard case, and was gentle placed - still car is long since gone so matters not now

Hi - We do have some Ford German language content on our sister channel ROVR DE

Thanks for another great video. Love watching these ✌👍

Some very tasty sierras there, still look classy.
When I first met my wife in 1997 she had a little 1.1 Fiesta. It would hammer up and down the motorway all day every day - great little car
1991 & 1992 Favourite Years of my life
Colour-toned fuel filler cap ?
I'm in !!!
Full width wheel trim covers , where do I sign ?
Loved the nostalgia as I was 16 then
Sierra ghia and scorpio still smart
The build quality of those Granadas was top notch had a 2.9 Ghia x was a wonderful car although bit thirsty 😅
The delightful Pam Rhodes
I’m glad someone remembers her name. She was lovely.
@@adamlee3772 . yes, indeed.
Especially with all the Granada Scorpio’s / Sierra’s / Escorts / Orion’s / Mondeo’s & Transits / Fiesta’s
The Courier! Last one I saw in real life was an S-reg one with the Mark 4 front, still on the road as recently as 2018-2019
A very practical little van, sized to take a standard euro pallet.
Can't wait to rock up to my local Ford dealership and request a replacement Ford Cellular System handset and fax machine.

Get lost, todays cars are shit compared with these cars from the 1980s.

I do know a couple of last model escorts in my area both x reg.
Tony must have had to take a deep breath by saying positive things about a Mark V Escort. I had one and you could hear it rusting on a damp day.
11:55 is that chassis rail at the top of the screen, already rusting? 😂
Yes it is, omg. Those Couriers were rusting like craizy, maybe more than regular cars.
How can this be nearly 30 yrs ago
Wow, the Escort has a 2007 radio cassette!! That sounds SO futuristic!!
I wonder how many of these cars are still around.?

Why is the Escort van missing...?
The Sierra hatchback, very rare back in the day in the ROI. On bigger cars, saloons were preferred.
Bastable on 🔥 14:12
All that's missing is the Ford plug in shaver and blow dryer.
Heated Windscreen... still a luxury now
Yes this is true. Still a ford staple.
wasnt even born in 1991, my little G reg mk4 escort was still new, before all this "useless tech" tookover
Could you please upload the promotional film for the 1992/1993 model range?
90' FORD for ever💪💝
That’s the only time a transit of this era had sills and wheel arches give it two years and they were rotten
Back when Fieasta was NOT the handling benchmark in its segment...
The entire Ford range in 1992 was a bit shit.
Escort was a complete dog.
Sierra was almost 10 years old.
Granada was 7 years old.

Is it just me who really missis valour seats but I don't miss the old ford security tibby locks 👎
@ 11:25 Ford Korea Van...
And if HE does go for a 1.6 is the standout statement from this. Harmelss back then 😂
I want that fax machine
Power steering as standard big news 😂Brilliant wouldn't mind owning that cosworth now worth a few quid
“ driven byyy yooouuuuu..!” 😕 🚙
Make mine a Cosworth but with the portable FAX machine.
Why did't we in the US Get these cool Cars A fiesta Cargo Van Car? I would like one of those now for Van Life.

How the hell did Ford get a stereo from 2007?! It’s witchcraft!
