He’s so right! The Mondeo mk1 was the best car to drive in its class during this time. My parents had one and so it was the first car I drove constantly after getting my drivers license. It was so nimble, firmly, stabil and solid with a very direct steering. In addition it was very quiet. Sensational… my driving school car was a 1993 Vauxhall Cavalier MK3 which had no chance compared to the Mondeo. I still remember the moment I started Mondeos engine for the first time, first gear, release the clutch, acceleration, shifted into 2nd gear… Baaam! That was just WOW! The Ford drove and felt way better, another league, yeah… another world.
And to back it up, to this day Jackie can be seen emerging from his mansion in Dunsmore, close to the PM's weekend retreat Chequers. In his 1994 2.5 v6 mk1 manual Mondeo Si!!!!
My uncle had a Radiant Red 1994 Ghia 1.8td saloon. He used to change the belt himself every 40,000, oil every 5k and apart from a clutch, alternator and about 4 pairs of front bushes had no issues in 250,000 miles! Even the AC worked when he finally sold it.
My dad had one, a 94 estate 1.8 GLX. It was constantly broken down. He hated it, and for a 1.8 it was pretty weezy. Maybe it was a Friday afternoon car.
I didnt know they were using adaptive dampers on an early 90s ford? Thought that was only a modern day thing say in the last 10 years for average cars at least
its Jackie Stewart not Steward............can not believe how corny his presentation is he's working for ford so of course everything in the car is probably best in class. haha Thanks for uploading these
Better overal quality on the Primera, yes, but not by much. The Mondeo had decent reliability. And it drove like nothing else on the road in it´s class. The primera was behind in that regard. Mondeo was the best fwd sedan in the handling department in that time.
I had a Nissan Primera 2.0GT it was very unreliable ended up trading for a Focus 1.8 Zetec mk1. My Nissan Bluebird 1.6LX saloon T72 1989F was much better than the Primera.
My word this makes me feel old. I remember this video coming free with What Car. Don’t think I’ve ever known a mainstream car get such good press coverage as the original Mondeo did, it was wall to wall 5 stars and swept the board in every group test. First Ford ever to do that

+Derek Watson thanks for pointing out the typo, its been corrected now :)
Primera P10 was the best.
I always found the mk1 styling incredibly dull.
Primera was far better....better engine gearbox build reliability and drive

Most competitors were better and have always been.
