For me 1 song in worship daily, prayer, then reading the word of the true and living God. It has changed my life. Could you imagine going a couple days without food? It’s the same thing with the word of God, he is our sustenance our spiritual food we also shouldn’t go without time with the lord daily. Hope this encourages 1 person to pick up the word of God and dive in and may you be blessed because of it. May God watch over you all and protect every one of you from all things Evil.

Excellent Tim! I do all but 6 & 7. I don't know why, but i forget to pray! I wrote these steps down & starred #7. My plan will have to change some this year as hubby had a stroke and is coming home from rehab on Friday & he will need my help so if anyone wants to pray for me that would be awesome!
Praying for you and your husband. Something that may work for you since you will be doing extra is listening to the Bible. On days when I’m not feeling well I listen on YT. It’s easy to find the translation and chapters I’m interested in. Some people listen via podcasts but I’m not as used to them. I bet your husband would appreciate listening as well. What has worked *for me* is first to not put a time limit on it. When I first came to Christ I zipped through the Bible - twice in the first year, with an additional trip through the New Testament. But over time I've found that in order to get something out of it I have to slow down. It generally takes me, these days, about two years to go through once. It just takes me that long to scribble notes on the page, underline, circle, draw arrows, hunt up connected passageway - all the things that I used in studying before I ever came to the Bible, and have worked for me these going on 41 years. And second, I don't always read the genealogies and the details of the Mosaic Law. Yes those are part of Scripture, and I do read them every third or fourth time through. But they're so much harder to glean something out of, and I've learned that skipping them three out of four times doesn't hurt anything.
Just to add a couple of tips: 1. One tip I have for those who have never read through the entire Bible, especially brand new believers, is either to first read or to read alongside a good children's Bible. Like The Jesus Storybook (Sally Lloyd-Jones) or The Biggest Story: How the Snake Crusher Brings Us Back to the Garden (Kevin DeYoung). This will help give an overview of the entire Bible so you see how the whole thing fits together and what the main storyline of the Bible is all about. It is also easy yet inspirational to read a good children's Bible because I find it whets your appetite to read the actual Bible. 2. Another tip is that I'd distinguish between a reader's Bible vs. a study Bible. If reading to see the forest, then a reader's Bible is a huge help. If reading to see the trees (let alone the branches and leaves and roots), then a study Bible is a huge help. But don't mix or conflate these two types of Bibles together. Instead focus on one or the other depending on your goals, not both together at the same time, because it'll tend to be at cross purposes from ine another. Finally, for general reading, a reader's Bible is specifically designed to be aesthetically pleasing and conducive to a good reading experience, and there are reader's Bibles in multiple translations, so I'd really recommend a reader's Bible when, of course, reading the Bible.
Reader’s bible is a game changer for me. It’s much more of a relaxed contemplative time rather than be bothered by all of the things that help intense study.

It makes me wonder if one big reason (along with other reasons) why so many people spend so much time reading novels, romances, fantasy, biographies, history, and many other types of books more than the Bible is because most Bibles are formatted more like reference books, textbooks, encyclopedias, etc.

I picked a CSB for its prose and while part of me wishes it was more literal that feeling is quickly getting dwarfed by just living in the word knowing I’ll go into word/context study later. I need to learn the forest before investigating particular trees.
@@billy120745 Nice! How do you like the CSB so far? I've also been reading it. Here are my thoughts I wrote to someone else about it. 1. In general, I'm an ESV guy, but I've been reading through the CSB since so many people recommend it. I'm enjoying it, but I think I still prefer the ESV - at least so far, but I'm far from finishing the CSB in its entirety. However, the CSB might be a good secondary translation for me. As best as I can tell, the CSB seems like it's somewhere between the ESV and the NIV. 2. At least as I understand it, most scholars use 3 or 4 criteria to judge or assess translations in general: a. Accuracy. Overall, I think the CSB is more accurate than the NIV. In my opinion, the CSB is a lot better on the controversial gender issues than the NIV 2011 too. b. Clarity. The CSB and the NIV are both quite clear. But what I like about the CSB is that it escapes from the Tyndale-KJV tradition in many places, whereas the NIV is still somewhat indebted to the Tyndale-KJV tradition (as are many other of our translations, especially the ESV which in my view is the best heir to the Tyndale-KJV tradition today). However, if someone finds the phrases of the Tyndale-KJV tradition more familiar or even euphonic, then they may not like the CSB as much. c. Naturalness. The CSB is far more natural sounding than the ESV (the ESV often sounds like Yoda is speaking), though the CSB is more or less equal to the NIV in terms of naturalness. The CSB sounds more like English today in the USA, whereas the NIV sounds more like English a generation ago and the NIV is less American English and more "international" in its English. However, the CSB is more plainspoken in terms of literary style, even in sections where there is and should be a higher register (e.g. the prologue to Luke, Hebrews, poetic sections), which I think is a weakness of the CSB. The CSB is lacking in literary style. It's not bad, just not great. It doesn't really stand out, at least to my ears, whereas the ESV (thanks in large part to the Tyndale-KJV tradition) is stylistically beautiful in an understated way and as such quite memorable, which in turn is an aid in memorization. The best natural-sounding modern English translation is the NLT, but it is more loose in terms of faithfulness to the form and structure of the biblical languages. d. Audience appropriateness. The CSB is quite appropriate to most English speakers, those who speak English as a second language, young and old, and as such serves a wide audience. Of course, so are other translations like the NIV, and especially the NLT. The ESV isn't as easily understandable by as many different groups; the ESV usually requires a higher degree of facility with the English language.
@@pattube yeah I think you and I are of the same mind. I got the CSB to be a family bible, that was easy for me to read personally, and also to my kids because it is digestible. Sure the ESV is closer in linguistic terms to the original texts, but for my purposes of ease of reading and teaching I’d say it’s fine. Then when there are additional questions that warrant nuance you break out the ESV or start getting into Strongs, Greek, Latin, etc. Does it lack style, sure but it’s accessible which is huge. I think it’s all about what purpose you intend for a translation to serve and as far as that’s concerned in my case it’s well done so far.
While I love Tim's encouragement and suggestions, I will say that there are a couple of different things that have helped me in past years. First, if you are in a season or situation where listening is the best option, than do that! Its okay to listen to Scripture be read to you on your phone. I used this especially when my kids were babies and listening was something I could easily do while nursing, running errands, cooking, etc. Would I have liked to physically read the Scriptures? Yes. But it wasn't feasible at that point in my life. I still gained a lot from taking time to go through the Scripture. The second thing is to allow yourself to go through the Bible in a shorter or longer period. For me, I kept getting stuck. So I challenged myself to do a 90 day plan. That was amazing for me! It showed me that I could make it through all the hard parts. Was it a lot more time committed every day? Yes. But I did it via audio that year and listened to the Bible instead of music or anything else that would have been on. It wasn't a deep time through the Bible but it helped me see that I am capable of reading every page of God's Word (which I had previously failed at doing). Another thing that I would suggest is to NOT go back and try to catch up. Just keep going. If you miss a day, go to the next day the next opportunity you have. Yes, not missing a day is ideal but life happens. Instead of feeling guilty or trying to spend more time catching up, just pick up where you left off. Maybe another day you will have extra time and can read an extra day. Maybe you won't finish in exactly a year. But the important thing is to keep going and to really dive into God's Word. 90 days, 6 months, a year, 3 years...any amount of time it takes to really sit down with God's Word and go through it page by page is worth it. Remember that the goal is a RELATIONSHIP with the living God through His living Word. It is not about a competition or about being perfect. We are not perfect and never will be. God will meet you where you are if you just ask Him to. Be diligent and faithful to your relationship with Him and He will fill in your gaps of imperfection. May God's Word richly bless you this year and always!
My intention this year is to read the Entire Bible, but to journal alongside it: jotting down stand out verses, things I'm curious about, or just notes on what's going on! At the moment, I only have my old KJV gifted to me years ago, so I can't write directly in it. Good luck to all in their journey, and may 2024 be blessed for you!

@@billy120745 That's honestly a wonderful idea, and I do wish I could. Only problem is: it's pocket sized!! None of my notes would fit, haha. But, there is one note in there, in the front. I put it there to remind me that God loves us all. I'd struggled with faith for a long time, but that message brought me back to Him.
I loved the 2 year reading plan from the Bible you reviewed called the ESV Daily Reading Bible. Last year I got a Schuyler Bible for my birthday so I don't need a new Bible. I tried to find this plan online but didn't find it. I wish they would post it but I get why they don't.
If you struggle with finding time in the morning, I’m going to start listening to my selections on my drive to work, then read through them when I get home!

I think out of the numerous beyond count videos I’ve watched from you in three years, this is my favorite. I read the 1st time in 97-98 then 14x subsequently until around 2016. I’ve been meaning to start again. Your point 5 was the best but write in my premium? No way lol
I’ve used my Bible app to read the Bible chronological order before. It is hard when you get behind for sure. Plus, I love the physical Bible in my hand to read better. Last year I slowed down and decided to study the word. I’m over half way through the Bible. I’m wanting every page filled with notes. There has been so many times I’ve studied something and was like, I don’t remember reading that ever! I love it! I should finish that Bible some time this year. I got myself a Bible this year to just read too. Morning time is my study time. I’ve started just reading my Bible later in the evening also.
These are some great tips. I am 202 days into the Grant Horner reading plan and all your tips are directly applicable to the consistency my buddy and I have had along this journey.
Another thing I found true is find Bible translation the helps with the experience. I am reading The Amplified Bible Expanded Edition. It has kept my attention.
I like to read five chapters a day. New testament in the morning Old testament at night. I read Monday through Friday. Saturday and Sunday is reserved for catching up days in case I skipped a day or for rereads. Sometimes you run into a passage that you struggle with. For a while, I was struggling with the end of Genesis. Seems like the enemy didn't want me to get to Exodus. I do keep a journal separate. And use the HEAR method of note taking.
Your previous readthrough of the NRSV are some of the best read through videos on UA-cam. This year I'm going to read through a Thomas Nelson compact KJV center column reference bible... one that I found watching your review.
I thought this was right on. The key is doing it with other men. We have a group of about 30 men who start it and usually about 15 will actually finish it. I'll be sharing this video with the group and hopefully we'll get a higher success rate of men who stick with it. Thank you!

I started a 1 year plan back on November 10. I have read the Bible from beginning to end multiple times. This though is the first time I am doing it chronological order. Also I am doing this with a new translation, the CSB. I have not read or used the CSB. Through multiple UA-camrs I decided to give it a try. I bought a cheap copy of the CSB, thus far I like it. I am though in one of the most boring books Leviticus. Not looking forward to Numbers either.
In 2023 I read the Bible chronologically with the Bible recap. I enjoyed Tara Leigh’s recap and often went back if I missed things she mentioned. By the end of the year it was a habit!
My best tip for reading the Bible in a year is that if you skip a day for whatever reason, don’t go back to the days you missed just continue reading from where you’re supposed to be
I think there are different approaches for different personalities too. I'm not the kind of person who can just read 3-4 chapters every day. It just doesn't work like that for me. I usually end up reading 25 chapters and then get sidetracked. A week later, I'll read another big chunk. But I've learned that there's nothing wrong with that approach. It works for me (and probably others who have ADHD).

Well, I am committed to reading the Bible every year- because of that, if I skip a day, I don’t sweat it, because I know I’ll catch it next year. After 20 or 30 years, I know it pretty well, but even more importantly, I have the big picture- and I know the Author even better. Because of the Holy Spirit making it come alive, it always speaks to me. Thanks for your work, it’s obvious it’s a labor of Love!
This is fantastic information! Step 5 really hit me....I read through the bible for the first time and felt accomplished. After so many years of failing lol But this year, I'm going 'wide margin' and engaging through the experience. Now I just need to find the right wide margin lololol My hopes, one day is for Thomas Nelson to create a wide margin KJV in the premier collection. Right now, I'm going to be using the Sovereign.
Looking forward to this! I'm currently reading straight through an NKJV with brief book introductions and center column references. On track to finish the second half of January. I have an NLT lined up to read through next. It doesn't have book introductions or cross references, just translation and textual footnotes. Looking forward to the experience of reading through a simpler translation with minimal distractions. I'm hoping it will make some parts of the bible I found difficult in the NKJV (Job and some of the prophets) a little easier to understand. Keen to make it more meaningful as well 😃

I have two favorite translations. The NLT is the Bible I use for reading through in a year because it makes it a little more simpler to read. And my other favorite is the NKJV that I often compare to the NLT and find that I'm getting the exact same message which I'm happy about.

If you’re catholic, I highly, highly recommend going through “a bible in a year” by ascension presents and Fr Mike Schmitz. It’s an already planned out course that has a podcast that goes along with it to make things easier to understand with a father’s commentary.
This will be my year's plan to read my Bible in a year, after I only made it to June. I found that as the year progressed I was not happy with the plan or Bible translation. So I am going back to my Day by Day Chronological Bible in the CSB translation. That plan and translation worked very well for me last time, and I know it will again. In addition I am adding 3 key parts to my reading plan: understanding the origin of the passage, content of the passage, and the meaning of the passage by asking the who, what, why, when, where and how questions. I am excited to see how this will advance my progress in the Bible. Tim, thank you for all the wonderful information you provide on your channel.
I have a Bible that breaks the whole thing up into daily readings, OT/NT/Psalms/Proverbs for each day. Starting on Day 1, I’m hoping I can stay motivated to finish the entire Bible for the first time 😊
These are awesome tips Tim! Very practical and easy to utilize for any reading plan. About two years ago I took an Old Testament class at Spurgeon College, in that class after the intense studying we did, my favorite OT book we covered ended up being Leviticus of all books! The entire book is all about God setting apart Israel to be a holy nation amongst the rest of the nations. I would challenge anyone going into a reading plan to not be discouraged when reading a book like Leviticus or Numbers or even some of the major prophets. Go in with a fresh set of eyes looking forward to how God is showing you His plan of redemption in the book you are reading. This helped me have a new perspective when reading difficult Old Testament books.
I think steps 3 and 7 are just as vital (if not more!) as steps 1 and 2. I have never read the entire Bible in a year, as I've always allowed myself the time needed to really meditate on certain books and chapters. Discovering your channel last year has helped me to find the Bible that's easy for me to pick up and read (the ESV Clarion), so perhaps I can really give it a try in 2024!
Great suggestions. The not skipping days part is where I always get fetched up. I have been working my way through reading the Bible (including the deuterocanonical books for the first time) since September 2020. Have been using a chronological plan for the New Testament since the beginning of October and hope to finish in the next few weeks. After that I want to do a chronological plan in a year, but I’m more likely to be starting on February 1 because I got behind schedule on the plan I’ve been using.
So true Tim! All these suggestions are spot on. Engaging with the text for me was a game changer a few years ago. I got an ESV Wide Margin Reference Bible for that reason and it changed my life. Blessings to you!

My plan is to continue that way of reading this year. I’m not as interested in finishing in a year as I am of reading it completely and getting all I can out of it. Just my thoughts. Great tips, Tim! I use Pastor Matthew Everhard's Plan (It is in the link section in the box below his videos.) It has no dates, so you don't get stressed if you skip a few days. This plan helps me complete all days, though! I can read anywhere in the Bible if I am sick or tired, and I still get to check off boxes. I can read something easier to read, like Proverbs, Psalms, or something in the New Testament. I don't choose Leviticus or Deuteronomy that day!

But this New Year, I am glad to stay around not just to look forward to your Bible unboxings (which by the way I never thought in my life existed until I found your channel, and of course are absolutely so mych fun too) but to learn from you Tim! 😊 I am so glad to see this video since for the longest time, even after I rededicated myself to the Lord, I’ve struggled to read the Bible. What helps me is having a time dedicated to reading. For me it’s 7:30 after the wheel of fortune. lol. I know you said you do it in the morning , finding a time that works for you is the secret.

I need large print bibles and it makes me kind of sad that my eyesight is getting worse. I didn't know they were getting that bad until I was at Mardel looking through bibles, and I realized I had a hard time seeing anything not in large print. 😅 But now I know if I want to read the Bible in a year, it has to be big enough print.

Divine Worship: Daily Office: Commonwealth Edition (and similar Book of Common Prayer-derived Office books and devotionals) will get you all the Psalms every month, the New Testament fully every year, and like 60% of the Old Testament every year, built around a half hour of ritualized prayer in the morning and the evening!
Frogers Biblical Understanding Guide 1) Every week be Alone at least three times with God and His Word. Don’t rush. 2) Use your tools, make the font big enough to be comfortable to see, change the background to black if it makes it easier. 3) Get a win, go through a smaller book first so that you feel like you’re getting somewhere. 4) No multitasking, when it comes to understanding be devoted to understanding it. 5) highlight every verse, I’m listening to the Bible and I staying attentive by highlighting every verse. I alternate colors every verse to make looking up easier in the future, I highlight in purple for important messages God has for me and I chain different concepts with different colors. 6) look it up, that word you think you know, may mean something different 2000 years ago. 7) never stop, the Word Of God can and should be studied indefinitely.
This year, may we not only master the Word but more importantly be mastered by the Word! 😊

But what I like about the CSB is that it escapes from the Tyndale-KJV tradition in many places, whereas the NIV is still somewhat indebted to the Tyndale-KJV tradition (as are many other of our translations, especially the ESV which in my view is the best heir to the Tyndale-KJV tradition today). However, if someone finds the phrases of the Tyndale-KJV tradition more familiar or even euphonic, then they may not like the CSB as much.
c. Naturalness. The CSB is far more natural sounding than the ESV (the ESV often sounds like Yoda is speaking), though the CSB is more or less equal to the NIV in terms of naturalness. The CSB sounds more like English today in the USA, whereas the NIV sounds more like English a generation ago and the NIV is less American English and more "international" in its English. However, the CSB is more plainspoken in terms of literary style, even in sections where there is and should be a higher register (e.g. the prologue to Luke, Hebrews, poetic sections), which I think is a weakness of the CSB. The CSB is lacking in literary style. It's not bad, just not great. It doesn't really stand out, at least to my ears, whereas the ESV (thanks in large part to the Tyndale-KJV tradition) is stylistically beautiful in an understated way and as such quite memorable, which in turn is an aid in memorization. The best natural-sounding modern English translation is the NLT, but it is more loose in terms of faithfulness to the form and structure of the biblical languages.
d. Audience appropriateness. The CSB is quite appropriate to most English speakers, those who speak English as a second language, young and old, and as such serves a wide audience. Of course, so are other translations like the NIV, and especially the NLT. The ESV isn't as easily understandable by as many different groups; the ESV usually requires a higher degree of facility with the English language.
@@pattube yeah I think you and I are of the same mind. I got the CSB to be a family bible, that was easy for me to read personally, and also to my kids because it is digestible. Sure the ESV is closer in linguistic terms to the original texts, but for my purposes of ease of reading and teaching I’d say it’s fine. Then when there are additional questions that warrant nuance you break out the ESV or start getting into Strongs, Greek, Latin, etc. Does it lack style, sure but it’s accessible which is huge. I think it’s all about what purpose you intend for a translation to serve and as far as that’s concerned in my case it’s well done so far.
While I love Tim's encouragement and suggestions, I will say that there are a couple of different things that have helped me in past years. First, if you are in a season or situation where listening is the best option, than do that! Its okay to listen to Scripture be read to you on your phone. I used this especially when my kids were babies and listening was something I could easily do while nursing, running errands, cooking, etc. Would I have liked to physically read the Scriptures? Yes. But it wasn't feasible at that point in my life. I still gained a lot from taking time to go through the Scripture. The second thing is to allow yourself to go through the Bible in a shorter or longer period. For me, I kept getting stuck. So I challenged myself to do a 90 day plan. That was amazing for me! It showed me that I could make it through all the hard parts. Was it a lot more time committed every day? Yes. But I did it via audio that year and listened to the Bible instead of music or anything else that would have been on. It wasn't a deep time through the Bible but it helped me see that I am capable of reading every page of God's Word (which I had previously failed at doing). Another thing that I would suggest is to NOT go back and try to catch up. Just keep going. If you miss a day, go to the next day the next opportunity you have. Yes, not missing a day is ideal but life happens. Instead of feeling guilty or trying to spend more time catching up, just pick up where you left off. Maybe another day you will have extra time and can read an extra day. Maybe you won't finish in exactly a year. But the important thing is to keep going and to really dive into God's Word. 90 days, 6 months, a year, 3 years...any amount of time it takes to really sit down with God's Word and go through it page by page is worth it. Remember that the goal is a RELATIONSHIP with the living God through His living Word. It is not about a competition or about being perfect. We are not perfect and never will be. God will meet you where you are if you just ask Him to. Be diligent and faithful to your relationship with Him and He will fill in your gaps of imperfection. My intention this year is to read the Entire Bible, but to journal alongside it: jotting down stand out verses, things I'm curious about, or just notes on what's going on! At the moment, I only have my old KJV gifted to me years ago, so I can't write directly in it.

But, there is one note in there, in the front. I put it there to remind me that God loves us all. I'd struggled with faith for a long time, but that message brought me back to Him.
I loved the 2 year reading plan from the Bible you reviewed called the ESV Daily Reading Bible. Last year I got a Schuyler Bible for my birthday so I don't need a new Bible. I tried to find this plan online but didn't find it. I wish they would post it but I get why they don't.
If you struggle with finding time in the morning, I’m going to start listening to my selections on my drive to work, then read through them when I get home!

I’ve used my Bible app to read the Bible chronological order before. It is hard when you get behind for sure. Plus, I love the physical Bible in my hand to read better. Last year I slowed down and decided to study the word. I’m over half way through the Bible. I’m wanting every page filled with notes. There has been so many times I’ve studied something and was like, I don’t remember reading that ever! I love it! I should finish that Bible some time this year. I got myself a Bible this year to just read too. Morning time is my study time. I’ve started just reading my Bible later in the evening also.
These are some great tips. I am 202 days into the Grant Horner reading plan and all your tips are directly applicable to the consistency my buddy and I have had along this journey.

Another thing I found true is find Bible translation the helps with the experience. I am reading The Amplified Bible Expanded Edition. It has kept my attention.
I have read the Bible in one year many times. It's fun to do
I like to read five chapters a day. New testament in the morning Old testament at night. I read Monday through Friday. Saturday and Sunday is reserved for catching up days in case I skipped a day or for rereads. Sometimes you run into a passage that you struggle with. For a while, I was struggling with the end of Genesis. Seems like the enemy didn't want me to get to Exodus. I do keep a journal separate. And use the HEAR method of note taking.

I started a 1 year plan back on November 10. I have read the Bible from beginning to end multiple times. This though is the first time I am doing it chronological order. Also I am doing this with a new translation, the CSB. I have not read or used the CSB. Through multiple UA-camrs I decided to give it a try. I bought a cheap copy of the CSB, thus far I like it. I am though in one of the most boring books Leviticus. Not looking forward to Numbers either.

In 2023 I read the Bible chronologically with the Bible recap.
I enjoyed Tara Leigh’s recap and often went back if I missed things she mentioned.
By the end of the year it was a habit!
My best tip for reading the Bible in a year is that if you skip a day for whatever reason, don’t go back to the days you missed just continue reading from where you’re supposed to be

I think there are different approaches for different personalities too. I'm not the kind of person who can just read 3-4 chapters every day. It just doesn't work like that for me. I usually end up reading 25 chapters and then get sidetracked. A week later, I'll read another big chunk. But I've learned that there's nothing wrong with that approach. It works for me (and probably others who have ADHD).

Well, I am committed to reading the Bible every year- because of that, if I skip a day, I don’t sweat it, because I know I’ll catch it next year. After 20 or 30 years, I know it pretty well, but even more importantly, I have the big picture- and I know the Author even better. Because of the Holy Spirit making it come alive, it always speaks to me. Thanks for your work, it’s obvious it’s a labor of Love!
This is fantastic information! Step 5 really hit me....I read through the bible for the first time and felt accomplished. After so many years of failing lol But this year, I'm going 'wide margin' and engaging through the experience. Now I just need to find the right wide margin lololol My hopes, one day is for Thomas Nelson to create a wide margin KJV in the premier collection. Right now, I'm going to be using the Sovereign.

Looking forward to this! I'm currently reading straight through an NKJV with brief book introductions and center column references. On track to finish the second half of January. I have an NLT lined up to read through next. It doesn't have book introductions or cross references, just translation and textual footnotes. Looking forward to the experience of reading through a simpler translation with minimal distractions. I'm hoping it will make some parts of the bible I found difficult in the NKJV (Job and some of the prophets) a little easier to understand. Keen to make it more meaningful as well 😃

I have two favorite translations. The NLT is the Bible I use for reading through in a year because it makes it a little more simpler to read. And my other favorite is the NKJV that I often compare to the NLT and find that I'm getting the exact same message which I'm happy about.

If you’re catholic, I highly, highly recommend going through “a bible in a year” by ascension presents and Fr Mike Schmitz. It’s an already planned out course that has a podcast that goes along with it to make things easier to understand with a father’s commentary.

This will be my year's plan to read my Bible in a year, after I only made it to June. I found that as the year progressed I was not happy with the plan or Bible translation. So I am going back to my Day by Day Chronological Bible in the CSB translation. That plan and translation worked very well for me last time, and I know it will again. In addition I am adding 3 key parts to my reading plan: understanding the origin of the passage, content of the passage, and the meaning of the passage by asking the who, what, why, when, where and how questions. I am excited to see how this will advance my progress in the Bible.

These are awesome tips Tim! Very practical and easy to utilize for any reading plan.
About two years ago I took an Old Testament class at Spurgeon College, in that class after the intense studying we did, my favorite OT book we covered ended up being Leviticus of all books! The entire book is all about God setting apart Israel to be a holy nation amongst the rest of the nations. I would challenge anyone going into a reading plan to not be discouraged when reading a book like Leviticus or Numbers or even some of the major prophets. Go in with a fresh set of eyes looking forward to how God is showing you His plan of redemption in the book you are reading. This helped me have a new perspective when reading difficult Old Testament books.
I think steps 3 and 7 are just as vital (if not more!) as steps 1 and 2. I have never read the entire Bible in a year, as I've always allowed myself the time needed to really meditate on certain books and chapters. Discovering your channel last year has helped me to find the Bible that's easy for me to pick up and read (the ESV Clarion), so perhaps I can really give it a try in 2024!

Great suggestions. The not skipping days part is where I always get fetched up. I have been working my way through reading the Bible (including the deuterocanonical books for the first time) since September 2020. Have been using a chronological plan for the New Testament since the beginning of October and hope to finish in the next few weeks. After that I want to do a chronological plan in a year, but I’m more likely to be starting on February 1 because I got behind schedule on the plan I’ve been using.

Great tips, Tim! I use Pastor Matthew Everhard's Plan (It is in the link section in the box below his videos.) It has no dates, so you don't get stressed if you skip a few days. This plan helps me complete all days, though! I can read anywhere in the Bible if I am sick or tired, and I still get to check off boxes. I can read something easier to read, like Proverbs, Psalms, or something in the New Testament. I don't choose Leviticus or Deuteronomy that day!

Picked up a NKJV daily reading Bible from Half Price Books back in 2023 for this express purpose.
What helps me is having a time dedicated to reading. For me it’s 7:30 after the wheel of fortune. lol. I know you said you do it in the morning , finding a time that works for you is the secret.

I need large print bibles and it makes me kind of sad that my eyesight is getting worse. I didn't know they were getting that bad until I was at Mardel looking through bibles, and I realized I had a hard time seeing anything not in large print. 😅 But now I know if I want to read the Bible in a year, it has to be big enough print.

When I was a child I could read the Bible in a week. Now it would take me much longer. I’m an atheist now. I wonder if that’s connected
2024 is my year. 5 day bible reading program, NASB95 text, life application study notes.
Similar to what I believe Catholics do at Mass, read from three different parts of the Bible each day.

Divine Worship: Daily Office: Commonwealth Edition (and similar Book of Common Prayer-derived Office books and devotionals) will get you all the Psalms every month, the New Testament fully every year, and like 60% of the Old Testament every year, built around a half hour of ritualized prayer in the morning and the evening!
Frogers Biblical Understanding Guide
1) Every week be Alone at least three times with God and His Word. Don’t rush.
2) Use your tools, make the font big enough to be comfortable to see, change the background to black if it makes it easier.
3) Get a win, go through a smaller book first so that you feel like you’re getting somewhere.
4) No multitasking, when it comes to understanding be devoted to understanding it.
5) highlight every verse, I’m listening to the Bible and I staying attentive by highlighting every verse. I alternate colors every verse to make looking up easier in the future, I highlight in purple for important messages God has for me and I chain different concepts with different colors.
6) look it up, that word you think you know, may mean something different 2000 years ago.
7) never stop, the Word Of God can and should be studied indefinitely.
