  • Dr. Grant Horner's Bible Reading System is an increasingly popular way to read the Bible. He developed this system as a new Christian and went from a drug addict to a budding Bible scholar in one year. I challenge you to try it for thirty days and see if it right for you.

Thank you for this! I've been looking for a way to truly read the Bible from cover to cover. I'm not really contented by reading just one book or some books. I'm so slow in reading. This reading plan is a blessing. God bless you!

Thank you for this fantastic explanation! This very video has motivated me to try this program, and I’ve been using it for 52 days today. It’s absolutely transformed my intimacy with God.
I did, however, adapt the lists to my own preferences. Also, I tried to make it more balanced and evened out. And I read from beginning to end:
    List 1: Pentateuch
List 2: History of Israel I (Joshuah - 2nd Samuel)
List 3: History of Israel II (1st Chronicles - Job)
List 4: Wisdom I (Psalm books I and II + Proverbs)
List 5: Wisdom II (Psalm books III - V + Eccl + Song of Solomon)
List 6: Prophets I (Isaiah, Jeremia, Lamentations)
List 7: Prophets II (Ezechiel - Malachi)
    List 8: Gospels
List 9: All of Pauls epistles (w/o Hebrews, because we don’t know for sure he wrote that)
List 10: Acts, Hebrews, the other epistels, and Revelation)
If anyone’s interested, I can send you a pdf for a more detailed explanation.

I’ve been using this reading plan and I absolutely love it! Thanks for spreading the word about this reading plan. I used to read the Bible straight from beginning to end and it gets boring like you said, but not with this system. I read 10 books at a time, one chapter each, sometimes more but I try to stick with the lists. I highly recommend this reading plan.

I have printed your PDF, and have shared this with any Christian who will listen to me! I can’t thank you enough. I think the title of your video drew me in.

I actually crossed it off list #3 and added it to list #4 before the book of James where it belongs. And I like it better that way. Is more fluid, I think.

I really dislike reading plans that jump you all over the Bible. You lose important context this way and it makes it more difficult to follow narrative sections. I found it much better just to start at the beginning and read several chapters a day. If you’re new to the Bible use the NLT and get a good handle on the Scriptures with an easy to read translation. Once you’ve read it through re-read the New Testament a couple times. Then start over in a different translation. When reading slowly and highlighting things that stand out you can get through the Bible in about 80 hours, so even as little as 30 min a day will get you through in 6 months leaving you plenty of time to re-read the NT a couple of times before starting over.

I thought the same thing before I started this plan (I didn’t even want to read Old Testament and New Testament at the same time, let alone 10 books), but there are advantages both ways. Only reading one book at a time can lead to tunnel vision and not remembering what other parts of Scripture have said on similar topics/events, while this gives you a great big picture view of the Bible. To make sure I don’t forget the context I usually read the last part of the chapter before to refresh my memory (makes it take longer but it’s worth it). It’s also very hard to remember the whole Bible anyway with only one readthrough, the Bible really needs to be read repeatedly over a lifetime to make it sink in. But that’s why it is such a treasure to believers, there is a never-ending supply of wisdom and truth.

*Read it in order written* according to the scholarly consensus. *Respect the text* enough to let each author speak for himself. Don’t insert your modern understanding or your Church leader’s explanation.
For passages difficult to understand, seek scholarly secular explanations (some faithful scholars provide secular translations, I.e. not assuming anything about God or his relationship to the Bible). The point is to not assume you know what the authors *meant* to say. You can’t know what they were thinking. Your clues are what they wrote, especially in the context of their culture, especially their language.
If you find yourself saying, “He must have meant…,” 🛑 stop. You’re about to insert your theology instead letting the text speak for itself.

I actually did the maths with someone, it's a lot more than 30 years until it repeats!!
It's more like 16 BILLION years until you get back to all the readings on the first day! And considering that the universe is 'only' 14.5bn years old... God has something fresh to say every. single. day.

It would greatly help if the pastor or minister of the Churches attended would teach the word book by book chapter by chapter verse by verse with understanding stop using man WORDS and commentary that most of the time so nothing to enhance gives greater meaning to the word and another study aid would be a James Strong Concordance lookup words in a verse in the old testament use The Hebrew dictionary CALDESCE and ARAMAIC make the verses plain and for the new testament use The Greek dictionar!; and another study tool is the COMPAION STUDY BIBLE BY EW BULINGER that outlined every CHAPTER in the Bible authorized king James Bible Also has a side columns explain the verses and in the back of the Bible there is a 198 apendex like v146 what in the first earth and heaven age and. What happened between Satan and mother Eve. 179 gives you a moment to moment of the birth of Jesus Christ. 153: tells of the CRUCIFIXION of Christ and 44 telling you what is sin difference between EACH and the punishment for EACH!
