    I am so glad more and more black professionals are doing natural hair. When I started my journey back 2004 very few stylists would tackle natural hair. But an Italian male stylist in Boston Ma gave me a silk press and I never put relaxants in my hair again

I come from a very mixed family and most of us Girls in our family have Medium to very thick and wavy to kinky hair. One of my Aunties is Puertorican and when we were younger she would use Three Flowers or in Spanish it's called Tres flores. It is an oily goop but not as nice as an Edge control product. Because of it being oily, our hair would attract lint throughout the day...It was terrible. I wish she had known about Brown gel back then. I didnt start using it until I was 20 years old when I went to Cometology school. I will be 49 this year in June and haven't stopped using it yet. FYI: The main reason the hair reverts after it has been pressed/straightened is because the humectants in the product are attracting moisture to the hair. Moisture causes the hair to revert. The pressing oil that I have does not have humectants, thus allowing the hair to remain straight longer. I hope this helps someone.

I have natural hair that I'm growing out so it's down a little below my shoulders now. Every time I hot brush my hair out and hot curl it, it looks nice for a little while and then by the end of the day it has turned into a curly, wavy semi-fro. I get so disgusted that I don't even bother going through all the time it takes to get it to look nice and just brush it back, braid it and keep it moving. I need my ends trimmed and a simple style that will last. I sure could use your help girl.

      live love laugh my daughter is 4c low porosity which is the opposite of my hair so I totally understand. Are your strands fine? Course? Stuff that works in my hair leaves her hair feeling dry.
      Porosity determines how your hair responds to the stuff you are putting on it. Low porosity hair takes longer to suck in moisture because those cuticles are closed. But once moisture is in, it ain’t going anywhere. But putting too much product on low porosity hair, it just sits there and eventually builds up and weighs the hair down. It’s actually pointless and wasteful because your hair isn’t even absorbing it.
      4C, 3B it doesn’t matter when it comes to growth. What matters is hair density and porosity. Learning those two things will have your hair healthy and strong. Good luck on your journey!

    Why do you need both hot comb and flat iron to tackle her hair? Her hair don't need that much heat that is alot of heat her hair is already damage a good trim and a silk press with the flat iron would do her hair will have lots of body and be smooth. I say she need a cut cause the frount is longer then the back it will be very uneven. Was I triping or was there hair in the hot comb? The ending made her hair look better will you show the progress if you haven't already?

    I just asked this question about the term “Silk Press.”
    When this “service” was initially introduced to the Natural Hair Community; what I LEARNED was that it IS a “treatment” that requires an “oil-blend in conjunction with the use of heat” which takes a standard “press” to a “silk-out.”
    Over YT-time, the term has been used interchangeably with standard presses. Because of course on YT, not everyone has a professional background, people are using “terminology” that they hear used, and not necessarily understand the differences where there are some.
    You say, that “It’s just a term?” 🤔 Which totally makes sense to how many others also don’t seem to accept it to be a #specific service? Interesting.

    • @ohreally404
      @ohreally404 5 місяців тому

      A standard press is done with a pressing comb, a silk press is done mainly with a flat iron and should not be greasy like the old school press. "Silking" the hair comes from method of blow drying the hair until its nearly bone straight, then flat ironing which makes the hair shiny and silky

    I like how you braid and twist the hair and put them under the dryer. However, my hair is very short. I typically let my hair air dry about 60%, blow dry, hot brush, then flat iron with my 3/10" iron. I actually clip my ends by braiding my hair in individual braids, then clip off the tips every 2 months. Every time I let someone else do anything besides my barber cutting my fro, something disastrous happens to my hair or mainly scalp which is extremely dry and sensitive to tension and heat.

    So her hair is already damaged and you are using heat to damage it more. Passing through that hair too many time with heat. When are we going to start taking care of our hair for healthy hair instead of damaging it just for a style. These styles prevent hair from growing properly. Her hair looks way to dry n thin to even be applying heat to it. Yikes. Im sorry but because her hair is so damaged the silk press doesnt look good. It's still very stiff.
