Thanks for this story, Karin! My wife suffers from diabetes type 1 since 1993. Today, she's 54, she is still working as a teacher in a school, fulltime. She's not the person to complain all the time, on the contrary, she is very optimistic and courageous. She wares an insuline pump and a sensor. It demands a lot of discipline to manage the treatment of her disease. There are people, even some of her colleagues at school, who do not understand her. They have indeed their own perception. Therefor, this story is important. Thanks for sharing!
Look in to supplementing with chromium and magnesium, which helps to "open" the insulin receptors on cells. I prefer chromium polynicotinate, which is 300 times more effective than chromium picolinate and magnesium malate or citrate. Avoid magnesium oxide, which is crap.
Please go for plant based diet. I am doing it my insulin levels have gone down
Thank you Ludo! It is so important for patients to take charge and not be victims - only we can drive real change and everyone in the diabetes infrastructure benefits from our experiences and passion
Being a type 1, I have found that my blood sugar is much easier to control when I eat very few carbohydrates. I eat no grain products, no potatoes, and no sugar (honey, molasses...) The only carbs I ingest are from fresh fruits (mostly berries) and non-starchy vegetables. I also don't eat boxed or processed food. I get the majority of my calories from FAT. My lipid panel is amazing. My A1C is below 6 and my basal insulin is ridiculously low. I bolous 2 units for every 15 grams of carbs I eat...far lower than all of my type 1 friends. My biggest beef is generally with the ADA and American pharmaceutical companies. The freestyle Libre has been available in the European market for 2 years. The Libre is an inexpensive glucose monitoring system where a sensor is worn for 14 days (can anyone say almost no finger sticks) and blood sugar can be read by simply holding my smart phone (or the meter that comes with it). This gives patients real time information they can use and learn from, yet the consumer version is still not available in the US. The physician version is available, but this takes away the most important component of diabetes care...understanding your bs levels and what causes them to change.
C Shepherd - but where’s the profit in that?
(Btw, I fully concur with your approach.)
C Shepherd
Wow, I've heard that that type of diet is useful for type 2but I haven't looked into type 1.
And thanks for telling us about Libre!
Nora Parker
Hahaha, *EVERY western doctor EVER*
I completely agree with that program
We are rocking at diabetes control here with a low carb diet. My daughter is still honeymooning, but she is insuline free due to the low carb diet! :)
Thank you Karin for sharing your insight and information. I participate globally in Team Diabetes events. Would love to get a small group together to do a fund raising event in Sweden where we dog sled in the north. Team Diabetes is a part of Diabetes Canada - what is the best way to contact you? via email or via twitter?
🤛
It is better to talk about recovering methods than just explaining the type of it
Note that this is NOT a video about how to treat your own diabetes. If you expect to be told how to eat and what medicines to take you're watching the wrong video. Please re-read the title.
type 2 can be managed by logo diet & intermittent fasting, this is creating panic,do not go by her words,
mean kit diet
kitogenic diet
Ketogenic - see sub Reddit 'keto' for LOTS of information and recipes.
I am guessing you are the exception, not the rule, most of us would not get a new kidney, mush less also a panaceas. we would just die., an early death. You , speaker, are fortunate. Perhaps you will motivate other with your story. Otherwise? Good luck, I did not realize I was making so many ( diabetic) decisions each day, but I do feel a burden from it.
I am very fortunate and I hope to motivate others through my story and the learnings that I am trying convey - as well as getting involved in solving the problems we experience
You are what you eat, no one can help you, you need to help yourself
Eating is not a reason for type 1!!!!!!!
Do everyone a favor may and research type 1 diabetes.
watch it in 1.25x, thank me later
Sorry but I really think you need to distinguish more between Types 1 and 2. Lifestyle is important. No it’s crucial.
I have been informed by my diabetic educator that a Pacreatic transplanted is not possible! Please comment on your claim to having had one.
around 200 are done annually in the US
It is so frustrating that these people don't tell us what to do.
Politician-like speech, no real content.
I am sorry you feel that way
there are way too many adds
Motherhood statement talk, little by way of specific solutions. IOW, talk for talk sake.
She is a terrible doctor. Not once did she ever consider diet. She seems to have totally overlooked that a solution to Type 2 exists, it's called a whole food plant based diet. You don't need to wait for someone else to solve your problem. You can take care of it yourself. Look up Preventing and Reversing Diabetes by Dr. Neal Barnard, MD and start getting better tomorrow.
She doesnt talk about that. Her goal is creating and marketing PRODUCTS and making profits from this and as a byproduct helping people. Primarily its about trying to get people into the product end of the disease for her. Education and diet change ar the key. My wife and kid are doing Keto and I have noticed a large change in my glucose and no need for insulin if I eattheir way. Even if I eat some carbs with predominant protiens, fats and vegetables the carbs (in reasonable amounts) dont seem to phase me. I had corned beef and cabbage tonight, had a carrot and a lg red potato (2/3 of one). No need for insulin. I think I'm convinced that keto can work for me.
Hi - diet is very important and def part of the solution - my point is that people need to take charge of their lives, not that they should only use pharmaceuticals!!
Not very helpful is it?
Many people reverse fibetics why r u saying this
This is the most worthless talk that I've seen in a very long time.
InstaBlaster
She does not appear to be very well informed. See Dr. Jason Fung from Toronto who is having excellent results with his approach based on a low carb diet combined with intermittent fasting.
no you will not with this approach. Sorry. Wake up call needed here.. for you too.

Dr bung
You
Afrezza, Inhalable insulin. Peace.
If you are type1 you need it. if not give keto an honest try. If I stick to keto I need NO insulin. All i have done on insulin is get fatter.
No solution(s) mentioned. A terrible Ted talk.
THIS IS AN ANNOUNCEMENT: JUST HAVE A COUPLE OF SLICES OF SWEET POTATOES (BOILED) IN THE MORNING. KEEP RICE AT ABOUT 1 TO 1-1/2 CUPS A DAY PLUS FEW SLICES OF BREAD . KEEP YOUR CARBS LOW. STAY AWAY FROM SUGAR AND SWEETS. TRY TO EAT BREAKFAST AND LUNCH ONLY. YOU ARE ON YOUR WAY TO PERFECT HEALING FROM DIABETES !
You dont need any of that stuff. Protiens with fats and veg is all you need. No carbs needed.
FlyBaby try it first
Sheer wastage of time
