I wish I could give you 1000 thumbs up. I'm very disappointed in this (and so many other) "presentation". I watch these right and left and some people say we only started eating grains when farming began and it wasn't part of our natural diet so eat meat. And then the vegans say, don't eat meat, eat grains. I've deduced I can only live a healthy life if I just drink filtered water and eat air. (sarcasm off). After seeing all these people with great credentials from good schools, preaching the opposite of each other, I've decided to limit my diet to M&M's. With nuts, of course!
shamrockrancher...... ha ha me too, obviously, there is other things at play here as well, because two completely opposite nutritional lifestyles can produce good results. Probably stick to whole foods, minimally processed. Most people didn't arrive at this unhealthy stage of life by eating, whole, minimally processed food. Eating processed food, drinking sugary drinks, and over consumption of these foods has caused the health crisis we have today.
lol We are all looking for answers to the ongoing crappiness of life, living well, and putting off death for as long as possible. There are a LOT of contradictory messages. Some fueled by greed, others by an honest search for truth, and so many other motives. How can we ever know where exactly someone is coming from or what motivates them? Once we do find these 1 in a million persons it is likely others are listening to them as well. But not everyone with thousands of followers, a tv show, and a twitter account equate to a proof positive that they are wise. Most people are wrong most of the time, I believe is an accurate saying. There is a lot of information out there and quite simply sometimes you press through and make your own food decision, such as "m&ms." The fact in the end is sweat the diet question but there is no end all be all answer to life. Live is complex and messy and a bane to master all at once. Live as well as possible while searching for more accurate truths to live better by, that's how I roll when I'm rolling well.
She is a bit off. First off we didn't evolve from apes. There are five types of humanoids that have been discovered. And most importantly the structural part of the brain is 60% DHA. EPA is our greatest natural anti-inflammatory along with sulfur second. Which tends to suggest that we did not evolve on the Savannah plains.
According to this lady we used to be monkeys, in which case we can evolve in whichever direction our "food" takes us. So perhaps that evolutionary premise is wrong.
I still recommend that people that are interested in diet and "What should I eat", go take about 2 hours of a non stop presentation in You Tube by the late Nicholas Gonzalez, "What should I eat"? that was presented in 2010. For everyone that thinks they have to be a Vegan, Vegetarian, follow paleo, keto, Atkins, South Beach, Ornish, Pritikin, Oprah, and a thousand other diets, please take the time to listen to him. Diet research updates weekly, even your Doctor couldn't keep up with all the literature. The good thing is is actually very easy: eat a moderate amount of diverse organic food.
Keto, paleo, vegan.. when you think about it are all basically saying the same thing. Eat real food, don't eat processed junk, and don't consume sugar.

After all these talks and docs about nutrition, I came to a conclusion; eat anything you like that isn't processed but nothing in excess. You can eat ice cream, if you make it yourself with natural ingredients. It's a lot of work so you're not likely to make it often so it becomes a treat but if it's on the shelf at the local store, that's when it becomes an excess.
Exercise- run 4-5 miles daily - don’t jog. No sugar, no alcohol, no processed foods. Follow 16 hour fasting and 8 hour eating regimen. Relieve stress, sleep 8-9 hours !!! That’s it.
She talks about animals at that time as very lean, which is probably true. But she doesn't mention the fact that the whole animal was eaten, including the fatty organs such as the brain.
One topic that I have never seen much information on is whether the depleted soils we grow our food in really have the levels of nutrition we expect. After a while, the fertilizer makes the plants manufacture starch---and not much else. Anyone else think this might be a part of the obesity epidemic in US. Never reaching the point of satiety due to lack of trace nutrients. . . .
My community has been growing its own food and optimizing the soil for a few years now. I have come to feel a huge difference between our produce and that which comes from non-optimized soil. It tastes and feels emptier and I need more to satiate me. I tested it time and time again and always came to the same result. The same goes for our own meat and dairy compared to industrial products.
Yes, all the natural microbes in the soil; that produce various substances for plants to absorb; are being destroyed by using unnatural fertilizers, and poisonous herbicides and pesticides.

I studied biological anthropology at UCSD to follow this thread that astounds me at how I experience passion as the information is presented. I am wholly grateful and in alignment.
Hi there, please do not judge others so hard. It might not be easy to stand there and give a talk. Some things she says might be true, some others not. Just take the positive side of the message: this woman had difficult times, worked hard and studied to overcome her problems. That sounds real stuff for me. And regarding diet, try what is best for you and move on!
i'm with you on the judging, but she takes an anecdote and bends not just dietary science, but all the science around it to make it make sense. this is so far off the rails, it should come with a disclaimer.
I've resolved so many problems on carnivore. Sugar was part of my problem. Sugar is in nearly everything. Fake sugar was also a part of my problem. So cutting everything else out and eating high quality meat has made me healthier than I have been in years. Dr. Ken Berry, on UA-cam, presents it very well. Plants have chemicals that are intended to protect them. Animals have teeth and claws. This the animal based food is less inflammatory than plant based food. Good luck. Whatever you do, don't stop trying to learn and improve!
I’ve been watching many videos on dietary issues and solutions, and I find it a bit interesting that people who focused on Keto and carnivore diet actually talk about what happens in the body while most vegans and vegetarians and plant based diet people talk about the world and statistics instead of the chemistry that actually happens in your body when you consume the things you consume
The beautiful part of this talk is, it is personal experience. Quite often in modern science we try to establish the idea that "one size fits all". People continue to follow practices which everyone involve in. It is just matter of time, before world evolves to learn and identify what is right for individual body. We cannot force everyone to believe. Healthy skepticism is good, but outright discarding information is not science. Tailored diet for our genetic pool, and introducing necessary food for desired outcome, beyond, purified drug molecules will be the Future.
Humans will adapt to any diet, but many will die before we adapt. Also, we are an evolutionary anachronism. We evolved to a time when we hunted and gathered (we did that for 100,000 years) and most recently we became sedentary and haven't completely adapted.

My ideal food plan is the well-balanced Meditarranean Diet. I got sick twice in a month going 'Plant-Based' and I also followed advice in taking Vitamin and Protein supplements before you ask!!..... Eating meat again made me better. So a balance of fruit, veggies, nuts, seeds, and quality fish and meats is MY way to go. I've also felt better in avoiding dairy, unhealthy sugar and products made with gluten.
I must have been reading the wrong books all my life. I thought carrots, onions ect where a product of agriculture rather than just randomly found in the Savannah (or anywhere else for that matter). You could only find inedible wild berries and perhaps some mushroom in nature. Therefore the diet was more likely to be fish and meat back then!
Nomads in Mongolia generally have very strong bone and fit, the main diet is meat from the grass fed, free roaming animals. Also they never eat more than twice a day which are meat soup or boiled meat and a cup of tea.

The modern western society thinks they know everything about life but the fact is that in reality they know nothing about life. In my eyes all the studies and science we have are pushing us away from reality.
My great grand parents and the older 100+ y/o generation people are mainly meat eaters. But we eat farm raised, grass fed meat. And we are also from the mountains, uphill both ways, low oxygen.

Ayurveda believes that the ideal diet varies for 3 types of personality types: Vaata, Kapha and Pitta. I am an asthmatic which automatically makes me a Kapha. (Prone to excess mucus - Kapha = Cough) The dietary recommendations for Kapha suit me perfectly.
An overall good presentation but with many inaccuracies. It is somehow based on prehistorical facts but it disregards the fact that animal breeding came in before agriculture for example. Animals were needed as they were a food bank, a guarantee for survival. Also inaccurate on the dairy civilization in northern Europe, they maintain the ability to drink milk their whole life, while the rest of the world does not.

I am 55, South European ancestry and have been unable to drink milk and yogurt for the most part of my life, until a few years ago, I discovered that lactose free milk solved my problem, and I started making my own yogurt with lactose free milk. So that's my experience, but I am not saying that it should work for everyone, we are all different, that's why we are called individuals.Maybe you can try if you haven''t yet.
I'm not Northern European. My genetics are mostly Southern European/Mediterranean and Amerindian. And I drink milk almost every day. Not a problem whatsoever.

Are Oats good for your digestive system? It slows digestion and feeds the good bacteria in your gut. Eran Segal's TED talk - positing individualized diets to reflect difference between humans and their respective biomes - was way more persuasive than this one-size-fits-all dietary prescription.
steve james thats anecdotal evidence. Im carnivore my whole life and say the same thing. Oh but i dont take any supplements. Nothing. No vitamins, minerals, nothing. You cant say the same or you would be dead.

Sorry, but the "ideal" diet for humans is the one that works for them. After years of "conventional wisdom" on salads, I discovered I'm highly sensitive to insoluble fiber. You have to find what works best for you, but cleverly, getting your micro / macro nutrients from any source that works best. And - NO added sugars of any kind.

Conventional wisdom living on salads ? That might’ve been a thing for a moment in the 60’s or 70’s but it’s been common knowledge what a diet heavy on salads will do to your digestive system.
Calories matters, especially it comes to people talking about why they gain weight on certain foods. Any food will make u gain weight. You won’t gain weight on potatoes and legumes if you eat within your caloric daily intake. I’ve eaten horrible fatty junk food in my caloric range for some times and never gained weight. People expect to go vegan and lose weight yet eat SO MANY calories. Almond butter, nuts, oil etc are all healthy but eat too much you will gain. calories matter. and healthy food. Not in excess.

Every hunter gatherer society that ever existed were predominantly meat eaters. Proves vegan is not an ideal diet for humans, it’s unnatural and unhealthy and only possible with modern day supplements.
Wow, you've given a dangerous talk here. I knew a young cancer sufferer personally who may have survived if she had have continued radiation therapy treatment instead of relying on a diet. Talks which lead people to make decisions against the consensus of the scientific community should be taken with a wholegrain of salt.
So you think poison is the answer?? One of the foundational reasons why the scientific data is inaccurate on chemo and radiation is what is called the 5-year survival rate. So if you live 5 years and one day after you're diagnosis date you are considered saved" from cancer that that was a success. We do not evaluate a treatment based on this principle for any other disease but cancer.
Thyroid cancer, too, is one of the most survivable cancers. Just because thyroid cancer can be survived without radiation does not mean more aggressive cancers can, too. The five-year survival rate of thyroid cancer (which I believe is what she had - correct me if I'm wrong ) is 99%. Ovarian cancer is 75% and pancreatic cancer is 11%. There's a big difference in how much you want to mess around with those, and I'm one (with thyroid disease) who always tries to deal with stuff first by using diet as treatment. If I ever end up with something bad, I will consider all my options.
Chuck and taekwonmo. A 10 year survival rate can be found on the Australian Cancer Government page showing less than 4% variation from 5 year. I do not see a 4% fluctuation as enough to raise suspicion. Please do your research, and don’t rely on activated almonds when your life, or the life of a loved one is on the line.
@@andrew.colbeck I was agreeing with you. All I'm saying is that thyroid cancer (which I think is what she had) is extremely survivable, even if it's not treated at all. My endo actually told me that if you have to have cancer, thyroid cancer is the one to get, because so few people die of it. The radiation is there pretty much to wipe out the thyroid to make sure the thyroid doesn't grow back tissue after it's taken out. So surviving this type of cancer, with or without radiation, is not unusual. And it's terrible to assume that just because a thyroid cancer survivor didn't get radiation, others with more malignant cancers can do the same.
in my experience the best diet is the masai diet. the masai only live on foods from cows--milk, cream, beef, and they also extract blood from the cows and drink it without killing the cows. they do have one rule about food mixing--"if a man eats meat and drinks milk on the same day, he is a glutton" for me I've lived about 14 years 90% on cow milk and cow cream--wonderful diet.
What I've realised is that everyone is individual when it comes to their diet. Some people struggle to digest meat, some struggle with fibre, and then you have people who can't eat nightshades, and a big percentage who are gluten and lactose intolerant. There are lots of different reasons for this. I know some of the GMO grown crops like peanuts have been directly linked to why some folks suffer severe allergies. There is also the chemicals we spray on plants and also things like grain fed animals that are contributing to the inflammation we are having. Toxic levels of heavy metals in certain marine species. Mankind messes around with nature too much. Whole, organic, tamper-free food seems to be the way forward, be it animals or plants. Vegans are more prone to deficiencies, especially in zinc, iron and b12. Also there is not one single study worldwide, that proves consuming organic, grass-fed meat contributes to ill-health. The same goes for pasture-raised, organic eggs. People who eat more natural fats are satiated longer, leading to less hunger cravings/vitamin deficiencies. I've studied food for quite a while now, and I'm certain high consumption of grains and sugar is inflammatory, even the wholegrains spike blood sugars hugely. The lady doesn't mention ketones once, and that her choices on food are greener, more environment friendly orientated. This immediately heightens my suspicions on the narrative they are pushing for the green agenda. This basically stems down from the World Economic Forum - a bunch of anti-humane oligarchs who have their communistic finger in every pie. Their lobbying, propaganda and 'philanthropy' have reached insane levels, and only those with their morals intact that can resist the monetary gains to be had, are creditable sources of information. She is either a shill for the narrative, or vastly under-researched.
Is that also the case for lions? For example, do some lions need to eat mostly grass and some mostly meat? How about cows, goats, horses, pandas, etc? Why is it that only humans have such amazing variance between members of the species? The reality is that there is one single human diet. What do we like raw? That is our natural diet. Fruits mostly, but to a lesser extend also tender leafs, tender vegetables, nuts, seeds, honey, and herbs. If you can consume it raw, then you can digest the food using just your body. Clearly the food is natural to you if your body comes equipped with everything that is needed to digest the food. Cooking is the artificial predigesting of foods. You only need to cook foods which your body cannot digest on it's own. If you need to cook food then it is not your natural diet. Cooking works for any mammal, it is how we feed cats beans and grains. Why do we need to cook it for cats? Because it is not their natural diet. We would not have to cook the grains for e.g. a horse. They can eat it raw. Using cooking to consume unhealthy foods which we lack the natural means to fully digest is not unique to humans, it works on our pets as well and it even works on many wild animals that live near humans. So all humans have the same natural diet. The reason why some people need certain bad foods which other people cannot stand is the same as for why some people are addicted to smoking while other people cannot stand smoking. Some people become addicted to bad foods and have their body become numb to the acute warning signals that more sensitive people would experience.
Just lay off breads, flour of any kind! Lay off sugar … even fructose! And get PLENTY of active exercise , sunshine, and lots of restful sleep, and you’ll be fine!👍❤️
yeah, oils too. drink more water. whole foods over processed or pre-packaged and manufactured foods. don't be lazy. fight the urge for convenience and instantly ready meals. take the time to cook them yourself instead of eating out. also, Americans should be consuming twice the recommended amount of salt every day. follow my advice. or do the research if you doubt. you won't be sorry...
Galit Goldfarb addresses good points, even though I don't like the bible reference in the ending. She stresses the similarity among all humans, but it kinda feels like she's got a blind spot for the microbiome there. Enlightening skip to Kwashiorkor disease though. There are mistakes in history made on a big scale, also nutrition wise, we can learn from. Her note on healing herself of cancer through diet leaves me amazed and baffled. Very interesting and honest is her story about opening a health and weight loss clinic and closing it again, due to doubts on her knowledge. I respect her for that. It also humbles our recent knowledge, the state of the art is what it is - always transitory. Kinda makes me smile that what was her big result of research after closing down, now is just average baseline knowledge in 2024. It makes me wonder what she was teaching in her clinic beforehand. It also reminds me, as just said, that what nowadays is being told about nutrition most likely is not final.
Thus one size does not fit all. In a nutshell you need to get a blood sugar level meter and record YOUR personal response from different foods. One diet does not fit for everyone
You want to know why she does not actually tell what the diet is? It's because she is here only to promote her wonder diets and programs that she sells for living.
@@hypnoliebecoaching8296 she was extremely general, didn't go into any detail or nuance what so ever. all she said was, "eat whole food plant based" (note a lot of ppl are confusing this to mean vegan, nowhere in the talk did she say to exclude meat or animal products). Eating whole food plant based is the generally accepted died for health in 2019, she's preaching to the choir, almost anyone who cares about what they eat, eats this way now.
It's truly amazing how many experts in the fields of biology, physiology, ecology and economics are here in the comments section. Public discussions about diet are always a hoot, and should be largely ignored.

From what I’ve learned there is no “one size fits all” because despite being fundamentally “the same”, on many levels we are very different and require different amounts of “everything” to function well. Personally I do not do well on grains, they make me lethargic and put on weight but that is just me, find out what works for you. Peace :-)
@@crand20033 millions of people CAN do that and do, but they also react poorly with high blood sugar, insulin spike, then a crash. This is NOT healthy. An inexpensive, easy thing to do is get a glucose monitor, some strips, and test yourself. Many people should be doing this to find out what they're doing to themselves by eating things promoted as "healthy".
It has been suggested that part of the reason our brains got bigger is that our jaws got smaller because they did not require so much room for the giant jaw muscles that are needed to eat raw plants all the time. Our stomach shrank in response to a diet of more nutrient dense food that did not require such long intestines to absorb the overly fibrous nutrients. As a result we had more time on our hands. The average ape spends much of its time searching for food.

A raw vegan grainless diet is most suited for the human anatomy and physiology. Although some of the younger allopaths (PCRM), are vegan, they still are hard on the environment with the demand for fuel in their cooking the enzymes out of their beans and grains. I have been a naturopathic practitioner for 49 years certified as a nutritional consultant, iridologist, acupressure massage therapist, craniosacral therapist and reflexologist. 50 years ago my diet was vegetarian, then vegan a year later, and for the past 20 years a raw grainless vegan diet. I eat mostly local and organically grown produce as well as sprouted nuts and seeds of many sorts. My children 42, 32 and grandchildren-20, 18, and 6-years old are all vegans but not raw, grainless. I have not been ill from anything since I learned from experience that nutritional and lifestyle changes begun at my deathbed, has kept me alive for many decades.
my parents are closing in 90 years old, and they´ve eaten unhealthy food all their lives... and they are healthier than me (vegan).... it´s all in the genes.

Just watched your perfect human diet. I am not here to argue or debate elements of health. I have discovered Dr.William Davis books “super gut”and wheat belly. You seem to be A very intelligent woman , open to changing your conclusions all I will say about Dr. Davis he is a genius and the most well versed authority on the Microbiome history view on grains and wheat, give him a chance to expand your whole paradigm.
I tend to agree only because everyone has different nuances in their body. Each person has a different ancestry and blood type. Those things needs to be taken into account.

Eg; salmon might be an ideal food nutritionally etc - BUT modern salmon by and large is fed on grains in large ponds. Which is high in omega 6 not 3, and probably filled with toxins. All well and good to say - eat organic - but its not possible for everyone on the planet to do so. SOme ppl do really well on high protein low carb diets, some the reverse - and others with small amounts of everything. Ive spent over 32 years studying nutrition on individuals, populations and historical context of nutrition and foods - and if it was this simple - doctors would be out of a job. I did resent her simplistic presentation - more matter les art is what i kept on wanting to say.
Pointing out that farm-raised salmon is not as healthy as wild-caught is no great revelation. In fact it fits into the food model she is espousing; eating foods that are grown or raised naturally. Her talk wasn’t perfect but not for any of the reasons you raise. TED talks are limited to less than 20 minutes. Her advice for the most part was to avoid processed foods as much as possible. I thought your line about oversimplifying dietary goals putting doctors out of business was rather interesting.
All I know, for me, is that as long as I can get everything I need from a plant based diet, I'm in. No animal products for me... and my food is delicious. All my tests are better than ever, and I maintain a large weight loss. Be healthy, everyone.
@@tilapiadave3234 We are ’meant to’ be able to eat a wide variety of foods at times of need, but for longevity and health slowly processed plant based whole foods are much more natural and less detrimental to our gut society and planet than an animal diet. Plus animals deserve to live free just as you and I.

the biggest hindrance to health is stress associated with worrying about what you eat...as well as the additional economic strain of eating bio foods and supplements..the stress outweighs the benefits..a normal balanced diet is optimal even though it is known that the food today is not as nutritionally rich as food a century ago..
Everything this good doctor says is true. You want to hear her out. I know because I have been doing the same after getting well from eating the ideal diet she recommends. I am cured too, of my life-threatening illness.
Our bodies don’t even processes or use fiber....so a plant you eat you use 20% but if you eat meat you use 80%.... what sounds like the item that our bodies use???
Its possible that the 20% has an important process to cleanse and restore ....absorbing too much Vit A in meat is deadly but making vit A from lets say carrots is determined by body
@@lastlime3792 there are ten times as many bacteria and yeast cells living in our body than we have cells in our body. These require fiber and we require these bacteria and yeasts to survive. We are symbiotic with them and they keep our gut and immune systems healthy. So I guess there's that.

First of all, I want to thank everyone who left a comment, whether a positive comment or a negative comment, thank you for taking the time to write. I want to clear some issues about my talk. (1) I understand that my talk causes discomfort to many people because of the evolution aspect of it. Personally, I am a believer, yet I still have no problem examining the science and understanding evolution. Some people change throughout their lives; they are not the same people as they were 10 or 15 years earlier; this is evolution, which is a natural part of the advancement of a species. There is no need to fear it. (2) Regarding the slides, I am sorry that my slides were not available throughout my talk as this would’ve cleared much of the confusion regarding the diet. The slides are available on The Guerrilla Diet website and should clear all the confusion regarding the ideal diet for humans. (3) I understand that food is a very emotional issue for most people, and I know that many people and companies earn their living from industries that are in contradiction with this diet, but this does not change what the statistics and research show about the ideal diet for our species. Of course, everyone has free will to eat what they like, but every choice has a price tag on it. Every decision that you make has a consequence, and if you prefer health, then you must make the proper dietary choices for our species. Furthermore, everybody’s dietary habits influence not only their personal health but also the world around us, which is why it is vital that we make the change together. Just watched a video of a lady who has been following a carnivore diet for the last 13 years. She looks just as healthy and slim as you. Perhaps we are not all the same.
I will say, you have to have the balance between food choices. Carnivorous animals are not designed for plant based diets and vice versa. A friend had sent me a joke, 2 of the biggest and heaviest land animals are herbivores. We forget the amount of physical activity our ancestors used to do before criticizing their diet choices. Also, the issue which every nutritionist forgets during their talks and selling millions of books is the industrialized food creation. As well as the medical industry that gains a direct advantage from it. No wonder we are getting fatter, lazier and unhealthier. And for argument's sake, let's say we should all become herbivores, what about the genetic mutations of almost all seeds, where will they take us?
My two great grandmothers, born 1896 and 1900 lived into their 80s and my grandmother is currently a healthy 93. Ancestry is from all over to include Blackfoot Native Americans and European settlers. Their diet was/is unprocessed but with meat, butter, and very little grains. They also ate very little when they did/do eat. The average restaurant meal for them would be more than a days worth of calories. I'm not arguing with your findings, but I am saying maybe it isn't the bible of nutrition it's purported to be.
My Grandma is 97 and while moving very slowly, she has spent a life eating buttery foods and lots of meat. She still eats this way every day. That said, I've seen people drop their cholesterol numbers about a hundred points with whole food/plant based, so it does seem to have some merit.
Hm... seems like she is arguing to prove a point, so the talk is fairly biased... what about the fact that when humans started doing agriculture, average height decreased, average life expectancy decreased, incidence of caries increased etc. I would expect any scientist/doctor to argue for a balanced, mixed diet above all.
Life expectancy increased and the life expectancy of modern hunter and gatherer tribes, especially the ones that rely on heavily hunting have very low life expectancies.
Great talk. I wish she had more time to give clear details about exactly what to eat. Giving generalized information makes it a little unclear about exactly what to eat. What percentage of each category is recommended with what type of ratio of animal protein versus plant based foods.

Yeah, cassava originated in the Amazon basin and was taken to Africa by Portuguese traders. Sweet potatoes are native from South America (how did it get to Okinawa is anyone's guess, but my bet still with the Portuguese, but maybe the Polynesian) She's totally delusional about tubers being available in the savanna. Savana is grass and a few trees. There's hundreds of herd animals eating that grass (adapted herbivores with long digestive tracts and symbiosis with bacteria that can digest cellulose) and carnivores that eat those herbivores. If humans had not learned to hunt, they would have nothing but grass to eat.

Kefir Is Low in Lactose The lactic acid bacteria in fermented dairy foods - like kefir and yogurt - turn the lactose into lactic acid, so these foods are much lower in lactose than milk.
For me, the secret is not the Keto Diet, or the Paleo Diet, or any other fad diet. The key is keeping my calories low for weight loss. And for me, it took a drastic mental change. I stopped viewing food as something to be enjoyed and started viewing it as simply fuel. I stopped eating stuff that tasted good and looked for foods that were almost tasteless. I haven't eaten at a restaurant for over two years. My wife doesn't like it, but she's learned to accept it.
I think that's really a wise way to live. If you stop eating really savory food, you loose your cravings. You can't trust restaurants. They put the lowest quality ingredients in their food - even more classy restaurants. Plus, you over eat!
I don't doubt her story or her knowledge but I had to stop listening when she implied she had cured from cancer only with her diet. Apart from that, I find it strange that she forgot to mention that northern european humans actually evovled to be able to digest lactose and that mutation spread (realtively) quickly through all europe, more or less at the same time and the same speed that the mutation which "created" white skin, that points out that those mutations were a huge evolutionary advantage.
This is why all babies need to be breastfed. No one talks about how important this is. There is a biofeedback loop between baby’s saliva and mother’s milk ducts. Baby tells mom what nutrients she needs to eat during each feeding.

Amazing how much prejudice there is against a vegan diet. I notice many of the objectors are from India, where I live. India is still "progressing" towards the Western lifestyle and dietary choices. So this means, for many, meat and processed foods. In general, middle-class Indians have poor health, are overweight and suffer from diabetes.
This is not true. The evidence shows that the Indians with the worst health and shortest lifespans are vegetarians. Many are very close to vegan. They now drink soda instead of lassi, buy western-style white bread instead of making traditional flatbreads, and use vegetable oil instead of ghee. All the foods harming their health are plant-sourced.

I wish I could give you 1000 thumbs up. I'm very disappointed in this (and so many other) "presentation". I watch these right and left and some people say we only started eating grains when farming began and it wasn't part of our natural diet so eat meat. And then the vegans say, don't eat meat, eat grains. I've deduced I can only live a healthy life if I just drink filtered water and eat air. (sarcasm off). After seeing all these people with great credentials from good schools, preaching the opposite of each other, I've decided to limit my diet to M&M's. With nuts, of course!

Probably stick to whole foods, minimally processed. Most people didn't arrive at this unhealthy stage of life by eating, whole, minimally processed food. Eating processed food, drinking sugary drinks, and over consumption of these foods has caused the health crisis we have today.
lol We are all looking for answers to the ongoing crappiness of life, living well, and putting off death for as long as possible. There are a LOT of contradictory messages. Some fueled by greed, others by an honest search for truth, and so many other motives. How can we ever know where exactly someone is coming from or what motivates them? Once we do find these 1 in a million persons it is likely others are listening to them as well. But not everyone with thousands of followers, a tv show, and a twitter account equate to a proof positive that they are wise. Most people are wrong most of the time, I believe is an accurate saying. There is a lot of information out there and quite simply sometimes you press through and make your own food decision, such as "m&ms." The fact in the end is sweat the diet question but there is no end all be all answer to life. Live is complex and messy and a bane to master all at once. Live as well as possible while searching for more accurate truths to live better by, that's how I roll when I'm rolling well.
The truth is that the more we distance from human nature, the most we suffer the consequences. This lady is so right. Great video.

She is a bit off. First off we didn't evolve from apes. There are five types of humanoids that have been discovered. And most importantly the structural part of the brain is 60% DHA. EPA is our greatest natural anti-inflammatory along with sulfur second. Which tends to suggest that we did not evolve on the Savannah plains.
According to this lady we used to be monkeys, in which case we can evolve in whichever direction our "food" takes us. So perhaps that evolutionary premise is wrong.
I still recommend that people that are interested in diet and "What should I eat", go take about 2 hours of a non stop presentation in You Tube by the late Nicholas Gonzalez, "What should I eat"? that was presented in 2010. For everyone that thinks they have to be a Vegan, Vegetarian, follow paleo, keto, Atkins, South Beach, Ornish, Pritikin, Oprah, and a thousand other diets, please take the time to listen to him. After all these talks and docs about nutrition, I came to a conclusion; eat anything you like that isn't processed but nothing in excess. You can eat ice cream, if you make it yourself with natural ingredients. It's a lot of work so you're not likely to make it often so it becomes a treat but if it's on the shelf at the local store, that's when it becomes an excess.

Exercise- run 4-5 miles daily - don’t jog. No sugar, no alcohol, no processed foods. Follow 16 hour fasting and 8 hour eating regimen. Relieve stress, sleep 8-9 hours !!! That’s it.

One topic that I have never seen much information on is whether the depleted soils we grow our food in really have the levels of nutrition we expect. After a while, the fertilizer makes the plants manufacture starch---and not much else. Anyone else think this might be a part of the obesity epidemic in US. My community has been growing its own food and optimizing the soil for a few years now. I have come to feel a huge difference between our produce and that which comes from non-optimized soil. It tastes and feels emptier and I need more to satiate me. I tested it time and time again and always came to the same result. The same goes for our own meat and dairy compared to industrial products.
Yes, all the natural microbes in the soil; that produce various substances for plants to absorb; are being destroyed by using unnatural fertilizers, and poisonous herbicides and pesticides.

Just take the positive side of the message: this woman had difficult times, worked hard and studied to overcome her problems. That sounds real stuff for me. And regarding diet, try what is best for you and move on!
But please her human history timeframe is off the chart completely. All timeframes given are wrong.
i'm with you on the judging, but she takes an anecdote and bends not just dietary science, but all the science around it to make it make sense.

I've resolved so many problems on carnivore. Sugar was part of my problem. Sugar is in nearly everything. Fake sugar was also a part of my problem. So cutting everything else out and eating high quality meat has made me healthier than I have been in years. Dr. Ken Berry, on UA-cam, presents it very well. Plants have chemicals that are intended to protect them. Animals have teeth and claws. This the animal based food is less inflammatory than plant based food. Good luck. Whatever you do, don't stop trying to learn and improve!

I’ve been watching many videos on dietary issues and solutions, and I find it a bit interesting that people who focused on Keto and carnivore diet actually talk about what happens in the body while most vegans and vegetarians and plant based diet people talk about the world and statistics instead of the chemistry that actually happens in your body when you consume the things you consume

The beautiful part of this talk is, it is personal experience. Quite often in modern science we try to establish the idea that "one size fits all". People continue to follow practices which everyone involve in. It is just matter of time, before world evolves to learn and identify what is right for individual body. We cannot force everyone to believe. Healthy skepticism is good, but outright discarding information is not science. Tailored diet for our genetic pool, and introducing necessary food for desired outcome, beyond, purified drug molecules will be the Future.

Humans will adapt to any diet, but many will die before we adapt. Also, we are an evolutionary anachronism. We evolved to a time when we hunted and gathered (we did that for 100,000 years) and most recently we became sedentary and haven't completely adapted.
we cant adapt to the bad carbs, GMOs and hormone filled meat. something bad will happen before. with this kind of behavior driven by profit for the few. we are doomed unless there is a great awakening to the problem. still, I cant believe i did not understand this 20 years ago.
My ideal food plan is the well-balanced Meditarranean Diet. I got sick twice in a month going 'Plant-Based' and I also followed advice in taking Vitamin and Protein supplements before you ask!!..... Eating meat again made me better. So a balance of fruit, veggies, nuts, seeds, and quality fish and meats is MY way to go. I've also felt better in avoiding dairy, unhealthy sugar and products made with gluten.
I must have been reading the wrong books all my life. I thought carrots, onions ect where a product of agriculture rather than just randomly found in the Savannah (or anywhere else for that matter). You could only find inedible wild berries and perhaps some mushroom in nature. Therefore the diet was more likely to be fish and meat back then!

Nomads in Mongolia generally have very strong bone and fit, the main diet is meat from the grass fed, free roaming animals. Also they never eat more than twice a day which are meat soup or boiled meat and a cup of tea.

My great grand parents and the older 100+ y/o generation people are mainly meat eaters. But we eat farm raised, grass fed meat. And we are also from the mountains, uphill both ways, low oxygen.

Ayurveda believes that the ideal diet varies for 3 types of personality types: Vaata, Kapha and Pitta. I am an asthmatic which automatically makes me a Kapha. (Prone to excess mucus - Kapha = Cough) The dietary recommendations for Kapha suit me perfectly.
An overall good presentation but with many inaccuracies. It is somehow based on prehistorical facts but it disregards the fact that animal breeding came in before agriculture for example. Animals were needed as they were a food bank, a guarantee for survival. Also inaccurate on the dairy civilization in northern Europe, they maintain the ability to drink milk their whole life, while the rest of the world does not.

I am 55, South European ancestry and have been unable to drink milk and yogurt for the most part of my life, until a few years ago, I discovered that lactose free milk solved my problem, and I started making my own yogurt with lactose free milk. So that's my experience, but I am not saying that it should work for everyone, we are all different, that's why we are called individuals.Maybe you can try if you haven''t yet.
I'm not Northern European. My genetics are mostly Southern European/Mediterranean and Amerindian. And I drink milk almost every day. Not a problem whatsoever.

Sorry, but the "ideal" diet for humans is the one that works for them. After years of "conventional wisdom" on salads, I discovered I'm highly sensitive to insoluble fiber. You have to find what works best for you, but cleverly, getting your micro / macro nutrients from any source that works best. And - NO added sugars of any kind.

Conventional wisdom living on salads ? That might’ve been a thing for a moment in the 60’s or 70’s but it’s been common knowledge what a diet heavy on salads will do to your digestive system.
Calories matters, especially it comes to people talking about why they gain weight on certain foods. Any food will make u gain weight. You won’t gain weight on potatoes and legumes if you eat within your caloric daily intake. I’ve eaten horrible fatty junk food in my caloric range for some times and never gained weight. People expect to go vegan and lose weight yet eat SO MANY calories. Almond butter, nuts, oil etc are all healthy but eat too much you will gain. calories matter. and healthy food. Not in excess.
I lived with australian aboriginals. They ate mostly meat and lived to over 100 . Well thats before they had acess to a store with junk food.

Wow, you've given a dangerous talk here. I knew a young cancer sufferer personally who may have survived if she had have continued radiation therapy treatment instead of relying on a diet. Talks which lead people to make decisions against the consensus of the scientific community should be taken with a wholegrain of salt.
So you think poison is the answer?? One of the foundational reasons why the scientific data is inaccurate on chemo and radiation is what is called the 5-year survival rate.
So if you live 5 years and one day after you're diagnosis date you are considered saved" from cancer that that was a success.
We do not evaluate a treatment based on this principle for any other disease but cancer.
Thyroid cancer, too, is one of the most survivable cancers. Just because thyroid cancer can be survived without radiation does not mean more aggressive cancers can, too. The five-year survival rate of thyroid cancer (which I believe is what she had - correct me if I'm wrong ) is 99%. Ovarian cancer is 75% and pancreatic cancer is 11%. There's a big difference in how much you want to mess around with those, and I'm one (with thyroid disease) who always tries to deal with stuff first by using diet as treatment. If I ever end up with something bad, I will consider all my options.
Chuck and taekwonmo. A 10 year survival rate can be found on the Australian Cancer Government page showing less than 4% variation from 5 year. I do not see a 4% fluctuation as enough to raise suspicion. Please do your research, and don’t rely on activated almonds when your life, or the life of a loved one is on the line.
@@andrew.colbeck I was agreeing with you. All I'm saying is that thyroid cancer (which I think is what she had) is extremely survivable, even if it's not treated at all. My endo actually told me that if you have to have cancer, thyroid cancer is the one to get, because so few people die of it. The radiation is there pretty much to wipe out the thyroid to make sure the thyroid doesn't grow back tissue after it's taken out. So surviving this type of cancer, with or without radiation, is not unusual. And it's terrible to assume that just because a thyroid cancer survivor didn't get radiation, others with more malignant cancers can do the same.
Not that I'm not thrilled for her that she is surviving and thriving, mind you. I'm very happy that she found her health, no matter how she found it.
in my experience the best diet is the masai diet. the masai only live on foods from cows--milk, cream, beef, and they also extract blood from the cows and drink it without killing the cows.
they do have one rule about food mixing--"if a man eats meat and drinks milk on the same day, he is a glutton"

What I've realised is that everyone is individual when it comes to their diet. Some people struggle to digest meat, some struggle with fibre, and then you have people who can't eat nightshades, and a big percentage who are gluten and lactose intolerant. There are lots of different reasons for this. I know some of the GMO grown crops like peanuts have been directly linked to why some folks suffer severe allergies. There is also the chemicals we spray on plants and also things like grain fed animals that are contributing to the inflammation we are having. Toxic levels of heavy metals in certain marine species. Mankind messes around with nature too much. Whole, organic, tamper-free food seems to be the way forward, be it animals or plants. Vegans are more prone to deficiencies, especially in zinc, iron and b12. Also there is not one single study worldwide, that proves consuming organic, grass-fed meat contributes to ill-health. The same goes for pasture-raised, organic eggs. People who eat more natural fats are satiated longer, leading to less hunger cravings/vitamin deficiencies. I've studied food for quite a while now, and I'm certain high consumption of grains and sugar is inflammatory, even the wholegrains spike blood sugars hugely. The lady doesn't mention ketones once, and that her choices on food are greener, more environment friendly orientated. This immediately heightens my suspicions on the narrative they are pushing for the green agenda. This basically stems down from the World Economic Forum - a bunch of anti-humane oligarchs who have their communistic finger in every pie. Their lobbying, propaganda and 'philanthropy' have reached insane levels, and only those with their morals intact that can resist the monetary gains to be had, are creditable sources of information. She is either a shill for the narrative, or vastly under-researched.
Is that also the case for lions? For example, do some lions need to eat mostly grass and some mostly meat? How about cows, goats, horses, pandas, etc?
Why is it that only humans have such amazing variance between members of the species?
The reality is that there is one single human diet. What do we like raw? That is our natural diet. Fruits mostly, but to a lesser extend also tender leafs, tender vegetables, nuts, seeds, honey, and herbs. If you can consume it raw, then you can digest the food using just your body. Clearly the food is natural to you if your body comes equipped with everything that is needed to digest the food.
Cooking is the artificial predigesting of foods. You only need to cook foods which your body cannot digest on it's own. If you need to cook food then it is not your natural diet. Cooking works for any mammal, it is how we feed cats beans and grains. Why do we need to cook it for cats? Because it is not their natural diet. We would not have to cook the grains for e.g. a horse. They can eat it raw. Using cooking to consume unhealthy foods which we lack the natural means to fully digest is not unique to humans, it works on our pets as well and it even works on many wild animals that live near humans.
So all humans have the same natural diet. The reason why some people need certain bad foods which other people cannot stand is the same as for why some people are addicted to smoking while other people cannot stand smoking. Some people become addicted to bad foods and have their body become numb to the acute warning signals that more sensitive people would experience.
Just lay off breads,
flour of any kind!
Lay off sugar …

And get PLENTY of active exercise , sunshine, and lots of restful sleep, and you’ll be fine!👍❤️

Galit Goldfarb addresses good points, even though I don't like the bible reference in the ending. She stresses the similarity among all humans, but it kinda feels like she's got a blind spot for the microbiome there. Enlightening skip to Kwashiorkor disease though. There are mistakes in history made on a big scale, also nutrition wise, we can learn from. Her note on healing herself of cancer through diet leaves me amazed and baffled. Very interesting and honest is her story about opening a health and weight loss clinic and closing it again, due to doubts on her knowledge. I respect her for that. It also humbles our recent knowledge, the state of the art is what it is - always transitory. Kinda makes me smile that what was her big result of research after closing down, now is just average baseline knowledge in 2024. It makes me wonder what she was teaching in her clinic beforehand. It also reminds me, as just said, that what nowadays is being told about nutrition most likely is not final.

The point most of them fail to address is that everyone is different with different microbiomes
Thus one size does not fit all. In a nutshell you need to get a blood sugar level meter and record YOUR personal response from different foods. One diet does not fit for everyone

Eating whole food plant based is the generally accepted died for health in 2019, she's preaching to the choir, almost anyone who cares about what they eat, eats this way now.

From what I’ve learned there is no “one size fits all” because despite being fundamentally “the same”, on many levels we are very different and require different amounts of “everything” to function well. Personally I do not do well on grains, they make me lethargic and put on weight but that is just me, find out what works for you. Peace :-)

An inexpensive, easy thing to do is get a glucose monitor, some strips, and test yourself. Many people should be doing this to find out what they're doing to themselves by eating things promoted as "healthy".
It has been suggested that part of the reason our brains got bigger is that our jaws got smaller because they did not require so much room for the giant jaw muscles that are needed to eat raw plants all the time. Our stomach shrank in response to a diet of more nutrient dense food that did not require such long intestines to absorb the overly fibrous nutrients. As a result we had more time on our hands. The average ape spends much of its time searching for food.

A raw vegan grainless diet is most suited for the human anatomy and physiology. Although some of the younger allopaths (PCRM), are vegan, they still are hard on the environment with the demand for fuel in their cooking the enzymes out of their beans and grains. I have been a naturopathic practitioner for 49 years certified as a nutritional consultant, iridologist, acupressure massage therapist, craniosacral therapist and reflexologist. 50 years ago my diet was vegetarian, then vegan a year later, and for the past 20 years a raw grainless vegan diet. I eat mostly local and organically grown produce as well as sprouted nuts and seeds of many sorts. My children 42, 32 and grandchildren-20, 18, and 6-years old are all vegans but not raw, grainless. I have not been ill from anything since I learned from experience that nutritional and lifestyle changes begun at my deathbed, has kept me alive for many decades.

Just watched your perfect human diet. I am not here to argue or debate elements of health. I have discovered Dr.William Davis books “super gut”and wheat belly. You seem to be A very intelligent woman , open to changing your conclusions all I will say about Dr. Davis he is a genius and the most well versed authority on the Microbiome history view on grains and wheat, give him a chance to expand your whole paradigm.
This woman is a great example of how its possible to be so right, but at the same time...so very very wrong.

I tend to agree only because everyone has different nuances in their body. Each person has a different ancestry and blood type. Those things needs to be taken into account.

Eg; salmon might be an ideal food nutritionally etc - BUT modern salmon by and large is fed on grains in large ponds. Which is high in omega 6 not 3, and probably filled with toxins. All well and good to say - eat organic - but its not possible for everyone on the planet to do so. SOme ppl do really well on high protein low carb diets, some the reverse - and others with small amounts of everything. Ive spent over 32 years studying nutrition on individuals, populations and historical context of nutrition and foods - and if it was this simple - doctors would be out of a job. I did resent her simplistic presentation - more matter les art is what i kept on wanting to say.
Pointing out that farm-raised salmon is not as healthy as wild-caught is no great revelation. In fact it fits into the food model she is espousing; eating foods that are grown or raised naturally. Her talk wasn’t perfect but not for any of the reasons you raise. TED talks are limited to less than 20 minutes. Her advice for the most part was to avoid processed foods as much as possible. I thought your line about oversimplifying dietary goals putting doctors out of business was rather interesting.
I believe we can do a lot better to our diet ,ultimately our health.
All I know, for me, is that as long as I can get everything I need from a plant based diet, I'm in. No animal products for me... and my food is delicious. All my tests are better than ever, and I maintain a large weight loss. Be healthy, everyone.

(1) I understand that my talk causes discomfort to many people because of the evolution aspect of it. Personally, I am a believer, yet I still have no problem examining the science and understanding evolution. Some people change throughout their lives; they are not the same people as they were 10 or 15 years earlier; this is evolution, which is a natural part of the advancement of a species. There is no need to fear it.
(2) Regarding the slides, I am sorry that my slides were not available throughout my talk as this would’ve cleared much of the confusion regarding the diet. The slides are available on The Guerrilla Diet website and should clear all the confusion regarding the ideal diet for humans.
(3) I understand that food is a very emotional issue for most people, and I know that many people and companies earn their living from industries that are in contradiction with this diet, but this does not change what the statistics and research show about the ideal diet for our species. Of course, everyone has free will to eat what they like, but every choice has a price tag on it. Every decision that you make has a consequence, and if you prefer health, then you must make the proper dietary choices for our species.
Furthermore, everybody’s dietary habits influence not only their personal health but also the world around us, which is why it is vital that we make the change together. Check out my talk at the UN found on my UA-cam channel to learn more on this subject.
(4) For those of you thinking that this Ted talk is more like an ad, I genuinely hope that it will continue to advertise our ideal diet for the sake of humanity. As an entrepreneur, I actually make my living from my other business which has allowed me to do this research at my own expense, and in a very unbiased way, since I did not need outside funding. As you heard, I wanted to heal myself and my family from disease, which pushed me to seek answers.

@@GalitGoldfarb if grains were our ideal diet then why did they cause cavities and rot our teeth away? apparently skulls found before the consumption of grains had perfect teeth but once we started eating grains our teeth fell apart, also grains are kinda low in nutrients, its basically impossible to get enough iodine, selenium, zinc etc from eating a caloricly restricted simple plant based diet, i checked with cronometer and the rda/rdi, adding fish or shell fish fixes all these issues including vitamin b12 and helps with vitamin d

I believe that slaves building the pyramids were kept in good health on grains, garlic & onions. It is documented that coca grew there too....not only in Sth America. I know that the Egyptians stored large quantities of grain and owned cats to keep the mice and rats at bay. Weren`t many of the Pharaohs laid to rest with grains and dried fruit ? I understand that some seed was still viable after more than 3000 years.
I once rubbed shoulders with the consultant surgeon, large chap, who performed a biopsy on `Pete Marsh`, the ancient Cheshire bog man. Seem to remember that Pete`s gut contained grains....not man-modified bovine, smoked concentration-camp-bred porcine, 29-day-reared synthetic-bred chook or mechanically-recovered hamburger meat.

Not really, it's just one opinion. Are you new to the food dilemma?
Just watched a video of a lady who has been following a carnivore diet for the last 13 years. She looks just as healthy and slim as you. Perhaps we are not all the same.
I will say, you have to have the balance between food choices. Carnivorous animals are not designed for plant based diets and vice versa. A friend had sent me a joke, 2 of the biggest and heaviest land animals are herbivores. We forget the amount of physical activity our ancestors used to do before criticizing their diet choices. Also, the issue which every nutritionist forgets during their talks and selling millions of books is the industrialized food creation. As well as the medical industry that gains a direct advantage from it. No wonder we are getting fatter, lazier and unhealthier. And for argument's sake, let's say we should all become herbivores, what about the genetic mutations of almost all seeds, where will they take us?
My two great grandmothers, born 1896 and 1900 lived into their 80s and my grandmother is currently a healthy 93. Ancestry is from all over to include Blackfoot Native Americans and European settlers. Their diet was/is unprocessed but with meat, butter, and very little grains. They also ate very little when they did/do eat. The average restaurant meal for them would be more than a days worth of calories. I'm not arguing with your findings, but I am saying maybe it isn't the bible of nutrition it's purported to be.
My Grandma is 97 and while moving very slowly, she has spent a life eating buttery foods and lots of meat. She still eats this way every day. That said, I've seen people drop their cholesterol numbers about a hundred points with whole food/plant based, so it does seem to have some merit.
Hm... seems like she is arguing to prove a point, so the talk is fairly biased... what about the fact that when humans started doing agriculture, average height decreased, average life expectancy decreased, incidence of caries increased etc. I would expect any scientist/doctor to argue for a balanced, mixed diet above all.

Great talk. I wish she had more time to give clear details about exactly what to eat. Giving generalized information makes it a little unclear about exactly what to eat. What percentage of each category is recommended with what type of ratio of animal protein versus plant based foods.

Yeah, cassava originated in the Amazon basin and was taken to Africa by Portuguese traders. Sweet potatoes are native from South America (how did it get to Okinawa is anyone's guess, but my bet still with the Portuguese, but maybe the Polynesian)
She's totally delusional about tubers being available in the savanna. Savana is grass and a few trees. There's hundreds of herd animals eating that grass (adapted herbivores with long digestive tracts and symbiosis with bacteria that can digest cellulose) and carnivores that eat those herbivores.
If humans had not learned to hunt, they would have nothing but grass to eat.

For me, the secret is not the Keto Diet, or the Paleo Diet, or any other fad diet.
The key is keeping my calories low for weight loss.
And for me, it took a drastic mental change.
I stopped viewing food as something to be enjoyed and started viewing it as simply fuel. I stopped eating stuff that tasted good and looked for foods that were almost tasteless. I haven't eaten at a restaurant for over two years.
My wife doesn't like it, but she's learned to accept it.
I think that's really a wise way to live. If you stop eating really savory food, you loose your cravings. You can't trust restaurants. They put the lowest quality ingredients in their food - even more classy restaurants. Plus, you over eat!
I don't doubt her story or her knowledge but I had to stop listening when she implied she had cured from cancer only with her diet. Apart from that, I find it strange that she forgot to mention that northern european humans actually evovled to be able to digest lactose and that mutation spread (realtively) quickly through all europe, more or less at the same time and the same speed that the mutation which "created" white skin, that points out that those mutations were a huge evolutionary advantage.
White skin is recent and came to Europe via Indo European herders and Middle Eastern agriculturists.
This is why all babies need to be breastfed. No one talks about how important this is. There is a biofeedback loop between baby’s saliva and mother’s milk ducts. Baby tells mom what nutrients she needs to eat during each feeding.
You mean to tell me they could gather enough grain in the wild to survive? I find that sounding a little impossible. Would love to hear the research on that.
Grain means the seeds of monocots (grasses). Does not seem impossible to gather if you are there at the right time.

Amazing how much prejudice there is against a vegan diet. I notice many of the objectors are from India, where I live. India is still "progressing" towards the Western lifestyle and dietary choices. So this means, for many, meat and processed foods. In general, middle-class Indians have poor health, are overweight and suffer from diabetes.
This is not true. The evidence shows that the Indians with the worst health and shortest lifespans are vegetarians. Many are very close to vegan. They now drink soda instead of lassi, buy western-style white bread instead of making traditional flatbreads, and use vegetable oil instead of ghee. All the foods harming their health are plant-sourced.
@@SuzanneU, being Indian myself it's not vegetarian food which is unhealthy... Its d way people have turned the food into unhealthy one.... Being a vegetarian for all those 29 yrs of my life I don't have health issue I eat traditional Indian food with ghee n um totally fyn .... Its not vegetarian food which is bad its people intake on frys n sugar n salt in excess...
