Hey guys! This is Matt Urtu here (the Narrator and camera guy for the video😂 ) Thanks for all the views and comments guys! Noah and I just made this for his senior “how to” project (hence the music) and we uploaded this to UA-cam bc we didn’t have a flash drive to put it on, lol. We never thought it would take off like this 😂 For anyone watching this video who is interested in trying track, I can honestly say that track was the best time of both of our lives, no doubt!!! Noah is actually still running in track in college for Biola university. Anyways thanks for the corrections/suggestions in the comments, and we’re glad you enjoyed the video! :)
You gotta make sure your feet on completely against the blocks and there is no gap from ur heels to the blocks, because as you can see in your video, your foot went backwards into the block then you pushed forward when driving out of the blocks. But if your foot were completely against the block and there were no gap, it’ll shave time off your race and you’ll get out the blocks faster :)
4:23 I have a question. If you slow it down you can see your back leg (or the leg you fully extend) is way up high when you take your first step with that leg. I watch olympic sprinters and their leg/foot is always near the ground and I’m assuming it’s to quickly get their next turnover in. I know some olympic sprinters like Asafa Powell has toe drag but I’ve never experimented with that and I don’t want to. Is there an exercise or an easier way to keep that second leg close to the ground? If anyone doesn’t understand I’ll happily upload a video to show what I’m talking about. Thank you!
Buddy when you are on the blocks or when you are doin short distance dashes focus your mind on lowering the second leg and performing the toe drag.If you do it a lot of times and for a long time period your body will automatically lower your second leg and you will be able to perform the toe drag. Also you must imagine your self doing it.

Since I saw only praise in the comments… this start is far from perfect. His shin angle is too high when he is at “triple extension.” You can see that he doesn’t quite get to triple extension but was close to it. Don’t round the shoulders when coming out of the blocks. Upper body should be at a 45 degree angle almost in a straight line with your back leg during triple extension. The angle of his front shin when in the blocks is also too high. It seems like he leads with his foot and almost lunges out of the blocks. You want to lead with your hips and not try to lunge out. If someone wants me to provide more info or tips or a good video I would be more than happy to help just reply to my comment.
keep it going...any discussion about technique is useful to many people who maybe are shy or whatever the reasons. So, for beginners, how do you determine which foot is your back foot and which foot is your front foot? I was instructed to imagine a big kick with a soccer ball...the leg you would kick is the leg that goes back...however, I also have heard that your power leg should be forward to drive and your speed leg should be back to get out fast. What's your take? the more details the better because this is great stuff! Thank you

Hey! I’m just starting track soon, I noticed the runners right foot was not fully touching the block until he pushed off. Is this regular protocol for sprinters, or just a personal tendency?
