Strength Training Workout for Seniors & Beginners // Full Body all Standing w/ 1 Dumbbell

- Опубліковано 29 вер 2024
- Thank you for joining me for this great full body strength training workout. After a nice dynamic warm up we will perform compound exercises for 60 seconds, then rest for 15 seconds. There is a timer for each exercise so you are able to go at your own pace.
I'm using one 8 pound dumbbell in this workout. Please use whatever weight you have and are comfortable with. If you are unsure, new to working out, or new to my channel, then please use a lighter weight such as 3 or 5 pounds. You will still get a great workout!
There are a few exercises that have modifications if you have osteoporosis or spinal health ailments. Please keep an eye out for the modification boxes that will pop up on the screen. These modifications allow you to move safely with bending or twisting your spine.
I hope you enjoyed this workout! Please let me know what you think in the comments. I love hearing from my viewers!

Just had to comment again on what a wonderful workout you put together. I am so happy to find you really seem to understand the aging body. I have always tried to stay fit. It’s so hard to accept that we do develop limitations but you arrange the moves that feel safe yet challenging for me. Thanks so much Lauren. Really find you demeanor so calm and encouraging. 😊
Thank you so much! I appreciate your kind feedback and I'm thrilled that you are enjoying my workouts Peter :) I created this channel exactly for viewers such as yourself.
Isn’t she though!!!
Me three👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
@@indoorsygirl5490 me 4!!!
5!
I have always been into fitness. Unfortunately, I developed some problems lifting weights when I hit my late fifties. Recently I came across your channel and decided to try lifting weights again. So far I am okay. I just have to keep reminding myself that I can't go heavy on the weights anymore. If not for your channel, I don't think I would be lifting at all. You put together wonderful classes and I am truly grateful to have found you.
Thank you so much! I'm grateful you found me as well, keep up the good work :)
Complete delight! At 77 years old I am a ballerina! There were fears that I wouldn’t be able to cope, but everything worked out! And since all the movements were completely new, the brain also enjoyed exercising. That’s how I met Barre! Thank you so much to the wonderful and talented coach Lauren!
Yay! love to hear this!!! You are most welcome :)
Loved this unique workout today!
I really had a lot of fun and the time flew by!
Thanks for the smile and sweaty strength ❤
Awesome! I just filmed a cardio version of this, and it flew by as well :)
I'm glad I did this because I was feeling tired and unmotivated. Feeling much better now. 🙂
Excellent! Isn’t is awesome that working out makes us feel better,?!? 💜
@@SeniorShapeFitness yes for sure- thank you Lauren.
Love the inventive moves Lauren. Thank you for putting htese great workouts together!
So glad you loved it Fran! You are most welcome :)
Love this as I need to put myself on the priority list again. I teach senior fitness but recently noticed that, well, I’m a senior as well!! Needed an effective total body workout with modifications, this was great and Lauren threw in a few exercises I’d never seen before!! I tried her chair yoga yesterday after coming across it on UA-cam, I look forward to working out more with her here!
That's great! It means a lot coming from another instructor too. Thank you!!
Another great workout! I really look forward to checking in on Monday mornings to do your latest workout. It was challenging but doable. Thank you!
yay! Thanks Shawn and happy Monday :)
Love these workouts. I especially like the fact that you only talk about the workout.
Thanks Suzanne :)
Super thanks doesn't work like it used to . Send button is grayed out. Can't send. Why did it change?
That’s weird, I’ll look into it!
Everything looks fine on my end Marlene! I logged in through another account and superthanks was available . I also received a super thanks from another viewer on this video. Maybe check or try again on your end.
Took my laptop outside and exercised in the sunlight. A very satisfying way to start the day!! 81 years old here.
I love that Carleen! All great things for your body :)
Lauren, Your workouts have become part of my daily practices for the last 8 months now. By the way, as I mentioned a while ago, I'm also seriously engaged in writing my book on Aging Pro-Actively. Your exercise routines have the wonderful effect of keeping me balanced, clear and focussed for this daunting task!
Wow.. 81 years young!
Thank you Carleen. Your words just encouraging me who's around half your age to be a better person to myself through Lauren's excercise videos. I've been trying the videos for these couple months and sharing with my peers. Let's have FUN! ❤❤
❤ Life changer! I found your channel 6 weeks ago, made a commitment to get up to 30 minutes a day 5 times a week. I made it plus! Never been a fan of exercise. Don’t like the gym atmosphere, sweating, or pain. I’m 68 and this is the first time in my life I have achieved this goal. I’m teary writing this. Today I did your 5 minute warmup, 10 minute HIIT, and 25 minute standing strength with a dumbbell. I feel so good. A real difference from before SeniorShape. Thank you! I’m so glad I found you.
Wow! you are making me teary too! I'm so proud of you and I'm thrilled that you are enjoying my workouts! Keep up the great work and let me know if you ever need more direction or video recommendations. I'm happy to help!
I am 25 years old but I love your videos. Keep it up. You make me wanna become more active.
Yay! I love to hear that! Thanks Adriana :)
I’m not a senior but I love these exercises!! Awesome 💪🏼
Great to hear! Thanks for working out with me :)
That was awesome! Thank you for workouts that are so good for those of us 60+! Appreciate all that you do❣️
You're so welcome Wanda! I’m thrilled you loved it 💜
Lauren, you are marvellous at producing these structured exercises. Thank you - from a 73 year old Englishman. You are quite exceptional and I have not seen anyone else quite like it. Nice music and very well prepared routine, all of which is quite doable. Your balletic movements and amazing balance is lovely to watch. I am always telling my family and friends about Lauren! I will be back for more excercises tomorrow morning and almost every day thereafter.
Wonderful! Thank you again for your kind comments Martin, I'm thrilled that you are enjoying my workouts! Keep up the good work :)
I felt my body waking up and saying YES!!! Glad I found your channel. The movements and pacing are top notch.
Awesome! Thank you Yolanda!!
Love how you always change things up and bring in new moves. Thank you!
Glad you like them! Thanks Donna :)
Yesterday I tripped over a hidden something in the grass and fell and hurt myself but my husband thinks that because I do your workouts that I didn't injure myself more or break anything. (I am almost 77....) (but feeling like like i'm in my 30's or maybe 40's). Thx Lauren for your work with us seniors.
I'm so glad you didn't get hurt too bad. Sounds like you had a good agility and recovery response! When you are all healed, get back into it and keep up the great work!
Lauren, I just found this awesome workout. This one has all my favs - a timed workout, compound moves, weights, NEW moves. It was fantastic. I loved just the one heavier weight. Can you do more of this, please? Thank you so much. You are as much a part of my morning routine as my green tea, protein smoothie and coffee. 🙂 Deb
I think we have the same diet Deb ;)
So glad you like this workout! Here is a link to another 1 weight workout: ua-cam.com/video/XnxOVq3ktN0/v-deo.html
I also have one that uses 1 REALLY heavy 12 lb weight. And I have 3 kettlebell workouts that all work really well with 1 weight instead of a kettlebell. They are all in the "strength" playlist.
Thanks, Lauren. I'll be sure to give them a try. Happy protein shake. :-) @@SeniorShapeFitness
I particularly love this workout, thank you Lauren. I am 69, very active, but with various health limitations that make some of the high powered workouts on the internet or in the gym unachievable. I particularly like the way you use compound moves, which actually distract from the effort you are really making! 😊
Great Gisela! I'm so glad it's a good workout for you ;)
Lauren, you are a pleasure to work with.
I love standing workouts and dumbbell workouts, so I chose this one. And I really liked her. Thank you very much! Have a good Sunday!
You're so welcome! Glad you like it, and I hope you have a great Sunday as well :)
Thank you Lauren, I absolutely love your workouts and your approach. I find them so varied and beneficial. From Lesley in England, aged 76
You're so welcome! I'm thrilled you are enjoying my workouts Lesley :)
The week's program was completed yesterday, but I can't leave my muscles without motor rest, so I did this very enjoyable workout (my muscles, joints and brain were happy!). Thank you so much Lauren! It's nice to see that the number of subscribers to your channel is growing at a noticeable speed.

❤😊
Wonderful! Thank you 🤩
Great workout!! A little challenge... because my brain is working hard to follow your promps!😅😅😅😅 Thanks!!

You're so welcome! Glad you got a good workout for your brain too :)
Linda clase como nos tienes acostumbrado, dinámica, diversa y productiva. Siento el tiempo volar y el sudor me recuerda que he trabajado duro, muchas gracias...have a nice day....Mario
So glad you like this one too Mario :)
You never think that 1 minute is a long time but when you are doing a workout....it is. I really enjoyed this workout Lauren, thanks.
So glad you enjoyed it Cheryl :)
GM ☀️Thank you for including a modification window! It’s a nice addition for those of us who may need it😊
Good morning! You are most welcome Norma, I'm glad it is helpful to you :)
Every move you do just feels so right, including the dynamic stretches. Just loving these workouts.
So glad! That's really nice to hear. Thank you :)
I absolutely love the exercises you come up with! I appreciate the modified version with this, because I can't twist my back. Thank you so much Lauren, you keep us motivated!💚
You're so welcome Cindy! I appreciate your support 💜
The seated stretchy band workout had been my favorite but this video just took its place. This is challenging for me
but I really felt I did my body some good when it was over. I have a recumbent bike at home so I began with 10 minutes of cycling and then dove into this. I loved it-oh, and thank you for the modifications. They were a great help.
Excellent! I love that you threw a little cardio in before this too. Thanks Janet :)
LOVE the variety of ways that you target the muscle groups! Never boring!
Yay! Thank you for appreciating that 🤩
This Compound workout required more focus. Looking forward to doing it again.
absolutely! I always like to make it a workout for the brain as well :)
I also took my laptop outside. Put on the misters and had the best stretch ever. Thank you. What a positive wat to start my day. ❤
Wonderful! Have an awesome day Debbie :)
Although this strength workout is for seniors. I was looking for a strength training workout for my fibromyalgia. I am only 29. However I am often start my workouts for seniors ,because of my chronic illness. I am so happy I found your guided workout! I liked how you modified some workout exercises in the video in case one wishes to go more gently on their body. The way you guided was very graceful and supportive. I felt very encouraged and shared a few smiles during the work out. I will keep up with this workout you created consistently, learning to be consistent. However your guided workout, guided me so greatly and gracefully that I am looking forward to working out on this video the next time! Years back, a fysiotherapist told me I should focus on strengthening my muscles. I forgot about it, never understood why with my fibromyalgia however I came to a realization perhaps now why. So this motivates me to get into it. I don't feel scared now with chronic pain the next day,; if my chronic pain should increase, because if I was too hard on myself I would feel my chronic pain more. I have learned the slow and gracefully movements work for my body and my fibromyalgia. It makes me feel safe to continue without increasing my symptoms. Thank you immensely for creating this. I had great joy doing your workout exercise.
🙏🌿
Wonderful! Thank you very much for your kind words. I'm so glad that my videos are helpful to you. Definitely keep up with the strength training, but may I recommend pilates as well? I have many viewers that also have fibromyalgia and find relief with pilates.
@@SeniorShapeFitness Hello,
I appreciate the kind words you provided and the recommendation you made. It is much appreciated! My experience with pilates is limited. If I am capable, I will definitely check it out and put it to the test! I am looking forward to my workout this week. I will try one of your videos on Pilates exercises guidance, if that's something you offer on your UA-cam channel! Thanks again for your response!
You are the most imaginative fitness instructor ever! I can't imagine how I stood it in all the other fitness classes I've been in--it was the same moves, e.e. with weights, over and over again. No matter who the instructor was! Thanks for keeping each video fresh. It keeps me coming back for more!
Great! I appreciate that so much! It’s no fun if it’s boring 😀
Thank you for the modifications! As an active 64 year old woman with osteopenia, I am always looking for bone friendly workouts.
You're so welcome! I'm glad this is a good workout for you Kathy :) If you haven't found it already, I have a playlist that has all my osteoporosis-friendly workouts.
Just did this one for the first time today. Need a bit of practice with some of the combinations, but I know this is going to become one of my favourite classes. I like the countdown timer as it seems to help speed through the exercises. Many thanks Lauren
Great! Stick with it for sure Dave. Those last two exercise combos are a little tricky and will definitely get easier with practice :)
So happy to have found this channel, I will turn 60 this year and need to start incorporating weights... Your work outs are just what I was looking for..thank you much
wonderful! Happy to have you working out with me Laura :)
love, love, love your workouts. I am going to be 65 in August and I have never been this healthy!
Wow! Amazing to hear Loretta :) keep up the good work !!!
I loved this Lauren it was short and quick and intense. I really didn't think I was going to be able to do it with the 8 lb weight but I did. I was grateful for the modification window because the twisting moves starting bothering me at some point so I stopped even though my ego wanted to go on. I was sweaty long before you said I would be.
Woo hoo! nice job with the 8lbs Paula! You're right, I packed a lot into this workout. Glad you were able to utilize the modifications too :)
Lauren thank you ! Thoroughly enjoyed this workout! Stay blessed ! Love the reminders especially about my tummy 🙏🙏🙏
Great Margarete! Thanks so much :)
Love that you are creative enough not to repeat the same exercises. The routine flew by and was just challenging enough.
Wonderful! Thank you Kathleen :) I try not to do repeats, I find them terribly boring ;)
Always amazed at how you come up with such innovative moves.Having trained for 45 years thought had seen all possible moves but you always surprise us.Good for the mind as well as body as you never know what to expect😊Had to go down a weight as miscalculated how tough some of these moves are and how one side considerably 20:53 weaker.Thank you your 20:53 hard work is much appreciated.
Thank you so much 😀 Glad it's a good workout for you Mandy !!
AMAZING, AMAZING, AMAZING WORKOUT!! I really appreciate the different moves to work the different muscle groups. Please keep doing these workouts to keep us all in good, healthy condition! I always pause the video just so I can get more reps in there. My arms feel GREAT!
Yay! Good for you for adding some extra reps! Is it time to get heavier weights? 🤩
I found your channel a couple of months ago, but just started doing exercises a week ago. I have lots of lower body strength but didn't realize how little upper body strength I had. You are a great trainer 💪 and I'm going to continue building a strong body. Thank you so much!
You are most welcome Patti! Great job getting started and keep up the great work 🙌🏻
Great workout again loved it Thankyou see you for the next one 🙋👍
You’re welcome 😊 see you next time Julie!
Hi there, Lauren! Well I had carpal tunnel surgery on Friday so when I saw this new video, I thought “Darn! I won’t be able to do that for a while.” But then I thought, maybe I can…. I did the whole thing using a mini ball instead of a weight and it felt so good! Not as effective I’m sure, but I did manage to break a sweat! When there’s a will, there’s a way! Thank you for all your wonderful workouts!
Yay! That’s awesome JoAnne! I LOVE that you used a mini ball 🤩
Love this strength workout. Quick and good to ease back in to my weight routine after being off of one for quite a while. I absolutely love you channel for those of us over 50 to ease back into working out without injury! Recommended to my 78 year old Mom as well!!!
Yay! I love that Michelle! So glad you are enjoying my workouts and thanks for sharing with your Mom. I have so many mothers and daughters that work out together using my videos, I think I need to do a special Mother-daughter workout!
I am 66yrs and have mostly been reasonably fit however over the last year I had injuries and other physical problems which made a big impact on my fitness level. Since finding your programme a couple of months ago, it has been a godsend. Someone who totally understands
the complexities of aging. Thank you so so much Lauren ♥️
It's my pleasure Lorraine! I'm so glad you found me and are enjoying my videos. keep up the good work :)
I am so glad I found this channel, too! I am a senior, and all her exercise videos they are amazing. I would like to see more walking videos. I would like to do a 4 mile walk. Thank you, Lauren.

A longer one is on my to do list 😀

Now up to 6lb dumbbells, started at 2lbs. I’m 78,female,and my first time doing your workout. Sensational! Really appreciated all the detail you provided. I had my previous dumbbells of 5lb ready in case I couldn’t hack it. I only had to use those for about 8 minutes and the remainder used my brand new 6lbs. Thank you- I’m going to try and do this on alternating days with aerobics.
M.T.
Fantastic! I'm so glad you enjoyed it Mary :)
Good Morning! Wonderful workout you created! Used 10lb Weight! Have a Wonderful Day! Than u❣️❣️❣️
Great job Carol! Hope you have a great day too :)
I'm 24 years old and trying to build strength. I used 5lb dumbell. I loved the slow and controlled movements and low impact. I have a cyst in my wrist so I can't do what a lot of people do my age like push ups, burpees, basketball, and certain machine at the gym, can't even use my wrist to hold my weight or get myself off the ground. Anyway! This was fun. Went by fast too. I feel good afterwards, not too exhausted but just enough
Exactly! That's what I hope to accomplish with my videos. I'm so glad you liked it and I appreciate you working out with me!
Can't wait to to this one! After weeks of strength exercises with the physio now ready to pick up your standing workouts again! X
Yay! That’s awesome Liz 🙌🏻

I love your workouts! You have such a positve attitude! Thank you! I (personally) love that you do not repeat moves! Keeps one focused and the time is fun and flies by! 😃
Thank you so much Michaeline !! I agree no repeats makes it go faster :)
Thank you for this great workout. I have been doing yoga for 10 years but knew that I needed something to increase my arm strength. Every time I tried lifting weights I would get neck pain. I have been working your program every other day for the last 3 weeks and I feel stronger in the neck and arm area which improves my posture. I have osteopena so your modifications are appreciated. This is just what I needed. Peg
Wonderful! Happy to hear it's helpful Peg. Keep up the great work :)
Thank you for a great workout. Your voice is calm and the exercises well paced. Have just subscribed ❤
Glad you enjoyed it! Happy to have you working out with me 🤩
As someone who is still working finding shorter workouts (I work out early morning before I head to work) that are still challenging AND work the entire body is so great. I love the variety of moves you put together as well. Your workouts are my go-to these days. Thanks for all you do!
My pleasure Kristen, so glad you are enjoying my workouts 🤩
Hi Lauren. Loved this workout. As always, challenging and delicious. I just found your weekly playlists! Look forward to using them. How often do you make new videos, and where would I find them? (Anne)
I'm glad you found the weekly playlists Anne! I think I just assumed that you already new about it! I post a new video every Monday morning. Make sure you are subscribed to my channel (hit the subscribe button) and click the notification button (looks like a little bell). That way my new videos will appear on your UA-cam home screen.

Again, Love the videos you put together! Feeling accomplished! Used a 10lb weight. Thank you, Lauren! 😅😅😅
Awesome!!! You are most welcome Carol :)
Lauren, I had to say THANK YOU for adding in the osteoporosis modification ox in this video…perfect! I have to say, though, that I wanted so bad to do that twist! As I’m approaching 60 this February, I’m noticing a lot of changes in my body. I’m sure some of this can be from not having a regular exercise and strength training routine. Im not one to just sit around…I like to be doing something and thought that was enough. Im finding it’s not, especially after being diagnosed with osteoporosis. Since I can’t do any twisting of the spine, is there any way I can trim my waistline without the twisting? Im beginning to look square as I’m not seeing much definition in my waistline anymore. Thank you for any input you can give!
Glad you like it Cathy! Here is a link to my osteoporosis ab routine: ua-cam.com/video/3zNTSG-c06w/v-deo.html
This will help strengthen your core. Twisting helps tone and strengthen the obliques (sides of the waist), but it won't get rid of any extra weight in that area. unfortunately, we can't spot treat an area. Trimming your waistline needs to be accomplished through diet and overall calorie burn. This may not be what you want to hear, but I hope it makes sense :)
I am a Senior 67 with no ACL in my right knee being treated for breast cancer. I love the work out , I can modify if needed. I do it in between my gyms cardio drumming days. Thank you❤
My pleasure Diane, so glad you are able to make it work for you. Did you know that I have a knee-friendly playlist? Let me know if you need the link :)

Great advice Jacqueline!
Wonderfull workout😅😅😊!!!! I wonder if you can do another workout with kettlebell? I love them very much. Greetings from a snowy Sweden.
Noted Inga, thanks!
Hi Lauren. I love all your workouts. I’m wondering if you could introduce gym-rings for beginners and seniors. My sons use them (in a doorway); they seem like a great addition for a strength-building program. Thank you for your amazing and effective workouts!
I love your suggestion and I love working with props and fun equipment! I don’t have a set of rings, but I do have a TRX band. However, I’ve found that some of my videos that have unique equipment don’t do very well. Perhaps in the future, if I get a sponsorship from a company?
Not sure how I have missed this workout as I try many of your videos but it was GREAT! Thanks so much for the variety you offer. I admire how you can find different moves but work the entire body so efficiently. Keep them coming!
So glad you liked it Ann!
10 lb weights. Feeling strong! Thanks again for all your productive videos! 😊😊😊😊
Nice work Carol and you are most welcome :)
Great workout! Sweaty and feeling strong! Used 10lb weights. Thank you for your expertise! Do you have any suggestions of excercises for arthritis in the neck or someone on UTube that would b a good guide. Thanks again! Have a great week end! 😅😅😅😊

Great work-out. I’m 64 and have osteoporosis and have had 2 compression fracture of T spine. I’m an avid exerciser and thought I was being very careful but have now realized I can’t do any bending forward with rounded back. I was unable to do some of the floor ex in this video so skipped the bending forward and modified what I could. Love the strength and cardio!!!!
Great Carolyn! I’m glad you were able to make it your own 💜
Such a great workout. I feel so fortunate to have found you and your workouts! So good for this brutal aging process I am going through. Thank u again. 😅😅😅😅😊😊😊😊😊
You're so welcome as always Carol :)
Great workout Lauren! First standing strength one I've done in months (with the help of knee supports). Only minor modification needed on lunges and managed it all with 3kgs. Onwards and upwards 😀 xx
Yay! Great job Liz!!!
Lauren, I am trying to keep track of which workouts I’ve done…do you have labels or a way to track that? I am watching on UA-cam…thanks again for ALL your labor for us!!
A couple different ways Sharline: If you have already done or previewed a video there will be a red line/bar at the bottom of a video.
also, you can go into your library and there you will see your "watch history" you can also see your "liked" or "saved" videos here as well.
I don't number them, but you can also create your own playlist of your favorites that you like and want to return too.
Does that help at all?
Dear Lauren. I am new to your channel and I love your content. Im in my 50's and I feel it the day after. Guess pain comes when the workout has been done properly. Congratulations and blessings from Ecuador ❤
Thanks for working out with me Sara, I'm thrilled you love my videos :)
