Love this so much and used to really enjoy the trips on Calypso on TV with Jacques Cousteau and his men it was the first thing I saw that showed so much of what we were missing under the water, without all of the stuff we now take for granted. encourages a deep love of the ocean and all it contained then. So much has been damaged and destroyed by humans many fish extinct and reefs destroyed Jacques Cousteau would be devastated along with John Denver who spent time with Jacques on Calypso. I know I am💔😪 Thanks to John Denver who composed this beautiful song that when I sing along with him I can picture the beauty of the ship and the wonderful crew and all that encapsulated. The films with this were lovely to see again too. Thanks so much for sharing💖

I loved watching Jacques Cousteau when I was a child, I was filled with such wonder at the tings he brought to us. But I fear his beloved Calypso has become a vessel that lives only in memory, she will never return to the sea because she became the victim of an incompetent owner. Even if Francine is actually able to bring her back to the sea someday, it will be too late, the generations have moved on, the young people of today could care less about her. It's time to let beautiful Calypso pass into legend and allow her sail the dreamscapes of those who grew up watching her.

Remembering Jacques-Yves Cousteau Born on June 11, 1910. He was a French naval officer, oceanographer, filmmaker and author. He co-invented the first successful Aqua-Lung, open-circuit SCUBA (self-contained underwater breathing apparatus). The apparatus assisted him in producing some of the first underwater documentaries. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacques_Cousteau

A tribute to two men! A brilliant environmentalist and a brilliant song writer. John was inspired by Jaque. Loved both of them

I wanted to be just like him when I grew up. He was my hero from the first time I saw his show when I was three years old!

To sail on a dream on a crystal clear ocean
To ride on the crest of a wild raging storm
To work in the service of life and the living
In search of the answers to questions unknown
To be part of the movement and part of the growing
    Part of beginning to understand
Aye, Calypso, the places you've been to
The things that you've shown us
    The stories you tell
Aye, Calypso, I sing to your spirit
The men who have served you
    So long and so well
    Olole iiiii, ololo ululululu
    Olole iiii, ololo uu
Like the dolphin who guides you
    You bring us beside you
To light up the darkness and show us the way
For though we are strangers in your silent world
To live on the land, we must learn from the sea
To be true as the tide
    And free as the wind-swell
Joyful and loving in letting it be
Aye, Calypso, the places you've been to
The things that you've shown us
    The stories you tell
Aye, Calypso, I sing to your spirit
The men who have served you
    So long and so well
Aye, Calypso, the places you've been to
The things that you've shown us
    The stories you tell
Aye, Calypso, I sing to your spirit
The men who have served you
    So long and so well
    Olole iiiii, ololo ululululu
    Olole iiii, ololo uu
    Okee mensen, laat je horen!
    Olole iiiii, ololo ululululu
    Olole iiii, ololo uu

I must apologise for finding this link so late since its release! I grew up as a kid in Australia always waiting for the next TV episode - it was a much watched viewing. My appreciation and education of the ocean etc as I'm sure for many viewers back then was a revelation, inspiring many to pursue a career as marine biologists or simply ardent advocates of marine conservation.
One thing I'll never forget is simply hearing him narrate the episode - I knew as a young kid I was up for an hour of amazing wonder.

My childhood hero! (Apart from my Dad), I loved Cousteau and I watched 'The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau' avidly. I also liked John Denver and remember a documentary of John sailing with Jacques on Calypso.
