Hi Pat. Lovely old brickwork .
I am a bricklayer so love to see the old craftsmanship.
Those bricks are Staffordshire blue engineerings.
They are made in Staffordshire from etruria marl clay.
Best bricks ever along with accrington nori.

I think electricians and plumbers in Lancashire and for many miles around, would have a different opinion of Accrington nori; the stuff might be able to survive long beyond the next apocalypse, but it's awful for drilling and chasing :-)

I used to walk the tunnel regular in the 80 s I was talking to an old railway worker who said during the war Churchill set up a gorilla army to cause havoc against the Germans ,they built secret arms and hiding places all over the country to store explosives arms etc.he told me that there was a secret hide hole dug out into one of the manholes for this purpose he can re bear the men working on it but didn’t know exactly which manhole I’ve looked but never found it it might still be there I don’t know regards des😊

Great video , this part of the railway from Killamarsh Junction was a diversionary route from the Great Central main line for slower goods trains between Sheffield and Nottingham . It was a stiff climb and was known to railway men as the Clog and Knocker . I only worked through it once just before it closed when I was a fireman at Darnall Sheffield .

Truly excellent Pat. Drone video of the Derbyshire countryside is just beautiful. What a beautiful country and what a great representative you are of that country. You really are a good soul.
Six years before this tunnel was closed I was living 1.3 miles from it, in Barlborough. I was eight at the time. We did a cross country to St. Mary's, so I may have been very close to this spot. Things have changed a bit since then, like drones and the internet. Now I am 4,791 miles from this tunnel. I notice on Google Earth that the tunnel does not seem to go under a hill. Also, in your drone video the ground looks quite flat. Perhaps the tunnel was built to spare the homes, farms and roads. Very advanced for 1898. One of your other viewers asked if you thought that the tunnel was built in a trench and then backfilled. It appears that unless they bored through good solid, not to hard, limestone, a trench would have been more economical.

I know exactly where this is as I lived within a mile of it on Westhorpe Road in Killamarsh, 1964 -1966. We had lots of family in that area as my Dad was born in Killamarsh.
That Tunnel created one of the greatest hump back bridges in the area, my Dad would always hit it at speed then let off the pedal and our stomachs would float, we loved it.
My Auntie lived in Spinkhill on this very same road, its lovely countryside, Thanks for that explore in the Tunnel, I do love the photography in this and on all your explores in Sheffield such as Megatron, the drone work is simply beautiful too.

Another excellent video Pat, love the detailed descriptions and photos you take. The drone footage at the end was the icing on the cake. There used to be some big concrete lego bricks blocking the tunnel entrance, but they were removed within the last couple of years. I'm so glad this tunnel survived for people to explore, and didn't get filled in with mine waste like Duckmanton and Bolsover tunnels nearby. It's also amazing how quickly nature takes back these places. It's hard to imagine that the cutting to northern portal was still being used for wagon storage back in the early 80's for the nearby Killamarsh pit and tracks still ran off to the north behind Rother Valley Country Park.

    Hi Pat
That tunnel is where I used to play in the late 60`s early 70`s .
Me & my mates ( about age 10 ) went there one summer .
Back then there was a light chicken wire fence across the entry`s .
    Easy to crawl under .
The large building that you can see from the drone is called Park Hall .
Somewhere around there as I remember was some old rotting doors & windows
perfect for making a camp/den in the tunnel .
We had a few weeks fun building that until one day it was found by much
    bigger boys .
Great vid pat …. took me back years & happy memories .

As ever brilliant filming, Just incredible that old fashioned flash bulbs still have their place, you should do ‘Master-Classes’ in this, !, The rail fitting you found appears to be a 95lb Bullhead rail chair probably dating from the 1950s, still being. ‘laid new’ in the 1960s, usually the ‘companies’ initials such as BR (British Railways) can be discerned on the top of the base. Please keep these coming and all the best for Christmas and the New Year

I really like the tunnel and drain explorations. And I have to say that while in the Union Pacific snow shed trail on Donner Summit in California I thought about your early train tunnel video. Where you lit the steel wool in a basket for what became an amazing picture. If I ever get the chance to go back there to the Donner Pass Train sheds I will be trying it. And I'll be sure to post a reply video to share with you and your viewers. For now I'm stuck on the east coast in Connecticut. Thanks again for what you do.
