      Hey, the ptarmigan tries it's best. There is only so much it can do, being so closely related to grouse lol.
      I'm just glad I was able to train my dog not to chase them- sometimes they would smash into the windows in my house 😖

    In Japan, ptarmigans are called thunderbirds(雷鳥).

    I'm a life-long bird watcher, partial to shorebirds and waterfowl, but regardless of that, ptarmigans have always been my very favorite!

    I found out only yesterday that North America even HAD grouse when learning about the Sage Hen, so the timing of this video is ON POINT! And such a pretty bird, too!

    When Hunting, just follow the burping snow and you'll find them.

    Awesome video, been waiting for this one ahaha Also something you may find interesting is that us native people in the north have stories on the willow ptarmigan mating rituals and as far as I know it hasn’t been documented yet. They mate in groups of two males and two/four females. The females all stand in the middle while the two males dance around them in a circle. They do this before spring on the ice. My father told me this story a few years ago.

    Great video! In the uk, we call Lagopus lagopus the “red grouse” and it’s true they generally don’t go all white! They are generally widespread on heather moors. What we call ptarmigan (Lagopus mutus) does go white in winter, but they are only found on the high mountains in the Scottish highlands.

    Suggestion for another bird if you haven't done this yet: The critically endangered Kakapo, a flightless parrot in New Zealand. Remarkable conservation story, but lots to go, less than 300 living. I love how your stories raise awareness of threats to animals!

    I love the "paow paow paow paow" sound. For some reason in other vids I've seen, the ones in seberia seem to be a lot more aggressive and territorial lol. Hard to be mad at a perfect little white blob with red eyebrows lmaoo

    I need to know what the noises and their meanings are. In particular, the sound I've heard in some other video. The video says "Lets hear what it has to say". And the ptarmigan says "A werewolf!" and "Get out!" Very important for writing a story with werewolves!!!!

      Sure. Quite a few animals living in this type of climate have a white coat in winter and a brown one in summer.
      The mountain hare, for example or the Arctic fox.

    It's wild to me that people enjoy the tundra. Not judging. I'm just a herp nerd, and the northern most reptile is the vivipara, so I have nothing to watch besides the caribou. However, the woodland caribou are cooler still

      @@LaddRusso91 basically if it had wings, it would try to murder me lol but yes it started with yellow roosters trying to murder me as a little kid. Birds just single me out for some reason and attack or chase me and I just adore birds. They’re sweet and funny to everyone but me lol

      I was chased by roosters and turkeys as a kid haha. I still like birds, but I don't trust their eyes, if that makes any sense.
      I got sparrows that made nests at my windows, chirping and making a mess everyday.
