I’ve been on Alprazolam for 6+ months now. I never exceed 2mg per day, nor do I feel the need to. Tolerance may develop to the sedative and muscle relaxant effects, but tolerance to its anxiolytic effects have never occurred (supported by literature). Yes my memory is slightly impaired when I take full dose of 2mg per day, but otherwise my cognitive functions remain perfectly intact.
Before this drug, I would suffer intense bouts of anxiety that were resistant to all other treatments. Alprazolam remains the only drug that silences it.
So I’ll gladly accept the risk of long term cognitive issues - as of yet, I haven’t noticed anything of concern.
In fact, the anxiety I suffered from prior to treatment was likely impairing my cognitive ability due to its severity.
The only thing I need to make sure of is to never run out, because as rightly pointed out, the withdrawal effects are devastating.

I can give up the beer, but I never knew the hell I would go through with Xanax. I would rearrange my work schedule and make the 9 hour commute to see this doctor, I work in the healthcare field as well, but in lower capacity. Just as long as I can sleep and get through an 8-12 hour work day, I will consider myself lucky. Not ,many are even aware of the slow taper method. Thanks for your video. It was very helpful. I wish we had seen this a year ago. My wife is currently suffering from benzo withdrawal. She has been off of the drugs for 4 months after a slow taper and is very slowly showing signs of recovery. If we had taken the doctor's advice and upped the dosage, I believe that she would be dead.

    • @filippocorti6760

Elaborating may help others here. Its unlikely she would have died continuing it and even upping the dose. If she was off the benzo for 4 months and recovery is very slow, the taper was probably too fast. I know someone who took Xanax for 20+ years and went off it over a period of 6 months. Wasn't rough.

It used to be that US Customs would allow the import of a 90 day benzo supply (this stopped in 1999) Very easy if you live in a border state to develop a habit that would be very hard to do without bringing them in from outside. 5+ mg clonazepam daily is hard to stop, but I did it. Like and subbed. Your video is different in that it is so objective (just the facts) . I wish other creators would use some of your objectively. I ask. What was the highest age for a benzo recovery test patient? As the result of a hospital accident I contracted cervical osteomyelitis. I needed some radical debridements to the back of my neck. One doctor prescribed me valium when i had fever for good sleep
I took for couple of days and thats it, but it did make me feel good as i suffer from anxiety the effect was immediately felt.
I immediately googled it and found it is used for anxiety and panic attacks
But to this day i have never used any western medicine for treating anxiety
      I use magnesium,vitamind and b12,ashwagandha
      Workout and yoga
My father is a prime example of what medications can do to a man
Year and years of benzo abuse and a total mental mess
The reason i will never touch any psychiatric drug

Alzheimer's patients (like my Mom) in some cases developed alzheimers from stress and insomnia, two things benzos fix extremely well. I watched her pace around the house with anxiety and get little sleep for a very long time. I believe that's what caused her alz. But benzos aren't prescribed to patients who have alzheimers already, because it could make it worse and progress faster. She is getting a lot of THC and CBD

I used to take up to 30mg alprazolam(Xanax) a day with alcohol because I have been suffering from terrible depression. Yes I was terribly addicted and one day I decided to just stop and sober up so I stopped cold turkey. And on the 5th day I had a terrible seizure and I thankfully was outside and people saw me passed out and called the emergency as I couldn't remember where I was and what day it was (I live alone). I was extremely hypertensive and agitated and In the ER they put me on Chlordiazepoxide(Librium) 40mg with an 8h interval, slowly tapering down to zero. And I kid you not, after the treatment, I still had rebound anxiety altho in much less intensity but still the feeling of jittery and anxious after the Chlordiazepoxide weared off.
So yeah withdrawal from benzos is a b*tch. Always talk to your GP or at least cut it down slowly if you don't want to die while sobering up.

If you have been taking them regularly, for years, you're gonna have a problem that lasts 2 years or more if you try to come off of them, which has been a real problem for my Grandmama who's almost 80...she has had back problems for decades, but has managed to get through all the surgeries over the years with nothing but hydrocodone, (impressive if you know pain...and she's been on 7.5's, the medium strength ones, but because she was on a benzo, and because of a squish on dr.s, she had to make the decision to either off the clonazepam (Klonopin) she had been taking for a LONG time with the hydrocodone, and had NO problems due to those being in her system...she doesn't drink or take anything else that would cause a problem) she could stop taking those, OR stop taking her pain medication altogether. So she though, "I don't need those, they just help me sleep"To her, not knowing how bad withdrawal from long term, dr prescribed (in fact, she took less than prescribed of the klonopin)......Now she's afraid to leave the house and barely leaves the bed. And I don't know, but I bet she's taking much stronger painkillers. I understand that we don't need new long term benzo-dependent patients, but for the ones who it's been ok, let's KEEP that Hippocratic Oath...long term benzos are a mistake (for the most part), but to those already dependent on them just to live, or just for the will to live, DO NO HARM.

    • @Notchworld
      @Notchworld 4 роки тому +1

Bryce Nunweiler I went through this same thing except I was abusing that same dosage probably 6-8 months. This was last year. I started by tapering off slowly and then eventually went cold turkey for the last of it. I had some serious depression and horrible dreams for about 2 weeks. But it wasn’t debilitating. I could still function in every day life, it’s just my anxiety and overall mental health was on edge to the max. After the initial withdrawals ended, I went through about of month and a half of bland depression. Just unfocused, zombie sadness. So I went to the doctor and got on Zoloft (anti depressant). This helped me a whole lot with the process. After about 3 months on zoloft, I tapered off that and now I feel 100% better. My experimental phase was very ugly! I’m glad I got out of it free of addiction and learned my lesson. I’m not going to say that Im done with Xanax forever. It helps me in my career if I use it the right way. But now that I know how to get off of it when I use it daily, I can manage it better. The trick is to taper off slowly until you’re all the way off, spend about 2 or 3 weeks completely off and then hop on an antidepressant for two or three months. Then taper off that and you are golden. Your brain chemicals will be re-balanced and you’re back to normal.

Bryce Nunweiler Please Google and read the Ashton Manual it’s free online and you can print out a copy to bring to your doctor, most doctors are uneducated on tapering patients off! Dr. Heather Ashton is one of the worlds experts on benzodiazepine withdrawal, she suggests switching to Valium to taper as it has a longer half life. Paul Cunack has a Utube site that explains the taper easily and is very informative. BenzoBuddies is a online support forum that you can read and ask questions and also is very informative! You are right, thank you for the correction - "Zolpidem is a nonbenzodiazepine and hypnotic of the imidazopyridine class.[3] Zolpidem is a type A GABA receptor agonist.[3] It works by increasing GABA effects in the central nervous system by binding to GABAA receptors at the same location as benzodiazepines.[3] "

Honestly I agree because if people were left without drugs that work with serious mental problems the person will probably just commit suicide. And I would personally rather die from an accidental overdose or seizure than feel miserable for almost my whole life only to end my life.

Fuck I literally fall under so many of these categories - I used benzos from 2015-2016 very hard then went cold turkey - relapsed in 2017 and the two following years and literally lost myself after using some shit called Phenazepam - I don''t feel human anymore and 100% have concentration problems, delayed reaction & general way worse anxiety and an intelligence diffidency and am literally brain damaged I guess - this has impacted my life insanely bad and I'm only 21 - alprazolam has ruined my life and I've let it sadly

Hmmm.... Typical "cherry picking" studies that agree with you. I've had four strokes and am on .5mg Xanax BID for motor control of my right hand/arm. Ideal? Nope, but hitting myself in the head or body uncontrollably wasn't either. My primary care D.O. is "Oh, you're on benzos!!! That's terrible!!!". My stroke Dr. (M.D. PhD. Board Certified Psychiatrist, Board Certified Neurologist, Head of Neurology at my hospital) is "So??? What else you got to help him? Oh, yeah, opioids that will kill him and don't work." I couldn't use a mouse or a keyboard with out Xanex, or drive, or shop, or take a shower/bath, or do laundry, or do the dishes, or walk, or sleep, or feed myself, or write. Well I could be "gorked" in a nursing home. I'm old, I ain't gonna live forever. (you won't either) The POSSIBLE FUTURE harm vs: the immediate symptom relief doesn't add up to your "THE SKY IS FALLING!!!" hype. Are "benzos" worse than amoxicillin for years instead of having your kid's tonsils removed? "Well, there's no good long term studies of amoxicillin in children", yeah, they don't STAY KIDS long term...What about giving child asthmatics (I'm one) doses of steroids for years, turning them into little short hump-backed full-backs with weak bones and Type II diabetes??? I'm "pre-steroid". I'm old. As Charlie Allnut tells Rosie at the fork in Ulanga, "You pays your money and you takes your choices." re: C. S. Forester novel "The African Queen"
