Very nice and I really like the dimensions of the tank. Are you sure that bark log is good to use in the fish tank? Sometimes pieces of wood from a terrarium shop are prepared not to rot. Just a tip to check. Personally, I prefer now to use only large branches and small twigs from a nearby forest. Looks more natural and perfect to use. But I really do like your set up and channel. Have been following your work for years. 🙂
Thank you:) I was also somewhat suspicious about the terrarium bark log, but it looks like it has not been treated with anything, even had spider web inside and some forest compost. I waterlogged it for 1,5 weeks just in case
The tank looks great, I like the idea of only painting half of the background black. My water had a pH of 6.6, with no kh. If I add botanicals, will that make the water too acidic?
Thank you! I have similar water parameters to yours and they are great for softwater fish. I noticed that botanicals only alter hardness if added in excessive amounts to a small tank. Covering the bottom with a layer of leaf litter normally has no effect at all
Great work on the aquarium! Do you ever detect nutrient deficiencies in the riparian plants? Do you add fertilizers to the water column or is the bioload from the fish sufficient for maintaining healthy plants?
Thank you:) I normally fertilize the plants with a pond fertilizer about once per week, but since this is a new tank and plants are still adapting I have not yet added any ferts
Thank you! My LED lamps are quite low on wattage so I never had that issue before with Echinodorus. My riparian plants never burned before, they seemed to enjoy the proximity and grow towards it!
Loving this series Hus its looking amazing
Thanks, Paul! I've been waiting for half a year to set up this tank:)
Nice done
Absolutely amazing 😍.
Thank you:)

Inspiring! how do you deal with leaves burning near the lights? I sacrifice a few that way as long as the main plant is thriving. You?

Are you going to use root tabs for the echinodorus plants?
I've added aquatic compost in mesh bags under the sand layer, so hopefully that should be enough for the plants
Looking great - what are the plants at 12:30 and 13:25 please? Are they both ok with just the roots in water?
I think the plant at 12:30 is either a Ctenanthe Amagris or Calatheas "Prayer plant" and at 13:25 I think it is a "Flaming Sword" Bromeliad.
The first one is Calathea lancifolia (rattlesnake plant) and the second as mentioned in the below comment is a Flaming Sword Bromeliad.
