    I have a speech issue and I teach/coach. My weakness has made me distill the ideas I need to communicate down to their very essence so that I don't have to talk as much. This has led to higher rates of success by eliminating unnecessary idea clutter. High speed, low drag.

    As a retired Army officer I sometimes run across ROTC cadets who crave or need mentoring I cannot give them. I can give them a little but I can only go so far without being tiresome. Young troops want to _do,_ not listen. Thanks to Jocko I can just say "Go to Jocko's UA-cam channel." He's got all the mentoring I could offer _and so much more_ (I wasn't SF). But they can access it on their own terms in their own time. I wish I'd had access to a resource like this when I was a cadet or lieutenant. I'd probably be a damn general by now!

    • @lambynighttrain
      @lambynighttrain 2 роки тому +1

      I mean no disrespect, but over the last 40 years, anyone that had good mentoring would Prbly bot join the military. Like General Smeadly butler said - war is a racket.

    • @EricDaMAJ
      @EricDaMAJ 2 роки тому +4

      @@lambynighttrain I joined the Army in 1986. I got stationed in Germany for almost a decade and vacationed in multiple European nations. Ate a lot of gourmet food too. I got out to Korea and some places in the states I'd never gone to. I also got stationed in Turkey and saw many amazing places there as well. I repelled out of helicopters, jumped out of airplanes, and met a lot of interesting, cool people. The GI paid for my 4 year college degree.
      My deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan weren't fun but there were elements of fun to them. On the downside: I did have to deal with many assholes, hard work, and unfair situations. But there are none of those in civilian life, right? Being stationed in SW Oklahoma sucked but I was only there for a few years.
      II retired in 2014 with a $40k annual pension which I started receiving the month after I left. Over $3.5k a month for sitting on my butt! Not that I really need it. While I was still in I chucked a fat wad of my pay into stocks and index funds. Now I'm a multi millionaire. I have no mental or physical disabilities. At least none that I didn't start my career with.
      They told me when I enlisted "if you survive, the military gives you what you put in." My only regret is I didn't put more in. 'Cause from the little I did, I made out like a mad bandit; I'm livin' like a fat rat.
