Jim Kelly had the unfortunate timing of playing four of the NFC East’s all time powerhouse teams. Those ‘90 Giants, ‘91 Redskins, and ‘92/‘93 Cowboys were all powerhouses.
I am a Bills fan from the UK. I adopted them as my NFL team in the mid 1980`s little knowing how much pain and heartache this decision would cause me. I have stuck with The Bills, visited Western New York on a number of occasions to see them play, meet some great people and made lifelong friendships with people up there. Looking forward to this years AFC Championship Game perhaps without the same level of confidence as from 1993 but the future is looking a lot better. Thanks for posting this. Go Bills.

Yea. There were flashes of brilliance his rookie year. I remember him vaulting Anthony Barr and then throwing a TD and running for another. Or the game against the Jags were he gets surrounded by Jags players and still throws a bullet to Robert Foster for a TD. I felt he had a ton of potential. And then last year, he started making some great plays. I’ll always remember the Cowboys game on Thanksgiving when the Bills went in and pummeled the Cowboys on national television. I knew he’d be a star. I just thought he needed more time. But I didn’t think it would happen so quickly. I expected another year but that Diggs addition makes them so deadly. So yea. I felt he had the potential to be the bigger rival to Mahomes than Lamar.

NFL Network has a show called NFL top 10. They ranked the Chiefs at 8 or something for most snakebit franchises. The author Ray Didinger highlighted that particular play in this game that demonstrated the bad luck that had followed the Chiefs for so many years (which much of that went away last year but the show was made like 10 years ago).

They blow this game because suddenly, they can't play run defense and Anders doinks a sure TD. Then Lin Elliott misses 3-4 FG's against Indy. They got EVERY SINGLE BREAK against us, but then found the nuttiest ways to lose against everyone else.

Was at this game. Thurman Thomas could not be stopped. I met OJ Simpson in parking lot after game and he mooched a beer from our tailgate while in his NBC jacket. This was 5 months before the murders and I know for fact that he had the famous shoes on.

This was a great game in a lot of ways but looking back I kinda wish Montana had pulled off the upset against the Bills here. The 90 yard drive by Kansas City kept the game competitive until the 4th quarter. The Bills, who were not such a defensive team, really contained the Chiefs offense.
As a lifelong Chiefs fan, this game still hurts to watch. The Bills were SO much better in every facet of the game. Also, Krieg totally outperformed Montana. Joe looked off all day before his concussion.

Also, the 49ers-Chiefs relationship/rivalries is tied with Joe Montana, similar to the Patriots-Buccaneers which is tied with Tom Brady. The three things that doomed the Chiefs in this game: Not getting TDs on their 1st half red-zone opportunities Kimble Anders dropping a TD at the end of the half, eliminating the essential double-dip TD at the beginning of the 2nd half Joe Montana getting a concussion I know that's a lot to ask, but all of those scripts get flipped, despite getting run over by Thurman Thomas, and the Chiefs would've had a shot at stealing this. As for the game tomorrow, these teams are incredibly evenly matched. Both sides have numerous weapons on offense along with underrated defenses. Should be fun.

The 90 yard drive by Kansas City kept the game competitive until the 4th quarter. The Bills, who were not such a defensive team, really contained the Chiefs offense.

As a lifelong Chiefs fan, this game still hurts to watch. The Bills were SO much better in every facet of the game. Also, Krieg totally outperformed Montana. Joe looked off all day before his concussion.

Wow now this is what you call football. They actually let the defense play against the receiver's. Both of the QB's are elite. They throw the ball so effortlessly wow. The NFL needs to go back to this style of football.

Also, the 49ers-Chiefs relationship/rivalries is tied with Joe Montana, similar to the Patriots-Buccaneers which is tied with Tom Brady. So it would be interesting to see a Super Bowl match between those latter two teams, because they would replicate what 49ers-Chiefs did.

Interesting how a similar scenario is playing out this season only in the NFC. Tom Brady is trying to accomplish what Joe Montana couldn't, winning a conference championship in _both_ conferences.
The three things that doomed the Chiefs in this game:
Not getting TDs on their 1st half red-zone opportunities
Kimble Anders dropping a TD at the end of the half, eliminating the essential double-dip TD at the beginning of the 2nd half
Joe Montana getting a concussion
I know that's a lot to ask, but all of those scripts get flipped, despite getting run over by Thurman Thomas, and the Chiefs would've had a shot at stealing this. As for the game tomorrow, these teams are incredibly evenly matched. Both sides have numerous weapons on offense along with underrated defenses. Should be fun.

The Bills pass-rush those days was very intimidating. Hansen, Wright, Bruce Smith could sack anybody on any day. Right now - not so much.
Ironically the Bills had a lot of great D linemen throughout their playoff drought. Many years it was the best unit of the team
