- Euro NCAP Frontal Impact takes place at 64 Km/h, 40% of the width of the car striking a deformable barrier. In the Full Width test, 100% of the width of the car impacts a rigid barrier at 50 Km/h. In the side impact, a mobile deformable barrier impacts the driver's door at 50 km/h. In the pole test, the car tested is propelled sideways at 32 km/h into a rigid pole.

Amazing amazing just amazing. Look at the severe test of side Pole... dummy barely moved and head gently touched curtain airbag. Even the lateral structure of the XC60 was slightly damaged in comparison to the brutal force of energy of the severe test of the side pole test.

Pretty sure Volvos system works in all speeds under 200kmh, the efficency in those speeds might differ quite alot im sure.
NCAP just gave the XC60 safest car award of 2017. It had a near perfect score of 98% on adult occupant safety.

That' because Volvo seats move inward in a side impact, away from the impact. Kind of a crush zone effect. In every other car brand, the seats rigidly remain in place.
And the XC60 just won safest car for 2017 from NCAP. Notably, it had a near perfect 98% score for adult occupancy protection.

Am I the only one that noticed all the interior trim didn't break off and go flying on the frontal offset? I do wonder if they are still that well made now in China. Almost all cars the rear vision mirror and other bits go flying.
I'm a bit displeased with the offset test as the XC60 doesn't dislodged the wheel and stops a few meters later as with the 90-series. It seems much safer to dislodge the wheel and "steer" clear of the majority of the impact area and by that reduce the inital impact and G's for the passangers.

And this is Volvo doing the test in-house. Volvo actually do extensive tests beyond what both NCAP and IIHS requirements are, which is even more impressive.

Same goes for the VW Polo, T-Roc and even the Citroen C3, the windshield not breaking isn't really special.
But overall the XC60 got 98% for drivers safety which is kinda special.
sure a lot of vehicles have no cracks in the windshield nowadays but it is not guaranteed. take the brand new BMW 5 series for example

For sure this XC60 supports a 100km/h crash. Even if driver gets slightly injured but doesn't die, it's an extraordinary amazing result and proves how cars and specially Volvo evolved in this matter.
Of course the energy of such a crash is very complicated to humans because of the deaceleration and the g forces involved. It might get your inside organs bleed.
But this is a fuckin' beast a fuckin' tank made with a high percentage of BORON STEEL.
XC60 HAS A 191 CM OF WIDTH, 469 OF LENGTH and 166 cm OF HEIGHT.
