  • The excitement is here! @Mazdausa loaned me this 2024 CX-90 PHEV to drive for a week and I have learned quite alot. This new platform is built with performance and luxury in mind with its dynamic chassis controls, longitudinal-RWD layout, and classy proportions. But if you purely are looking for a 3-row SUV just for the best cargo room ever, look elsewhere as this is NOT what the CX-90 is meant to be. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
    🏁 @Alllcarnews Spec sheet: 2.5L 4 Cylinder (189HP alone) + (173HP) Electric Motor. 8-Speed multi clutch automatic. Combined 323HP & 369 lb-ft of torque. 14.8kWh battery pack, 0-60 in 5.9sec, 5,236lbs (around 350lbs more than the Inline-6), 3,500lbs max towing (5,000lbs for I6). EPA rated 25miles of range, 20-26 as tested. Around 2hrs to charge full, 7.2kW charger. 🏁
    ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
+ The build quality, attention to detail, and design are all high points for the CX-90 that place it between mainstream and more expensive competitors.
+ The handling, for a 7-8 passenger SUV is uncanny in how well the body is controlled, how fluid the steering response is, and how dynamic it feels on the road. Drive a Telluride, Pilot, or Ascent back to back with this and you’ll understand. ⠀⠀
    ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
-The 8 speed multi clutch gearbox + Powertrain pairing could use some more time in the tuning department. I did experience the low speed stutter some have reported.
-Is storage space less than the mainstream competition? Yes, but it isn’t small at all and is huge jump over the CX-9. Priority has been directed towards the platform, driving pleasure, and style.
-The trim lineup is confusing and Mazda unfortunately held back even on this $58k Premium Plus PHEV, leaving more premium options/features to the top spec Inline-6 models.
An easy 8.5/10. I would personally still take the Inline-6 but this PHEV has solid potential and stands out against the crowd.

Thanks for the vid. I have been charging my CX90 PHEV mostly at Charge point stations, 1 Electrify America station and an Enel X station. All have been easy to use.. I wish that the fuel efficiency screen would have numbers as opposed to graphs, and a way to download the history in the phone app

A downloadable history would be really cool!

How often do you charge at public stations? I am trying to see if it's worth buying this car, public charging 2-3 times a week to see if I can save some gas money. I drive 25 miles daily to work and back.

I can't charge at my condo bc there are no outside outlets so I charge publicly... it's not ideal bc I don't have 2 hours to kill all the time, though the units I use are at a big mall, a target or at a bunch of restaurants... the BEV range when it's below 40 drops a good amount.. the best situation is where you can charge at home and at your workplace

Watched a lot of CX-90 vids and your one of the VERY few to talk about the charge button via the engine. I would LOVE to see someone (you perhaps) do a video covering this in more depth. I think this could be very useful depending on how you use it. For example on a trip of about 100 miles round trip; The start is mostly highway but your mid destination is where the city driving is at. If you use the battery in EV mode for the first part, then while on the highway recharged via the button and then went back on EV in the city at the middle of the trip, and then drove back home home on gas with charging again... would that be more effective than say a Rav 4 prime where you use all 40 miles of the EV up first with no way to recharge on the highway via the motor? Perhaps? Or even compared to stopping and recharging on a EV charger while in town, .... compare the gas price hit using the recharge button compared to charging at a station... No one has done a video on this. No idea how much of a MPG hit you get for using this either in the city or on the highway... I Would love to see someone cover it via a video. Perhaps this could be a hidden gem of a feature if used in some situations like the one listed above if it doesn't take a big hit on highway MPG to recharge.

You get used to the shifter after a bit.. i occasionally get in in N instead of R... but its a stupidndesign that is not necessary.. as for storage, the center console is very shallow - i had thr CX9 which was way deeper.. storage is less that the CX9 it feels

Not related to charging, but do you have trouble with putting the vehicle into park without mistaking park as reverse? Also, do you have enough storage space in the center console? I looked at the CX-90 in the showroom, and I thought the gearshift was a little confusing.

Personally didn’t have an issue with the gearshift but the storage could be a bit larger, not too bad though.
