We’ve had the PHEV for 6 months now. Love the exterior styling, handling, and PHEV. With a level 2 charger installed at home, we can plug in and top off the battery quickly between errands. Last tank was 127 MPGe (1,400 miles on 11 gallons). Everything else is fairly disappointing… interior room, lack of storage, features, quirky ergonomics. The day to day usability is mediocre. We knew going in storage and overall room was tight but it’s proved more frustrating than anticipated. Our previous CX9 was a better all around vehicle with more storage, better ride/handling balance, and more features. Pizza boxes and groceries that fit behind the third row in the CX9 don’t fit in the CX90. That changed our typical errand routine. Because we need the third row down for storage, we have to bring the kids home first and go back out The CX90 isn’t a bad car but it’s not terribly family friendly.

Hi Kelly. Love your videos. I’m thinking where available maybe include some of the iihs info. At least if the car is a top safety pick or performed badly. For instance I know this Mazda is a top safety pick plus while something like the grand highlander had pretty low scores. Im looking for a three row and other than space and amenities (which you cover wonderfully) safety is my top concern. Keep up the good work

6 month owner here… there is no direct comparison to this car. It’s a great niche option for someone who wants more unique styling, a luxe feel, a zippier suspension/drive, fuel economy, with 2 kids (but want the ability to car pool on occasion.)
If you don’t want to blend in with the rest of the toyota/Honda/ford/GM folk, but you aren’t ready to for luxury prices- it’s awesome!
My biggest con is the EV range tanks in winter and highway drives.

We’ve had one for 6 months. It’s a great option if you are looking for a luxe feel, fun ride, less than 2 school aged kids and want some innovative fuel economy. The ride is more sporty, less “boat-like.” We have enjoyed it for our situation. The plug in electric economy tanks in the winter and on highway, so would be best for “around town driving”. This car deserves kudos for styling and innovation, but not as a hauler.

While i love your reviews pertaining to "mom" criteria , i would love review on how it drives based on your standards. Eagerly awaiting your review of Toyota Crown Signia.

It's frustrating to see the review as the third row is definitely designed for 2 seats. The reviewer went and use the left sear belt to pair with the right side buckle and said it's small.
Secondly the baby seat she's using as backwards facing. Most baby seats are front facing. There is no three rows suv that can pass through to third row when the baby seats are installed. Even a large kia ev9.
The only thing I agree with her is that if they building American market. They need to consider the 20oz Stanleycup size cup holders

As a current CX-5 owner in need of something bigger, I wanted to love this vehicle but as you pointed out the car seat situation makes it a no go. Disappointed but not surprised given the space challenges I have with my CX-5. I think it would be great if you have kids that aren't in car seats. Ended up ordering a Grand Highlander Hybrid instead but hope to come back to Mazda some day because the drive, interior, and reliability is great.

But GH doesn’t have the best safety ratings surprisingly and the very underwhelming interiors for a $55k+ vehicle

I could fit a car seat in 2nd and 3rd row fitting a 2+ year old child.

I never paid any attention to Mazda... then I drove a 2016 CX-9 on a whim, and fell in love with the brand! I've actually leased two CX-5 Turbo Sg's waiting for the long-promised CX-9 'replacement' (...which turned out to be the 90 & 70). I've enjoyed the peppy CX-5's, but I really prefer a larger vehicle. After several test drives, I'm scheduled to pick up my new 'Artisan Red'/white CX-90 P+ PHEV this week! Can't wait❗️

Touch screen works with Apple CarPlay if you activate it through the menu. It’s off by default.

I saw a mechanic review this car and he said that mechanically, the regular is preferable to the PHEV… But he liked the PHEV quite well…

That is funny because I saw the reverse. Car care nut channel preferred the PHEV over the inline 6

I really liked this car, but can’t get your original review out of my head about how hot your rear facing kids were in this car with the weak back air vents. I would love review of the Cadillac Lyriq! Considering it based on non-mom reviews on UA-cam, but the shape of the front seats worries me in fitting my Baby Jogger City Turn rear facing car seat.

Find someone that loves you the way this woman loves cup holders.
Touchscreens = fingerprints. I use the click wheel and buttons on our CX-90.

I REALLY want to like the CX-90 as a replacement for my Sorento, but I just can't get over the compromises--rear seat space, passenger ventilation, and underwhelming storage space.

yes...yes, only if you aren't in Honda/Toyota management/an employee...then if that is the case, you might want to drive one of those...but for everyone who isn't, the CX-90 PHEV is a good place to be. The real answer of course is..."it depends". Too many variables to list....

Just looking at how tight the space is on the inside it seems this vehicle would be better as a two row w/a bench seat in the middle like the regular Grand Cherokee. Then you could at least have some decent space in the 2nd row and trunk area. The placement of the air vents in the 3rd row are just weird. Not sure who would want cold or hot air blasting the side of their leg on a trip. Shame, the exterior styling is gorgeous.

There a fellow Tennessean who got the non-PHEV CX-90 for 8 passengers and he got 8 neighborhood teenagers, they were all between 5.10 and 6.1 in height and the 3 on the back didn’t look uncomfortably squooshed… They looked alright…
I think this would be great for my mom and her friends since they’re all below 5.7…

McLaren is a boutique manufacture while Mazda sold 1.1M vehicles last year(363k in the USA,)
