    I raised ducklings & goslings years ago using an older styled incubator. Candling refers to holding an egg up to a light source to see signs of embryo growth. In this case she needs to use the cape to keep outdoor light out

      @@lockandloadlikehell I think beak-clacking may be the start of the greeting ritual. When the albatross land and approach each other, beak clacking seems to come first, then a sort of head bowing, craning the head back, and then long, mournful-sounding calls. This seems to be a greeting. (Would love it if an expert could explain.)
      The giant shoebill bird bows to humans, then gets insulted if humans don't bow back. Should a human do that, the shoebill bows again, and adores the human. Bird rituals and weird and wonderful. :)

Albatross ancestors chose remote islands as nesting sites - _because they had no predators._ Once humans arrived in ships, rats arrived. Rats will eat a chick alive, while a bewildered parent watches. They have no idea what to do. (This is also how we actually lost the Dodo, according to new research. Rat-gnawed bones, not human cutmarks on most remains.)

I'm around geese regularly and they recognize me as soon as I approach them (no matter if I come up with bicycle or by foot, in summer with T-Shirt or in winter in jacket and with hat). They can read faces, it's amazing! Geese also like some persons, others not so much or at all. I'm always friendly to them so they're friendly to me. It's absolutely great to spend time with them. Birds were a longtime considered to be stupid, but they're not at all, on the contrary. Geese are very social, intelligent and highly developed. Also, a bird with a wing span of 11ft. Beak clicking is a sharp, consistent "clicking" sound used when a bird feels threatened, or is protecting a particular object or space. Often accompanied by neck stretching and sometimes the raising of a foot, it is a signal that the bird is defending territory or possessions, and is trying to ward off the "intruder".

    • @cmdrstarlord6645
      @cmdrstarlord6645 4 роки тому +16

      @ykv Jaheim perhaps not always. Some birds appear to be capable of recognition, and some might just trust certain people enough to allow them to come close without an aggressive response, or perhaps recognise a routine if done enough times, or maybe recognise the actions or/and circumstances.

    • @cmdrstarlord6645

      @ykv Jaheim I have done a lot more than watch a few videos, but I don't think I use Instagram. I have observed animal behaviour, including birds, and I have also done research. This is what I have been doing quite a bit for the past 12-15 years, and guess what? There are plenty of articles stating that some experiments on birds suggest that some species are capable of recognising people.
