Cher's last wail while weeping over his body gets me everytime, nomatter how many times I've seen this movie over the years her cry still sounds so believably real and unbearably agonizing.
Cher is so good in this movie ! The letter scene itself should have deserved her an Oscar ! Definitely my favorite film of hers. Thank you for your reaction !
When it was released a lot of the public already knew the ending, so we weren't shocked. His affliction is exceptionally rare, only 20 cases were ever recorded in history at the time, and when he passed it was news because he was so exceptional and well liked. This movie is truly a forgotten jem, what film making should be about.
I agree. Would also teach to think with their heart instead of their mind. Especially in high school. Too much thinking that it's cool to be cruel. I had the thoughts of 'well maybe it's best for everyone if I wasn't around'. Meeting the girl that took me for me really changed all that. Been with her to this day...and married!
I don't agree in the sense of every kid should watch this movie because there's swearing violence and drugs but if a kid can look past that and just look at Rocky's life then that's okay but still has a Christian I just don't know because I think as a kid at the age of 14 15 years then they might be a little more ready and mature to watch this movie. As a Christian I don't like the drug scenes and a few swear words but other than that I do like the story of rocky...✍️✝️❤️
I’m mixed on this statement. Honestly. From my heart, I agree with it 100%. But, I did see this movie when I was eight years old and it traumatized me, at the time. I love the movie, now. As far as the age issue, I say, tentatively, that it’s likely a case by case basis.
I watched this movie several times from the age of 10 and up. I think it depends on the maturity of the child and only a parent can accurately decide if this movie would be okay for viewing. It's such a beautiful 80's movie and Cher should've won an academy award.
SO glad you're viewing this beauty. I hope a lot of people notice your viewing and decide to check out the flick for themselves. This film scores on so many cylinders. A tour de force of writing, directing, understated performances all around. There were a lot of massive flicks in 1985, but this one's heart gave it a long run and attention in cinema's, much less nominations and awards. Kudo's to the person who recommended this for you.
Kyle, you're a class act for choosing and reacting to this movie. More people need to see this movie. It's an absolute classic and so many people don't know it even exists. Both Cher and Stolz are great. Cher, after finding her son gone, looking for something, anything to dull the pain she's feeling but alas she's sober because of her promise to Rocky. Hard-hitting ending, but a powerful movie overall.
Yay finally someone reacts to this movie. Another great movie with Cher in it is called Mermaids(it’s not actually about mermaids lol) and it also has Winona Ryder and Christina Ricci in it
Always loved this movie since I was a kid .. very underrated acted film.. Stoltz, Cher, Elliot , and even Dern do a great job to bring this story and Rocky Dennis to life.. it’s super interesting to see an Oscar winning actress in Cher and her interpretation of Rusty’s reaction to Rocky’s death She runs through the 5 stages of grief in 3 minutes.. Blaming a Spanish test for him staying home- “denial” Telling him to make himself Well- “bargaining” Trashing the kitchen-“anger” Crying over him- “depression” Putting the pins back on the map-“acceptance” Great job Great movie
Wonderful, heartfelt reaction. You're definitely one of my favorite reactors. Each video is even better than the one before it. Keep it up! Reactions are getting me through some tough times this winter, so I really appreciate your contributions.
OMG I've been wanting to see someone react to this movie. Its based on a real guy named Roy Dennis... so sad. Such an amazing movie that shockingly a lot of people haven't seen and UGH it makes me cry every time I see it.
I saw this movie in the theatre and I could not look left or right at the end - I was an absolute mess from weeping. The grief consumed me. Watching you get weepy brought it all back - this story hurts my heart. Thank you for the lovely reaction. P.S. - I left you a bunch of words and such in your reaction to 'The Void'. Great reaction!
Hey. Thankfully UA-cam emails me comments because for some reason yours on The Void was removed. I’ll definitely check the channel you recommended out.
Great movie choice. Actually just re-watched this a few weeks ago myself. Apparently the real life Rocky did write that poem, but I believe his real life mother was not as positive an aspect in his life. Oddly he died from a random heart issue that didn't appear to be related to his bone growth disorder. Hence how unexpected it was. Another heart-breaking true story I really loved is Glory.
It's nice to see someone do a reaction to this, which it's understandable why many would shy away under it's circumstance. It's very touching and I find relatable with life.
I think this movie addresses, judging people based on appearances in a multitude of ways. Not only with Rocky, but with his family who loved him more than anything. It was a movie that made me cry when I watched it the first time more than a decade ago, and it made me cry again, watching your reaction.
this movie is very inspiring it makes you very humble and grateful for what you have,,god bless these actors and the young man who died and gave this to us all
The actor who plays Rocky is also the original actor for Back to the Future for which they recorded for the first four weeks only to reshoot his scenes when Michael j fox became available
Man.... so sad to see Roy L Dennis die he was the best. Thanks for your reaction i was probably like 7 when I saw a clip from the movie not the full one. I saw the movie on my like mature age thank you for watching it.
I saw this movie in 1992 in middle school.I found it edutainment yet it's heart rendering to see actual photos of rocky. He suffered headaches from his illness. It makes me sad to hear.Though films such as this incline me to take life more seriously, which is good
I love that they used the song "Ripple" by the Grateful Dead on the radio in the background during the last scene. Perfect underpinning for the sorrow and beauty of love from Cher's character and Rocky's personality.
This was a movie about a boy's life and he has an unusual condition, rather than a movie about a condition a boy has and how it impacts him. The stereotype of this story is the individual overcomes the condition, or the bullying they get, or the obstacles in their path. In the end you are supposed to be cheering and happy that they have triumphed. This movie just gave us a snapshot of a kid's life. That's all. And it's beautiful and moving and real.
I am presently trying to refind where I can watch this movie again and ran into your reaction video. I LOVE your reaction and it is wonderful to see someone watch and react to an 80s movie whi did not grow up in that generation because a lot of 80s movies do still contain a lot of the bias and such and thus it becomes hard to get younger generations to understand what it was like for Gen Xers and prior living in this world back than...because even with bias those movies were often all we had to hold onto and Mask was one of those movies that helped us survive through that 💛
Thank you. The real Rusty Dennis approved the script. Even though that meant she wouldn't be cast in the most positive light. I've read that the director, Peter Bogdanovich, actually can't stand Bikers. But he had to show them as somewhat sympathetic. Did his job.
I really enjoyed your reaction I guess 9 months ago when first watched and did again now, but I just now realized that apparently they changed the music and made a director's cut which is what you watched. I kind 'of wondered at the beginning when I remembered it being Katmandu by Bob Seger & it was Springstein, but since reaction videos aren't the whole movie but pieces, I wasn't sure if what I remembered was right before that or something. Anyway apparently they changed the whole soundtrack & I don't know what else, since I've only ever seen the theatrical version & didn't know they had altered & come out with a director's cut, although the over-all movie and what it tells appears the same.
The Director originally wanted to use Bruce Springsteen music, it was Rocky's favorite. Bruce was cool with it, at some point they couldn't work the legal issues with copyright? So they used Bob Seger which I actually prefer. At the end when "Born in the USA" plays it's to show about a five year time jump from Bruce's last album The River.
Wikipedia is interesting. Here's what happened to the Mom and his half-brother (not mentioned in the movie): "Dennis's older half-brother, Joshua "John" Mason, died in 1987 at age 32 from complications of AIDS. Joshua did not appear and was not mentioned in . His mother, Rusty Tullis, died on November 11, 2006, at age 70 as a result of an infection following a motorcycle accident."
This movie was based on a true story. If I recollect right Cher got to meet the real rusty and rocky. Your reaction is honest and just amazing. Please keep making great reaction to movies!
The real impact with Somewhere in Time doesn’t happen until you see it a second time and realize who this old women, in the beginning, is and that she’s been waiting, and searching, all her life to say those heartbreaking words. “Come back to me.” A film that needs that second watching!
I saw this movie when it first came out. I’ve probably seen it 10 times since at least. And I still cry at the end. Every single time. Now that I know what’s gonna happen I start crying earlier. It was a great movie all the way around. Please God do not let them remake this movie. I’m tired of them remaking the great 80s movies. The remakes are always trash. This movie, breakfast club, etc. needs to be left alone and in their original format.
@@MyNameIsKyle_Reactions yes she was in some very good movie. She won an Oscar for Moonstruck which came out in 1987. The movie Suspect was very good as well.
Yes, a great film, and great acting, but the sad ending, and no CGI effects, tends to keep it out of a mega hit. If you want to know more about the illness, check out "Elephant Man," I believe it was the same type of deformity.

Another Jim Carrey movie to watch, when you have a chance, is The Truman Show. Just discovered your channel via your Airplane reaction (and subscribed when I saw this movie, Mask, and the Terminator movies in the list of your uploads... good variety outside of your favorite horror genre). 😀👍
This is the story of a real person. So please everyone be respectful.
Amen Kyle ,Rocky was an incredible young man such a fantastic story and the real Rocky he was a brave amazing courageous special R.I.P. Rocky❤❤❤❤❤
When she puts those pins on the map and says "Now you can go anywhere you want baby." Wow, I lost it.
Cher's last wail while weeping over his body gets me everytime, nomatter how many times I've seen this movie over the years her cry still sounds so believably real and unbearably agonizing.
Exactly!
She was supposed to win an Oscar for that performance
But was rewarded 2 years later for Moonstruck which garnered her an Oscar

I’ve heard the songs in the movie are some of The Real Rocky Denis favourites. He really loved Springsteen.
Aw when I saw you tear up at Rocky's headache scene I was like, ohhh he is NOT prepared for the end! Lol. 😭

Harry Carey Jr. He's the old guy. Sam Elliot, Eric Stoltz is Rocky.

Love the Funhouse music thats playing while Gar is kissing Red.

The real life Rocky wasn't buried in a cemetery. His body was donated to science.
The real mom (Florence "Rusty" Tullis) passed away in 2006
Have you ever watched 'Repo: The Genetic Opera!' ? It's a truly awesome cult horror rock opera. It's so great!
Please try watching the movie the straight story by David Lynch it’s based on a real person also
That was a very nice reaction

DVD is really the only place. Some copyright music issues have stopped any streaming platform from getting it.
For other films directed by Peter Bogdanovich, that won Best Supporting Oscars, try The Last Picture Show (Actor & Actress) or Paper Moon (Actress).
3-6 months to live was his diagnosis each time.
