When clue originally came out in movie theaters, different theaters would have different endings. That's why they showed the different endings at the end.
Yep. I saw the A ending, where Miss Scarlet was the murderer. But the last one was the only one to answer all the questions, including why there was no informant on Mr Green: he was an FBI plant.
At the theater I went to as a kid, they got one of each ending. The idea was that when you were talking about the film at work/school.. etc. you'd find that someone else saw a different ending, all to get you to see it one or two more times. Brilliant idea, not sure how well it helped to boost ticket sales.
There was also a fourth ending that either wasn't shot or just wasn't included, but was in the novelization of the film. In that one, Wadsworth was Mr. Boddy, he'd poisoned all of the suspects and tried to get away, but ended up running afoul of a police dog
@@TuxKamen I read the children's novelization in middle school. In it, it showed photographs from that ending, including Wadsworth in the car making his getaway, and dog in the backseat. Other than the “Flames on the side of my face” speech, my other favorite line is when Mrs. White says, “It’s a matter of life after death. Now that he’s dead I have a life.”
I love when Mrs. White says, when they discover Mr. Boddy's body is gone, "We should have made sure he was dead." and Mrs. Peacock responds "How? By cutting off his head I suppose." Mrs. White then says "That wasn't called for." I die.
TRIBUTE TO TIM CURRY, the most underrated British actor. If he hadn't sadly had a stroke in 2012, he'd still be wowing us with every role and would undoubtedly have been knighted by the Queen by now. He originated SO MANY characters: Frank-N-Furter, Rooster, Darkness, Wadsworth, *PENNYWISE*... even his Dr Frankenstein in the 1995 "Frankenstein" FMV PC game was award-worthy, as was his voice acting in FernGully (1992). He's often accused of hamming it up, but that's his strength: he has no chill, and it's sublime! Sadly, his stroke means he's unlikely to grace us with future performances. But he's still a living legend and I look forward to the day when we might be able to call him SIR Tim Curry. C'mon, Queen Elizabeth II! Make it happen, please!
I didn't even know he was dead. The guy was straight out brilliant and I always wished he would have been a bigger star. Just for being in great roles on Rocky Horror, Legend and IT make him a legend(no pun intended) in my eyes. I'll check out the Frankenstein thing.
@@johnnyskinwalker4095 He is not dead, thankfully. He had a stroke, and is now in a wheel chair, so he is unable to use the hilarious physicality he brought to every role. Also, he still has one hell of a sense of humor. 😀
"I'm so bad at critical thinking" - no you're not. This movie is a masterpiece in keeping your mind too busy to think even a moment, with too many moving parts. I adore this movie and am so glad you watched it!
Tim Curry must've been a real athlete. He has a few movies where he's just a juggernaut of energy and activity. Rocky Horror also showed his manic energy level.
Without a doubt what makes this movie so great is the cast! Everyone brought their A game and not a single one of them just phoned in their performance!
All eight of the main cast members- Curry, Kahn, Brennan, Mull, Lloyd, McKean, Warren, and Camp- all pull their weight together here and it’s actually really incredible to see an ensemble work *this* well together.
"I, am, your singing telegram" *BANG!!!* Best cameo ever (and I believe it once held the record for the shortest amount of time for a speaking character to be introduced and then killed off, or something to that effect)
I can't find any speaking roles that were shorter, but Ellen Burstyn was nominated for an Emmy for a 14 second cameo that included 38 words of dialog. On the other hand, Seth Green had a cameo in one of the Iron Man movies that consisted of 14 frames at 60 fps, which is less than a quarter of a second.
"Between his ego and her titties there's no room on those stairs." I almost choked on my cereal! HAHAHAHA! I saw this back in the 80's and forgot how funny it was. Your reactions make it even funnier, thank you! I think you'd really enjoy "Death Becomes her" With Meryl Streep, Goldie Hawn and Bruce Willis.
There is also a great ensemble movie called "Murder by Death" with parodies of all the great movie detectives. Mrs. Peacock is in that one as the secretary to Peter Falk's Sam Spade parody. Also naked Alec "Obi-wan Konobi" Guinness naked
And a follow-up called The Cheap Detective...but kinda requires having watched some other detective (and Bogart) flicks. At least, it helps put things in perspective.
Christopher Lloyd did look young but this was also the same time period when he was filming Back To The Future. Multiple endings were filmed with the idea of having different endings at different screenings so to encourage people to see it multiple times without knowing what to fully expect. Madeline Khans "the flames!" scene was totally improvised. The actor playing Colonel Mustard was standing beside her actually pinching himself of the leg so he wouldn't laugh. So happy you loved it. One or two memes will be born from this viewing. And congratulations on 50,000 subscribers. Now watch The Rocky Horror Picture Show. It is from 1975 and stars Tim Curry and Susan Sarandon. Tim Curry plays a bit of a song and dance man.....or not.
In fact, even though it was clearly promoted as a wacky comedy, Paramount tried to sell the movie as an “Interactive game” with the multiple endings (Clue had a series of interactive-mystery laserdiscs at the time), and had theaters even hand out game slips with the tickets. Why? I still have no idea.
@@ericjanssen394 omg, I wish I had seen those!! I missed it in the theatre and had to watch it on cable later. I absolutely loved that board game and this movie!
The cast didn’t know how it ended because they had them act out all possible endings and they filmed them all. They didn’t know what the heck was up. The multiple endings ended up being shown in different theaters, and then for video/dvd/streaming release they just cleverly edited it to what you see now. I love it. So good!
Yes, but when Christopher Lloyd is first introduced he's wearing makeup to make him look old, the same for Lea Thompson, Crispin Glover, and Tom Wilson. It was like the mid-90's before I realized that the last 3 were actually the same age as Michael J. Fox. The point is, a lot of people assumed that Lloyd was older than he was because of that initial impression. In Part II, Lloyd didn't want to wear the makeup, so they came up with the line about him getting a facelift.
@@leonielson7138 That's not quite true... They weren't the same age at all... Michael J Fox is 22years younger than Christopher Lloyd... They were made to look much further apart in age though, agree with that.

Colonel mustard played by Martin Mull. He was a comedic actor who was everywhere on TV in the 70's and 80's. Always played a loveable goof. Favorite quote. "If you can remember the 1970's you weren't really there."
Tim Curry is a gift to this planet. Love him. He played the clown in Stephen King's IT in the 90's for the made for TV version of that film. This is one of the best casts in any film in history. So glad you liked it!
I saw a meme where it says you can tell a lot about a person, if you ask them.. what movie do you know tim curry from? Everyone will give a wildly different answer
Probably my favorite hidden "clue" in this movie is the colors of the cars. Each car coincides with the color of the pseudonym... and of course Wadsworth's car is black (Mr. Boddy's other name in Clue is "Mr Black"). it's also amazing that on a re-watch, every scene is exactly as described by Wadsworth as far as "who wasn't there" even when it's a different person for a different ending. It's amazing.
Christopher Lloyd did this at about the same time as he filmed "Back to the Future". This role was closer to his actual appearance. He got a lot of makeup in BTTF to make him look older.
Mr. Green is played by Michael McKean, who is Lenny of Lenny & Squiggy fame from Laverne & Shirley. He was actually the state trooper who pulled over Steve Martin and John Candy in Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. Future movies to watch with Michael McKean may include: This is Spinal Tap, 1941, Used Cars, Young Doctors in Love, D.A.R.Y.L., and Earth Girls are Easy.
I’m so glad you loved this as much as I do! I quote it all the time. “Communism was just a red herring.” “I’m a butler. I butle.” “To make a long story short (too late!)” I could go on but I’ll stop. 😁
So, the word "colonel" comes from the Latin, "columna" meaning a column of troops. It got passed to the Italians, who streamlined to "colonna," which got further Italianized to "colonello." The French modified it to "coronel;" which the English picked up; which is why we pronounce it "kernel." A colonel is in charge of a brigade--from 3,000 to 5,000 soldiers, depending on the size and number of battalions in your brigade. A battalion is commanded by a lieutenant-colonel. The lieutenant-colonel is also addressed as "colonel," but wears a different symbol--a silver leaf, whereas a colonel wears a silver eagle.
@@bninem1397 Colonel Sanders was a "Kentucky Colonel." This means he did not earn his title through military service; but rather was awarded his title by the Governor of Kentucky, Ruby Laffoon, in 1935. This is usually given in response to notable or extraordinary service to the State (Commonwealth) of Kentucky--in Sanders' case, the naming of his restaurant "Kentucky Fried Chicken"--and entitles the recipient to the use of the style "Honorable." In common use, however, they are just usually addressed as "Colonel."
French-speaker here to tell you that the word colonel in French is "colonel" and is pronounced exactly like it is spelled: CO-LO-NEL. There's no R sound at all, so I'm not sure where you can got that from.
I love Lesley Ann Warren (Miss Scarlet). She gave the performance of her career in Victor/Victoria (1982) which 100% you need to see ASAP. It's hilarious, plus great music. She received multiple award nominations for the role, including an Oscar nomination.
Victor/Victoria is soooo funny! It really is the epitome of the sex farce-campy songs, breaking the fourth wall, guys in drag, pratfalls, well-timed creeping about, combined with Oscar-level acting, top-notch music (“Crazy World” is one of my favorite songs of all time), and acceptance of LGBT people that was quite groundbreaking in early ‘80s Hollywood.
One thing I always found funny was how no one even suspects that maybe Mr. Green killed Yvette, when they made a point of saying that if one of the eight of them died, they'd know the murderer was his or her partner.
So many good comedic actors in this movie! Yea, Ashleigh, you guessed right on a few of them. But Michael McKean (Mr. Green) was one of the musicians in Spinal Tap! Martin Mull (Col. Mustard) is also a long time, mainly TV, comedic actor. Jane Wiedlin (singing telegram girl) was also a member of the girl group the "Go Go's".

When I was in high school I was a theatre rat. I'm an illustrator now, and back then that translated into me being The Artsy Kid so I made it up to head of crew and lighting. It basically meant I ran the light board while wearing a two way radio headset to simultaneously give orders to my crew from back in the media booth. The last production I was a part of was our own original stage version of Clue, based on this movie. It was _so. Much. FUN._ Our butler was PERFECT for the role and nailed the rapid fire monologue of solutions at the end after not being able to get through it without a mistake for the entirely of rehearsals the week before, so the crew and I were all quietly cheering over our headsets when he did it _flawlessly_ on opening night. The school was about to completely renovate the auditorium over that summer, too, so we were able to completely DESTROY IT with nails, paint, and actual construction work for our set of the mansion. Not that any of that matters to you, but it's a fond memory for me. 😅

Seconded - after watching "The Original Series" although I hate calling StarTrek that as that wasn't part of it's title. Galaxy Quest was not a sequel, follow up, or reboot, but the other as a primer to better appreciate the in-jokes of the parody.
Coincidentally, Christopher Lloyd was in this and Back to the Future in the same year. Mr. Green was played by Michael McKean, who was Lenny on Laverne and Shirley, David St. Hubbins in This Is Spinal Tap (another movie you should react to if you haven’t seen it), and-most recently- Chuck, the main character’s very messed-up brother, on Better Call Saul. Col. Mustard was Martin Mull, who was on Roseanne and played the principal on Sabrina the Teenage Witch. He also hosted the talk show parody, Fernwood/America 2 Night, with Fred Willard back in the late 70’s.

Yes! I came here to say this! I've seen the stage play several times and searched for months to buy it on DVD. Michael Caine, Carol Burnett, Christopher Reeve-a wonderful ensemble cast.
To my knowledge, the term Colonel started out being pronounced with the L from the word Colonnade. A Colonel was an officer who commanded a column of soldiers in the Italian and French army during the 17th century. But the Spaniards later started using it with an "R" and it stuck to this day.

" Madeline Kahn was in is What's Up, Doc? If memory serves it was Kahn's breakout role. " and was followed the next year as " Trixie DeLight " in " Paper Moon ".
When the movie was shown in theaters, the screenings had only one of the endings, A, B, or C. It wasn't until the video release that all of the endings were compiled. And how could you cut out Kahn's best moment? "Flames..flames on the sides of my face!"
This is my all-time favorite comedy and I never get tired of watching it. There's definitely a whole generation that can quote this movie word for word because it was always on TV in the afternoons when we were growing up (I'm guesstimating those of us in the 35-45 range, but give or take a few years). A few years ago, a movie theater in NYC screened the film, and it was so interesting seeing everyone in my age group mouth every word, and the people that were my parents' age and older hadn't even heard of the movie (but they laughed out loud throughout, which made me happy that they enjoyed it!). "But that was his job. He was an illusionist."
"But he never reappeared."
"He wasn't a very good illusionist."
I always feel that in some alternate timeline, Ms. White aged into Lucille Bluth.
He's done some voice acting since his stroke, and revisited rocky horror as the narrator in the remake

And thus spoke an entire generation. 😇
Eh, if you’re keeping track of who is present when the murders are committed you come to the inevitable conclusion that there are multiple killers.
It really takes multiple viewings to really take in all of the details.
Tim Curry must've been a real athlete. He has a few movies where he's just a juggernaut of energy and activity. Rocky Horror also showed his manic energy level.
well, he actually had to go to the hospital after this but i don't know the details
"I, am, your singing telegram" *BANG!!!*
Best cameo ever (and I believe it once held the record for the shortest amount of time for a speaking character to be introduced and then killed off, or something to that effect)
I think it still holds that record.
Funniest death scene ever. Cracks me up
Well, Jane loves punk music, so it fits. Quick quick quick.
Murder by death is great
I discovered Murder By Death one night when I was channel surfing. Saw Peter Falk's name, and stayed to watch. Was not disappointed, it's brilliant.
Not only that, there were different endings just like the game.
Then after the initial run, the studio re-released it with all the endings.

Yup. A weird and abrupt moment. It was like her brain was stuttering.
I know!! I was waiting for it!! 😂😂😂
The cast didn’t know how it ended because they had them act out all possible endings and they filmed them all. They didn’t know what the heck was up. The multiple endings ended up being shown in different theaters, and then for video/dvd/streaming release they just cleverly edited it to what you see now. I love it. So good!
Ashley: that’s a YOUNG Christopher Lloyd!
Me: It came out the exact same year as Back To The Future! 🤣🤣🤣

I love this movie and will watch over and over. I love Madeline's line "husbands should be like tissues, strong, soft and disposable"
Christopher Lloyd did this at about the same time as he filmed "Back to the Future". This role was closer to his actual appearance. He got a lot of makeup in BTTF to make him look older.
He had also recently finished playing a character in much heavier makeup (Kruge) in 1984's Star Trek III: The Search for Spock.
Mr. Green is played by Michael McKean, who is Lenny of Lenny & Squiggy fame from Laverne & Shirley. He was actually the state trooper who pulled over Steve Martin and John Candy in Planes, Trains, and Automobiles.

_Mmm_ , that's good philology!
What about Colonel Sanders?
@@bninem1397 He got it in the library with the herbs and spices.

It was _so. Much. FUN._
Our butler was PERFECT for the role and nailed the rapid fire monologue of solutions at the end after not being able to get through it without a mistake for the entirely of rehearsals the week before, so the crew and I were all quietly cheering over our headsets when he did it _flawlessly_ on opening night.

She was always finding roach clips, empty cocaine vials, DDDD bras used to launch rice and water condoms, etc. The best story was when someone got into the snack-bar and replaced the hot dogs on the hot-dog roller with four 10-inch black dildos.
Yes, she does. Properly, in a theater, with Hubband, after the madness is over. If you're gonna do it, do it right!
@@tedgay8427 that is so funny! I haven't gotten to see it with people but my brother has told me so many stories. We grew up in Miami, FL and in guessing those viewings were really wild.
When the movie came out in theaters they had three different endings and depending on which theater you saw The movie in ending your saw.
Gotta watch the movie that inspired this. Murder by Death (1976). All star comedic cast and Eileen Brennan (Mrs. Peacock) is actually in it.
Christopher Lloyd was the same age in this as he was when he played Doc Brown. You'll seem him actually much younger in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (his first film).
Lloyd also appears in Mr. Mom (John Hughes), The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and The Addams Family.
If you watched the animated film Anastasia from 1997, he was the voice of Rasputin.
You missed The Dream Team. Another film I really like.
Colonel Mustard, Martin Mull, was also in Mr. Mom.
Let’s also not forget that he did play a few villainous roles on screen. He played Butch Cavendish in The Legend of The Lone Ranger (1981) and Commander Kruge in Star Trek Iii: The Search for Spock (1984)
Fall in love w Christopher Lloyd all over again...
Watch the TV show 'Taxi'🤣
@@thereturningshadow I think Ashleigh would like Mr. Mom. Hopefully she'll get around to it.
The Fugitive from 1993. Harrison Ford's best movie. Perfect cast, perfect pacing, pretty much flawless.
@@MUSICLOVER23429 No way, it's too simple.
The Fugitive has an amazing Harrison Ford performance. Definitely one of his best. But Blade Runner 2049 has my money for his best dramatic performance.
@@MUSICLOVER23429 That's a good point. Maybe familiar is a better word.
@@AlasdairGR Yeah, his acting is top in Blade Runner 2049 and Witness, and also the strange Misquito Coast which was directed by the same guy who directed Witness, Peter Weir. Even so, I dont think best performances make best movies; some other ingredients were missing.
When this was released in theatres, each cinema received a copy with the different endings. We didn't really learn of the multiple endings until it was released on tape.
One of my top 5 movies. Absolutely fantastic humor and pacing. An All-Star cast. I grew up watching this routinely on the local station's daily movie roster.
A very similar movie is "Murder by Death" from 1976. An amazing cast in a mansion mystery setting. One thing to know going in is that the guests are all parodies of famous book detectives (Miss Marple, Sam Spade, Charlie Chan, and Nick and Nora Charles.) It will make it so much better to read up on those names a bit before you see the movie. There's a dog in it...
So true. If you don't know the detectives in "Murder by Death" then the humor falls flat. That's why "Clue" is so much better, you don't really need to know the characters to enjoy the humor.
Has anyone suggested Victor/Victoria or My Cousin Vinnie? I caught these two recently and had forgotten how good they are.
Victor Victoria is such a great film.
My Cousin Vinny is sooo good. I laugh the whole time I watch it.
Yas, both amazing!!
"I had a couple mimosas" That's perfect for you watching this movie.
Clue is one of the best memories from my childhood. Everytime I watch it I remember sitting with my Dad and my brother and just laughing hysterically. Its my favorite Tim Curry role!
This movie has so much random humor. It's impossible not to find parts to laugh at even if you've already seen it before. I'll agree that it doesn't get enough love as other 80's movies, but it's a great one. Plus...Tim Curry.
I can't believe you skipped the shower part! That's the funniest scene
I've decided that I am going to request "BETTER OFF DEAD" on every video until you watch it. lol
Madeline Khan has a great performance in a wonderful movie called PAPER MOON. It is a GREAT MOVIE. Highly recommend....................................do it.
"Truly, a sight to behold."
I want my $2
"TENTacles . . . N-T . . . Big difference."
"I'm sorry your mother blew up, Ricky"
More Ashleigh reviewing movies after a couple of drinks 😂😂
DONT TEMPT ME BECUASE I WILL DO IT.
I am actually in favor of this too. But like a once a month thing. Dont want this channel to take a dark turn 😂
@@horrorfiend6667 Yeah we don't want to have a subscriber level labeled "liver"
@@awkwardashleigh DO IT
How about she watches Scarface and takes a shot at every f-bomb.
It's weird how Ashleigh has a life outside of my phone..
I remember seeing this back in the theater when I was a kid. I got the Miss Scarlet ending. I never knew about the other ones until it came out on VHS.
I liked the Miss Scarlet ending best anyway, I was pretty confused when they started playing those other endings right after (and then I was kind of disappointed that we didn't get an ending for each protagonist)
Flames...on the side of my face...lol. My daughter played Mrs. White in the production of Clue at HVA in Knox. Mr Green was the guy that played Lenny in Laverne and Shirley. Martin Mull was Colonel Mustard. He was in Roseanne and some others.
