Woow now I know. Need to see your video many times a lot to take in. Very useful and good explained. Did my first atmos song and theres no way I go back to "yesterdays" stereo. Its like when mono went stereo.
I am not hugely experienced but one great suggestion I have heard often is to mix entirely in stereo with your project, especially if you have a less powerful computer, then turn on Atmos and mix again in that setting!
You are the best. I had no Idea how all this works and how to mix in Atmos. After watching your videos i thgink i am technical able to do my first dolby atmo mix. Thank you !
This video is the single most important reference I've found that thoroughly explains how to master in Dolby ATMOS using Logic Pro X. I am beyond appreciative. Thank you SO MUCH. Oh - and I'm buying your ATMOS book. If it is half as good as this video, it will be money well spent.
Nicely Done. Have never used Logic, Been on Digi/Avid since Sound Tools/SDII. Will order Logic now with my new MacBook Pro max. Looking Forward to new Videos,
You select Binaural in the Monitoring Format pop-up menu of the Atmos Plugin and bounce your project as a regular stereo file. This is then not a stereo (format) and instead a 2-channel binaural audio signal that you can post on UA-cam or any streaming service (or press a vinyl). UA-cam only sees a 2-channel audio file and plays it back. Make sure you post a note that you listener need to put on headphones to hear the 3D sound properly.
@@MusicTechExplained , thanks a lot for your reply, it was very clarifying. One last question. Shall I click the checkbox "Surround Bounce" when bouncing? Does it make any difference for binaural material? Once again, thank you very much!
@@rogeriomarques7260 No, don'' select Surround. A Binaural mix is a 2-channel mix. Surround is only needed to create a multi-channel audio file (as interleaved or split mono)
Thanks a lot for this great video, it definitely clarified things i didn’t understand about mixing dolby atmos or converting a stereo mix to dolby. Is there a video where you explained how to master the dolby atmos mix? since any mastering intented plugin after the atmos plugin doesn’t have any effect on the object tracks.
Mastering in the traditional way doesn't exist for Dolby Atmos. Mastering engineers trying to figure out what and how to do it. Mainly they take the ADM BWF file and tweak the objects and beds. One new aspect of mastering is the quality control because many Dolby Atmos mix from the bedroom room producer sector are mixing on headphones or compromised acoustic Atmos setups. THe mastering, done in a proper 7.1.4 (or higher) can detect any spatial issues.
Thanks for these explanations, awesome video. Q1: how do you measure the -18LUFS? do you place the loudness meter after the atmos plugin and must you be in 7.1.4 monitoring mode? Q2: how to export the mp4 that the dolby renderer has? This is convenient to export on other devices to test the consumer based atmos file.
Q1: Yes, you place the Loudness Meter Plugin after the Atmos Plugin. You set the Monitoring Format to 7.1.2 and measure the integrate Loudness of the song. Q2: There is currently no way in Logic to listen to your Atmos Binaural mix how it sounds on Apple Music. All the Binaural Render settings only have an affect when you bounce the Binaural Mix. The recommendation is that you leave all BInarual Render settings at "Mid", that should be the closest to what happens during Spatial Audio playback of your Atmos Mix on Apple Music. The MP4 export option is only available when you use the separate Dolby Atmos Renderer app.
Hello! Can I do my Dolby mix inside Cubase on a PC and the QC on a Mac using the Dolby Renderer? I only have an M1 Air and not feeling confident about mixing on it…. Any tips on how to better control the top 4 monitors? Any good practice in therms of bed vs objects? How and what to send to LFE? Any mastering for Dolby Atmos tips? Thank you.
THe only way to do the Cubase>Logic thing is to export your Atmos mix as an ADM BWF file that you can open in Logic. About all the other questions, watch videos and interviews of Atmos mixing engineers because everybody is trying to find the solutions for that. Mastering in the traditional way doesn't exist for Dolby Atmos, because it is Objet-based not Channel-based where you can slap on a Limiter and call it a day.
Your Dolby Atmos project still works when set to any other Frame Rate in Logic. However, the delivery specs for a Dolby Atmos Music file is 24fps, requested by Dolby. So when you Export your Atmos Project to ADM BWF, you have to make sure it is set to 24fps. When bouncing to a channel-based file, it doesn't matter. Dolby Atmos is using other frame rates when it is the audio for a movie project, then the frame rate is determined by the movie file format.
The Dolby Audio Bridge functions as the connection between Logic and the DAMS. THe individual Tracks in Logic are routed to one of the 128 input channels of the Dolby Atmos Renderer app. You load the Dolby Atmos Music Panner on the individual Tracks in Logic and there you set the Audio Input of the same output channel that you route the audio on that specific channel. I explain that in my book "Mixing in Dolby Atmos - #1 How it Works" with a detailed demonstration of the Music Panner.
A mine of excellent information. Thanks! Will be looking out for more videos, soon.
Awesome, thank you!

Thank you, Edgar! This is very valuable and beautifully presented material and knowledge!

Thank you! I got your book too :)
G.O.A.T - take notes folks!!!
Is it better to use -6db on the pan law or -3 while using atmos?
Great explanation, but how do you mix down if youtube does not support Dolby Atmos?

Thanx a lot for this Video. I have 1 question, is it possible to integrate Dear VR pro into the Logic Atmos mixer?

Glad you like you. Indeed, it was a lot of work.
I wonder why the two top speakers are top of side speakers? When looking studio pictures it looks like two top speakers are top of main L&R.
I got it. Its about difference 7.1.2 and 7.1.4 and object tracks.
