I love that the 'L' button can be used to dim other tracks rather than used as a hard solo, the amount of dim is set in control room. It's great for focusing on a track, yet still in context.
This video has been immensely helpful for me. Everything you said about why you switched to Cubase is spot on with my own evaluation of it. I love Logic like an old friend. But the reliability issues have really been a problem. And with support being almost nonexistent, I can hardly justify continuing to use it. Like you, I updated everything and was still having the exact same issues. Thanks so much for making this!
I'm glad it was helpful. Yes I feel it's a shame that Apple haven't kept on top of the technical details with Logic because is very nearly a really great mixing DAW and I love the work flow in Logic. But having sample accurate automation in Cubase means it takes me half the time to write effective automation (because I was spending so much time in Logic trying to get the timing to line up well on AUXs). Then there are the stability issues with 3rd party plugin in Logic which like you have plagued me through several computers and OS versions without improving.
I tried cubase, immediatly bought the pro licence a week later, it is lovely, was using reaper before.
Reaper is great, but cubase is just beautiful, such polished software.
Another nice feature of the Control Room is the cue sends. When mixing, I often use reference tracks(a rough mix, another song already mixed etc..). I have a Cue bus (I name it "Reference") set up in the CR that is not routed to any Speakers/output. I import the the reference tracks/rough mix to a track and do not route it anywhere, but send it to the Cue bus via a Cue sends on the Track (There is 4 of them). I put that track in Solo Defeat (Alt-click on solo). That way, I can always switch instantly between my mix and the reference mix with one button (Cue mix) in the Control Room regardless of the Solo or mute settings on the other tracks. It still goes through the inserts in the control room for listening corrections/metering/Headphone plugins etc...

I actually switched from Cubase VST to Logic in 2004, then to Ableton around 2006, and back to Cubase around 2010... especially love the group editing, warping, and comping from lanes...
The thing that bothered me most in Logic was the level drop when tracks were sent to auxes...
Btw, I love what you shared about the control panel...
I also use Sonarworks and can use them with my speakers, headphones, and cue mixes also...

Great summary! One thing I also love with Cubase, is the Direct Routing. Via Direct Routing I e.g. can get 8 extra sidechain sends. That way I can have 8 sends + 8 sidechain buses on every track. (Hold down Shift when activating several Direct Routings). So I use sends for FX sends that need adjustable levels, and Direct Routing for Sidechain that don't need adjustable levels (only on/off). One thing I miss from PT still is the ability to see all Volume levels, pans, routing, inserts and sends without the need of a context sensitive inspector on the left side of the screen as I don't use the mixer that much anymore in Cubase.

amazing video and one of the reasons i decided to demo both logic and cubase. one thing to note, you can save channel presets to be used throughout the entire program in pro tools. they can be saved to different folders, as well. i’m only aware of this change since February but that’s when i was looking for it.
Thanks. Unless it's changed recently, with Pro Tools you can import channels from other projects. I know some people save lots of projects with particular channel strips they want import. But that is an incredibly cumbersome way of working, having to open the import dialog and select what to import instead of just having it all there in a menu on each channel strip like most other DAWs. Maybe that's changed recently in Pro Tools and it's now available via the channel strip in a menu.,but I haven't seen it written about anywhere.
Amazing video, very complete! I started not long ago with Cubase 12 LE as my first DAW and always had doubts if the others were better, otherwise, I would prefer to learn in the others if Cubase were very limited, problematic, faulty, or lacking something important. Now I feel I'm on the right track and can move on to buy the Artist version. Thanks!

Comprehensive video! Thanks for putting this together. Switched to Cubase for a lot of the same reasons. Crazy that this video is a hour and you didn’t even go deep into midi editing, which usually pushes Cubase over the edge for people. Love the way you organize your plug-in folders. Going to work on mine now haha!
Yes the midi editor is great in Cubase that and the Score editor which is also great could have a whole video just for that.

@@mr.mikehunt4286 That's just not true Mike. Let's take just one example. In Cubase you can bounce multiple stems with and without FX, plus a stereo mix all in multiple formats all in the same bounce. You just can't do that in Logic.

@@heronislandstudio8054 omg, ofcourse you can, you select multiple tracks and choose bounce in place, you can even bounce a folder with both audio and midi to separate tracks/one track etc, the only thing logic could not do until 2014 was bounce aux/send tracks to a new track but most pple only do this when freezing tracks where still giving them errors cause they had too many and or a slow hd.

Marketing hype and fan boys had me convinced that Logic Pro was a much better product.
I bought Cubase Pro 12 since they removed ilok requirement and I am yet to explore it.
This video has vindicated my decision to go with Cubase.

Great review of positive features compared to Logic. Very helpful to me as I've been vacillating between the two. Your points made my mind up. By the way, in Cubase 12 you can see a virtual instrument from mixer window if you open channel editor (use a key command) and hit the Edit VST Instrument button. A couple of steps but still pretty fast.
It is really nice to hear about this. One can tell that you have really great knowledge about music production. And the things you compare is very advanced and hard to know without many years of professional use. Thanks for sharing! I`m a Cubase user since the very beginning and I think that working with MIDI ,Cubase is the best DAW! Also its the fastest way to make score of music. The drum editor is outstanding. Handling audio production is as great as any DAW. I´ve working with students for 30 years and its very easy to get going. To have such a great DAW for every kind of music production is great.But there are things that could be better. To many upgrades all the time is irritating and expensive. The synths are low budget. Such great DAW should include better sound quality in VST instruments. But if you accept buying plugins you should have a good life with small problems to handle. I have Halion6, Native instruments (I bought a Kontakt MIDI keyboard) and Addictive Drums 2. These plugins give me enough options for me. I think Steinberg have done a good job on audio processing. The FX sounds great so I don´t know whats missing there. Then I´ve also use Logic mainly to compare the DAW:s. But I compose music and use a lot of MIDI and therefore Cubase is outstanding!/Greatings!
You can color each lane of automation. Select and change color. Click on back ground is a preference. You can also have horizontal cross hairs at the same time to quickly compare levels. You can also draw on the event, pencil automation style and use the handles simultaneously. I seldom use volume automation. Multiple configurable mixers. Mixer snap shots. You can copy back and forth or import from session to session and include instruments, channel settings and plug ins. The instrument rack I like so much better. All VSTI’s in one place instead of having to search the mixer to work in the instrument. Better. Just name the channel and the “piano” icon on the mixer on the VSTI channel opens the instrument. Also, cubase allows you to add out puts to the VSTI as you want them. You don’t have to choose mono or stereo versions of the VSTI when opening it. Good comparison. I’d like to see an in depth midi comparison.

This vid came at the perfect time for me. I was a Logic user for 8-9 years before i switched to Windows in 2019 or '20, and over the past few years i've been trying to find my new go-to DAW to replace Logic. I spent time with Reaper and Studio One, but neither of them hit the mark for me. Reaper is impressive but i'm the same as you, i didn't like the ergonomics / layout. Studio One is okay but didn't feel like the perfect solution. I recently started trialling Cubase after a recommendation from a trusted audio friend and i can already feel like it's gonna be the one for me. This video really helped, i learned a lot, i'm definitely gonna commit to Cubase. Thanks for the vid!

But if you are using laptops, I would avoid Widows (my main rig is Windows right now BTW).

Thanks. Logic's Score in my opinion is a bug ridden nightmare. I have scored many things using it and it's always been problematic. From it forgetting the layout after reopening the file to stupid things like combining two different notes a semi-tone apart that occurs at the same point in time into a singe note head with both an accidental and a natural sign next to them. No classical musician I've ever worked with (which is a good number) had any idea how to read that (so they all have to be found and then separated one at a time by hand!). Tupplets are a nightmare too, there's no easy way to get them to display correctly. Cubase's Score is a lot better in my opinion.

Hey man, nice vid - really enjoying the walkthrough, especially since I’m daw curious.
Wanted to let you know that logic does have some of the features you wish it did-they’re just accessible in a different way.
Things like bouncing busses in place are possible if you pencil a region into the bus, for instance. Rendering an aux track is possible with the export command, which creates the ability to workaround for sonarworks if you want, without bypassing.
Double solo is also possible in the form of track solo and region solo, which I agree comes in super handy.
Mouse wheel resizing is achieved by holding two keys (I think alt and command but I have them by rote not name) and using the mouse wheel. Sounds like Cubase has this down really well tho.
I agree - that line is so important. In post production and podcast editing too, which has no grid. I have no idea why it’s not in pro tools.
Anyway all of this is moot if logic is unstable on your system, which I totally understand. But if you do get it to be stable, those features do await you back in lpx!
Thanks these are very useful tips! With Export, can you specify bouncing just a single AUX? The double solo thing you are describing is also how I do it in Logic but it's not quite the same as Cubase's double solo which is mixer channel based. That makes it a lot quicker and more flexible (at least for the way I work), plus you can also solo regions of course. I didn't know about the mouse wheel resizing! That's very handy. Thanks. Yes Logic became unstable on all three of my machines, gradually more and more over the past few versions. I'm still mixing in it regularly (because a lot of clients hand me logic projects) and am actually totally happy with it apart from the instability. Thanks again for the tips!
@@heronislandstudio8054 the way I do it is, I make the aux available to me in the arrange window (control t or create track from mixer window), and then I use the pencil to create a blank region. I stretch the region out from beginning to end, then j can export it like any other track (command e).
The nice thing about using regions on auxes in this way is you can also move automations really quickly if you’re moving an arrangement around. This is how I handle all my reverbs for fiction podcasts for instance-if I need to move a whole scene over to accommodate an edit, I can make sure I grab any associated automated effects on auxes as well and move them with the regions at the same time

One thing though I have to correct you: Logic has the double solo function as well, plus as well the solo defeat. Double solo: when you have a couple of tracks soloed, and you wanna here just one of those tracks solo (double solo) select it and use Control+S. solo defeat: hold Control and click Solo button.

What's the official name for it? Can't find anything on "double solo" in Logic.
@@barnyardrecordings Hi Barnyard. Official name I don't know. But Option-S command is soloing the selected track/channel. (the solo button on the track header). This is not the same as global Solo function. So this allows you to solo any number of tracks, and then click option-S to have a new soloed track within the soloed selection. :)
@@raffaelebossard4708 Thanks, I see. It's simply a higher priority solo mode. I noticed there is a risk of unknowingly using it and having strange solo behaviour. Other than that it works great.

Excellent video comparison. I’m two days in on my trial of Cubase 13 pro, the drum editor mode is a huge difference, also being able to enter piano roll notes without holding command I like seamlessly with out switching to a tool. I was feeling to lazy to learn another day after like 5, thought logic was my perfect daw but for $250 with there current promotion you might have sold me on it to invest in it and accept the learning curve lol
15:00 in Logic you can create a group, solo it, and deactivate it to solo just one horn. And with a CS you can use all the fingers to solo all together or un-solo it. You can so also mute the soloed tracks and keep just one, without using groups.
you cc an also bounce it, ,the shuck has no clue that Steinberg and Thomas at Emagic where friends, wrote the same codes, shared them and all, there is nothing Logic cant do that Cubase can BUT run on PC which is why he most likely made this video, nothing else and in fact there are a number of things Steinberg CANT do that Logic can, Cubase lacks better plugins, it sounds duller, it cant set up automation automatically for midi devices as fast as logic does graphically and mm most of all Logic was always the choice for pros working in the Major Label A&R offices....that says allot, its known that Nicky Kalliongis, Now with Republic Record only used logic on the 600 Plus plat records.

Thank you so much for this. Super useful. I am considering leaving Logic in search of the best DAW for composers. I still don't know a lot in Logic, but I was expecting the automation to be better. I would like to know if the faders on the tracks are post automation or not. I hate that in logic you cannot adjust overall volumes from the mixer, because they are post automation..is like - for those using logic - the read mode "trim" should be ON the faders.. not in the arrange window.
Other that I see Cubase has more juice probably. However, Logic DOES have that function that will draw an automation line from the parameters you would adjust ON the plugins "knobs". It definitively has it

GREAT VIDEO!!!! Thanks for your time. I was a Cubase user long long time ago (since my atari), but i switched to logic (7 years ago or maybe more!? :D). Logic crashes sometimes with some plugins or maybe its something else :). I like the midi editor in Cubase, and automation style, but miss the name of the instrument on the mixer. Ill try again. :) Really thanks for the video. The control room rocks.
Cheers! You can have the names of audio channels on the mixer in cubase. But if you mean virtual instruments showing up in the mixer like a plugin, no they don't. You can open them from the mixer channel though by alt clicking on the "e" button.

Thanks for the video.I'm thinking about switching to Cubase/Nuendo myself.for the reasons you mentioned and more . I've been a logic user since v6.but I've been learning cubase through online tutorials like these and now I'm tempted to just make the switch the production and mixing workflow seems familiar to me.almost like logic on steroids.
Yes I found Cubase really quick and easy to adjust to moving from Logic/Pro Tools. It felt completely fluent after a week and I never looked back.

@@nickbaptiste3047 I think I saw somewhere that someone did some tests and Pro Tools and Logic nulled perfectly if you just bounce out audio. 3rd party effects might vary from DAW to DAW a little even with the same plugin.
I dropped Pro Tools for Cubase in 2012 . . . In 2013, I added Samplitude Pro X for Editing Mixing and Mastering . . I now record all of my Acoustic projects in Samplitude, and I keep Cubase for Composing in Midi.
. . . Samplitude's Mixer has always been the Boss . . . Yet Cubase is definately catching up . . . The Double Solo feature in Cubase is a great new addition that all DAWs should adopt . . . I am very happy to see Cubase getting so much Love . . . ! . . . :-)

Another thing: LOADING VSTi is a BREEZE in Cubase/Nuendo
Select the “Media” tab in the Right Zone where CR, Meter, etc. exists and choose the icon “VST Instruments”
There will be default image placeholders with the name of the instrument below…just drag it into the section where you create Audio, MIDI, Folder, Group, VCA, etc. (Not in the actual waveforms/midi information lane section)
You will see a “green line” indicating that you can drop…(I.e. adding a track in between, above, or below an existing track)…and viola your instrument is loaded. **Be sure to click the camera icon** in the native Steinberg dialog box above the instrument to add the “image” of the instrument (as you will see) in place of the default placeholder. No other DAW performs the ability to load Instruments and Effects on a VISUAL level.
FYI: The “VSTi” tab in the Right Zone is where all the instruments in use or loaded exist. Steinberg's legacy method but better in the form of modules with mappable controls.
Selecting one draws focus to the instrument in the main window and mixer as a quick way of locating them in a large project.

You can create any colours you want it's in the Project menu.

Logic can name sends and outputs in the matrix and you can set auto region coloring in preferences.

Everybody's different but you can have the selected track(s) resized to a larger size and the rest much smaller if you wish. You can use the cycle markers and navigate/zoom fast as "#¤%"¤. Much better than the regular markers. No mention of the MIDI remote, the track configuration for hiding what you don't need, the integration between the score editor / key editor, expression maps, drum maps ... BUUUUT ... then it would be a three week long video that you wouldn't have uploaded until 2034 so I guess you know what you're doing haha! Thanks again! :D
Great overview. You definitely missed the virtual instrument features and views. Use the instrument rack. Logic you can only see the virtual in that one place. In Cubase you have an instrument track. A midi track. The virtual rack. You have the piano icon everywhere that opens that instrument..
The instrument rack is the best solution. Open the rack, choose an instrument, select Chanel type and routing, DONE. You can see every virtual you are using in one place. You can set quick controls for any virtual and see those in one place. You can add more tracks for the instrument that are available right in the rack. The track links to the instrument and rack so when you choose the Chanel, IE midi its selected in the rack. Great for when you have 30 of them going. You can have the rack floating or you can dock the rack in the edit window. When creating an instrument you can choose the type of track you want to use. I just create midi tracks because that is where the work is and access the VI rack or icon on the Chanel to open the VI. You can name every VI channel and have the names show up in the instruments routing section. There are to many features to list here really. Logic is beyond annoying when it comes to VI’s and midi.
When logic was run by Emagic its was so much better. Remember “environments” Apple stripped it for garage band. I’m a composer so I use midi and VI all the time. Your a mixer so you probably don’t go there a much. Makes sense.

I originally came from Studio One Professional to Logic. The one thing I fell in love with Studio One for was their advanced hand mastering processes. Since then, upgrading my VSTs, ozone has made that part of S1 moot which is what made me move to logic. But unfortunately now running up to 50-80 tracks at 44Khz I’m getting a ton of overload issues on a newer Mac. It’s cheaper for me to upgrade to Cubase (I have a 64gb ram and 13th gen intel laptop with a 3080TI) which having Cubase be cross compatible removes that roof when we hit that ceiling when we are tracking.
Just curious... Can you make Cubase so that you can start and stop playing by pressing the space bar? The one time I messed with Cubase (which did not do this), I found that particular feature of Logic was something I just couldn't live without.
Yes absolutely you can do that, that's I have it set up. All key commands are configurable.

@@newguy6935 What I've been really annoyed at with other daws is how customisable they are. for instance Ableton doesn't let you change key commans!! I mean COME ON! If I could use the same key commans for each daw then I'd be an ableton customer as well as cubase but alas.
but my point is that if you're used to doing something in one daw and want to work that way in cubase you can most always find away to do that.
hold command and press the edit channel settings button and it will bring up the virtual instrument. Yeah, you can't see it as an insert but you can open it quickly at least.

Thanks. It works in Cubase 11, I'm not on 12 yet. Its a key command. I'm not sure if it's mapped by default or if I mapped it myself. For me it's command [ and ]
I don't have Cubase open right now, but if you use CTRL, or ALT, or Shift (don't know which) when scrolling with the mouse wheel, the function changes.
This also makes scrolling and scaling in the project super comfortable. Just try it out.

I'm sure you know, on the mixer if you click and HOLD the e button down there next to the M S and L buttons, it will pop up your instrument for that channel.

This vertical line for visual alignment is something that i still miss since i switched from Cubase to Protools back in 2007 :)
Yes for music which is not on a grid (like jazz, classical and a lot of acoustic music) I find the vertical line essential for fast editing and automation.

Mark, thanks so much for such an in depth, informative video. I'm trying to setup my key commands / logical editor to auto colorize tracks similar to how you've done, but I can't figure out 1. How to have the key command execute a macro with many logical editor steps (and actually work), 2. How to have the colors recognize upper vs. lower case for audio vs group/aux/fx tracks. If you'd like to explain here for everyone that would work, otherwise I could send you an email with some screenshots?

I've seen the Greg Ondo video and I can create a command to color some tracks based on name, but haven't figured out how to create a hotkey that will execute many project logical editor commands at once. Also haven't figured out how to make it differentiate based on all caps. But I'll check out that website it looks like a great resource thanks!

For the video author/others: Is the VST-crashing problem fixed in newer versions of Logic? There has been at least one major update if memory serves right.
You can synchronise project and mix view, you just have to activate sync view button

After seeing your video 2 years ago I made the final switch to Logic. Now it seems Cubase is next. I had dismissed it as some PC-only old-timer DAW. A lot of these differences are exactly what I've been missing in Logic.
Yes I only looked into Cubase because Logic had become so unstable. I knew Cubase was often the film composer's DAW of choice but I didn't realise just how great it was for mixing music.

Hoping it works for tracking too. In Logic I love being able to switch between track alternatives and take folders, and low latency monitoring if need be. Lots of great features in Logic, but a lot of frustrating issues too.

IMHO, version 13 discourages desire using Cubase. The “Channel” innovation brings even more confusion (It’s like a separate channel from MixConsole, the same thing is with MediaBay), since the Inspector expand section exclusively (now it's optionally) and there is also a Channel Settings window... And in the “new” Channel I did not find the opportunity to make a channel strip as a pre-insert, you can only move it around. And also in the Channel Strip I did not see two new compressors: VoxComp (apparently an alternative to RVox from Waves) and BlackValve. In general, Cubase suffers from duplication of windows. Studio One, in my opinion, will be better.
I really like have the automation set to regions in Logic not tracks , can you do this in Cubase ?

Have you tried Cubase with a control surface, like the SSL UF8 or Presonus FaderPort? One concern I have with Cubase is 3rd party hardware integration. I always see support for Ableton and Logic due to their popularity, but once into Cubase, Reaper, BitWig and StudioOne support is hit or miss.
With Cubase 12 new midi remote system there's no need for a controller "to be integrated with Cubase", that's a revolution. I use every piece of hardware that sends midi CC as controller, for example all my synthesizers like Andromeda, Virus, OB12 and so on
PS. it was possible also on the old midi remote system, just a bit more tedious to organise
I have one of the old faderports single fader version and it works great with cubase 11. But as The Monk Beats says, with Cubase 12 anything that sends midi cc can be linked to anything you like. The only restriction with Cubase (which I find frustrating) is that as far as I can tell (I might be wrong), you can't have one controller CC controlling parameters on more than one channel at a time. That's a huge restriction if you are used to using things like MainStage or Ableton for live work (and some modern mixing techniques) where you can control as many parameters on as many channels as you want simultaneously with one CC. Really not sure why they stopped short of doing this with Cubase 12 (maybe there's some low level code that prevents it).
I do use SSL uf8 with Cubase and also I have UC1 and Softube console 1, all of them work really good, a bit different from protools but you can’t anyway expect like 100% compatibility with all DAW’s
I am still using protools but seems like a cubase is very interesting to move on
the double solo function is easily done in Logic by creating Groups and then just soloing the instrument you want within that. it doesn't take more time and can be done literally in seconds.
That method is not working here if I understand what you're saying correctly (which I might not be). With group solo on all channels in the group are soloed when you solo any one of them. What's great in cubase is that you can solo a set of channels or an AUX (like a drum bus) and then solo individual tracks within that (double solo) without loosing your previous solo selection when you remove the double solo. I've not found a way to do that in Logic, but if there is one I'd love to know it! 😀

CUBASE IS WITHIN A SECOND
the auto fade-in fade-out can also be done in Logic - in the left pane under the respective headings. It then applies to all regions in the track.
Yes but you need to do it on a track by track basis and you need to select all regions on a track and if you have already set some of the fades by hand (which is often the case) it destroys those fades. All pretty fiddly and time consuming. Both Cubase and Pro Tools allow a global auto fade setting for all edits, which you can then edit of course.
I’ve been struggling with the stability of Logic myself. I’ve been messing with Bitwig which has some awesome devices and modulation options, but the midi writing is terrible compared to Logic. I wish Logic would do what Bitwig has done with plug-ins loading in containers so just the plug-in crashes and not the whole project.
It's a real problem for a lot of people. There was a time when Logic almost never crashed, I remember going for months without a crash. Those were the good old days. 🙂
I was also a Logic user until my iMac started crashing. I couldn't tell whether it was my mac or logic that was the problem. Now I see it's a common problem among logic users. Anyway I switched to Windows and tried Cubase. I have never looked back since then. Cubase is awesome in every way. At first I used to fear that I wouldn't get the same quality I used to get in Logic but I was wrong. Cubase sounds are all the way quality in that some of my projects are sounding better in terms of quality than those I did in Logic. Midi and especially Audio features are also amazingly awesome. For instance their Sampler Track is outstandingly awesome. Audio Quantizing is razor sharp accurate. And the Software is very Stable. I don't think I will ever look for mac or logic again. Cubase for life🔥

one cons about cubase is that after every upgrade (not update), some say it costs almost the same price as buying a new cubase. Is it true? Pls correct me if Im wrong. Im in a big dilemma on which daw to start my work between logic & cubase..?

Just bought Cubase. But have you tried Studio One. Many are using that for Mixing.
I haven't tried it. I have heard that people are using it for mixing. I'm not sure what it has to offer that Cubas or Logic don't have.
The Arranger Track. Reaper has similar workflow aide but its not nearly as beautifully laid out.
I went the opposite way. Heavy Cubase user since 6. I own 12 now and I feel like even though I’m comfortable in it, there’s still so much more I can do. I bought logic more for writing a quick demo for the band and getting it done fast. When I write in cubase I inevitably get too caught up with the mix which isn’t as important when just trying to share a quick song idea. It’s also refreshing to just use something else once in a while, to be completely honest.

It's funny but I see it exactly the same way you do. Logic songwriting, recording. Cubase (or other more complex daws) mixing etc. (doing technical work). Maybe it has something to do with the fact that apple makes products that are fun to use. Maybe's that's what leads us to do the fun stuff in logic :)
Heron, thankyouuu. Logic is now system overloading just by playing a few audios with no plugs. Terrible. I've been ok since 2014 but now, I'm on Mixbus. I'm very sad about that I'm it in Logic until I get my M1 iMac

I use about 30-60 Stems in logic, 44Khz, and yet it says system overload.
Then every-time i save and come back to record something the latency delays so much i have to manually move the track to the right bpm :/
Watching this a year later after I haphazardly updated to Sonoma 17.4 and all my Ilok plugins like UA and Soundtoys cause errors in Logic Pro and won’t open on my newish 2023 M2 Pro Mac mini. There’s a workaround through Rosetta but unacceptable. I switched back to my Studio one Professional which continues to work flawlessly during this time
What a nightmare! Its a real shame with all their vast resources that Apple have decided not to care about backwards compatibility. Its not fair on the users or the developers.

Hi .in logic when i record external synth or bounce midi to audio it doesn't sit on the grid & each time i need to move it manually . I tried all .i wonder if cubase doesn't have this problem .tjanks
The problem isn't Logic, its you.
Login is a good option for Mac users, because of the price. Oh wow..... Unstable?
Cubase Pro is a more fully flushed out DAW. It's awesome especially, if you're into midi editing and composition. Great built in audio tools too. Melodyn or still more advanced for pitch and timing, but for stock DAW tools..... Wow.
The stability of Logic is the worst out of all the major DAW’s I own.
Finally the truth! Logic was good for many years but in past couple years it has been totally unstable. Looking at Reaper and Cubase.
Summing stacks is a much more organised way to route multiple tracks to a bus than its possible in cubase. Or do I miss a thing here?
As far as I can tell routing a Group in Cubase has all the functionality as a summing stack plus more. Having said that, you can use AUX channels in Logic to get the exact same functionality as Cubase's Group channels.

@@conrow1157 Yes that's a good point, Cubase could make it easier to sync folders between project window and mixer. I also don't like the fact that you can't see VI's in the mixer in Cubase like you can in Logic.

I used Protools for years, it’s slow and buggy. Moved to logic, even more buggy. Hopefully Cubase is the one. There’s a recent video, the guy tests all the new m chip macs on various daws. Only Cubase and Reaper used all cores which allowed for a much higher track count. That’s my main reason for switching. That and less bugs, hopefully 🤞
I am og Cubase user from 1996, and I cna be biased, but really, can't compare the two in terms of features, especially MIDI and mixing.
..its so strange, cos' i had quite opposite experience..having so many crashes with cubase 12 so i went back to logic, logic crashes to me once in a month maybe twice...cubase crashes 5 times a week....im on big sur....regards
Glad Logic is working for you. I had no complaint about Logic except for the crashes. I literally had no choice but to change DAWs. Pro Tools is too slow for me to mix in because of it's lack of plugin management and visual alignment tool. Cubase has everything I need and so far it's very stable (I'm on cubase 11).

I love Cubase. I tried Logic for a while and wanted to stay there but it really wasn’t as good. It was intuitive and pretty easy to learn but Cubase is so solid and comprehensive. I thought about PTools but man that crashes so much…what the hey is that all about? With some work PTools could be as good as Cubase. It’s not terrible except for the crashing.
The automation read latency in Logic. That issue alone is enough to completely dismiss the software.
I agree it is a major issue. I haven't checked wether it's fixed in the most recent update, but it's a problem apple have left unattended for a long time. It's so nice to have sample accurate automation in Cubase.
the feature that most impressed me is the wave form size in the automation. However i don´t know if it is good to change the size all the time. Anyway Logic lost this one, one could have the option to activate or deactivate this.
The colored automation is for me a reason to stay in Logic. Sometimes I automate 8 parameters; even though I lose control of them. I also did never imagine that Pro Tools is so behind in some things you mentioned, where Cubase and Logic are better. So Pro Tools is not the "Sauron" as CHristian HEnson says...
I think Pro Tools is "Sauron" because it is a great for recording lots of instruments at the same time. For that I think it's the easiest solution. But for mixing, for me, it's way behind Cubase and Logic. As you know Christian uses Logic by choice even though he has to move everything Pro Tools for delivery, it's clearly worth it to him to do that.
