- If Snape hadn’t loved Lily, then it is hard to see where his motivation to do good would have come from. Without it we wonder how things might have changed. Would Snape and Lily still have been friends? Would he have been a Death Eater? Would Voldemort’s Horcruxes have been destroyed? And possibly the most important question, would Harry have survived as a child and would there ever have been The Boy Who Lived ?

the real question should be: what would've happened if snape wasn't bullied; because his entire story is about child abuse and bullying, it made snape choose a dark path that he would have never chosen if he had a healthy school life,
he was following boys around school no one would a paid him any attention if he acted normal
Just the way that Professor Snape grabbed Harry Ron and Hermione and pushed them behind him just goes to show how he feels about protecting the students. He was going to self-sacrifice to protect all three. Even though it would have been a useless gesture.
I agree! This is one of the things the movies did better than the books. He didn’t do this in the book, only in the movie unfortunately.
That's not in the books. That's just the filmmakers sympathising with the character because of Alan Rickman's performance

If Snape did not love Lily, then Harry would not have been born. The entire triangle of Snape, Lily, and James would have never have happened and if James did end up with Lily, they would have had a different baby as there is zero chance that Harry would have been conceived. Thoughts?
I really don't see it... if Snape wasn't in love with Lily they still would've been friends and he would still call her Mudblood, James and her would still end up being together and Harry would've been born.
