Optiplex with a Ryzen Chip - Any Good?

In this video I take a look at the Optiplex 5055 SFF PC. I got this on ebay for $95. It came with a Ryzen chip, an SSD, 16GB RAM, AND an RX 550 Low Profile GPU.

I think it’d be cool for you to check out the single slot low profile Arc A310 from Sparkle. Only thing is it requires resizable bar so not for an older optiplex but maybe a newer (ish) one.

Neat!! One of these days I'm going to get one of those and try a CPU upgrade. Got to wonder if the am4 dynasty extends to proprietary motherboards like those. Also makes you wonder what an A380 would do in there. Of course you'd have to swap out an a310 cooler
It will work with 1st gen Ryzen PRO.. It can support a Ryzen 1700 PRO, while still being slower than an I5 8500

GPU temp is very hight i think / around 85C/. Can you change the thermal paste please and clean the fans?
These are stuck with Ryzen 1000 series CPUs and Ryzen 2200g/2400g.
This is quite similar to the current PC I have, except for it being a Ryzen 1600AF, half the RAM and a 1TB NVME.

amazing deal - i checked the PCIe configuration
both slots are Gen3:
x4 is wired as x4
x16 is wired as x8
no true x16 connection
so... you actually could get an GTX 1650 onto the x4 slot and have really great small pc for gaming.
RX 6400 is to be skipped duo Gen4 x4 so here you will lose performance
A380 could be used ONLY if you get one with single slot configuration (because it is Gen4 x8 and not x4 so on Gen3 x8 you are not loosing any performance)
When ever I look for the GTX 1650 low profile it's overpriced. Lowest price I've seen is $180. Might as well get the RTX 3050 low profile at that point. If the 1650 as $100 I'd pick it up.

That was a good deal for you it looks like I put together a very similar system but the parts were a lot more expensive and I had to buy the video card up at micro center for a low profile case they sold me a low profile card I said specifically had to be a special form factor within 58 mm they verified and well then I got stuck with a $220 card paying for it being able to fit my case when the card was only $70 card for the regular one looks like whatever action you got that at is the one where we should all be shopping at😊
this can perform really well as an emulation PC
how did you boot os into it those usually come with no OS

The problem with those is the 1st gen Ryzens are a bit slower than Intel of their time. An I3 8300 in a 3060 would be faster and more upgradable. The RX 550 isn’t that great. I have a Dell one. I found success with bios modding it. You can get some better performance.The real gems are the WX 4100 which is equal to a RX560 for not a lot more money.
The WX4100 looses a little due to being a pro card but it’s technically an RX460 1024SP or more commonly a 560. I would agree that a real 560 is faster but we’re talking low profile single slot machines and that changes the playing field
$95 for the pc that comes with the powerful ryzen 7 1700, rx 550, 16gb ram and 500gb Nvme ssd, and there's the pcie (although x4) slot that let you fits rtx 3050 6gb and even RTX a2000, it sounds too good to be true
I got lucky. I think most people aren't looking for Optiplex's with Ryzen chips.
I wonder what's the highest CPU it would support on swap and if it would be possible to mount some 3rd party coolers. Even with 3600X that would be miles ahead of that 1600 and they go for around 60...
