Playing through Hollow Bastion the first time was such a frightening experience. Starting off with the Wooden Sword as your only weapon, losing the friends who fought alongside you and protected you for so long, and every dark corner holding some new and terrible monster to bite, tear, or blast you to shreds... It was kinda overwhelming.
Then you realize Beast hits like a freight train, is gung-ho for combat like Tarzan, can take punishment even better than he can give it, and you still have your spells for doing damage from afar or even cheesing with summons. Blizzara is quite effective, as is Tinker Bell.
Okay I got so emotional seeing Hollow Bastion as the stage and theme, I know there’s only 9 tracks and so many more songs could have gotten in, but out of all the Kingdom Hearts music that exists, THIS IS THE ONLY SONG I WANTED…
Seeing all the platforms in the background did really give me an intense blast to the past that i just instantly started kh1 again lol. While the battle system is way more basic compared to kh2, DDD and kh3, i honestly really like how because of this, the fights in KH1 are just more challenging and harder to overcome. Really like KH1 a lot (eventhough it hasn't aged that well, but it can't be helped), specially the Hollow Bastion theme. Really glad he made it to Smash, and be the one to seal the deal with Smash Ultimate.

Bro I felt so betrayed by Goof and Donald and when Riku threw me the sword I actually felt kinda mad since he was supposed to be the actual Keyblade wielder but he just fell to darkness and so we had to pick up for him. It honestly felt like our journey truly was over and hopeless at that point. Probably why it’s my favorite world lol

I remember playing the game up to this point and being surprised at how enjoyable it was. I honestly hadn't been expecting much; I bought it for the sole reason of the Final Fantasy connection. However, when this world and this music hit...I remembering thinking to myself, "Have I just stumbled into an epic story?" This was the moment when I became a Kingdom Hearts fan.
At that point in my life my only experience being fully immersed in a game was Zelda ocarina of time and majoras mask. When I got to hollow bastion I was like wow this is surprisingly on that level.
Hollow bastion isn't a world, but a test. A test to see how you do without relying on your only tool to stop the darkness. A test on your knowledge on how to overcome obstacles. A test of patience after falling over and over and over and over and over and over *and fucking over*

Yknow I personally think this is the best iteration of the Hollow Bastion theme. I feel like it somewhat loses its charm with its successors' extension and slower tempo. This theme truly brings that intensity and I rly wish they kept it.
So this is something u have to remember, Hollow Bastion at this point is as the name says, hollow. It's barren and a former shadow of what it once was before being corrupted by darkness. The music reflects this by being very ominous and desolate. So when we get to KH2, it still has the same damaged feeling but with a little more hopeful melody put into it as the FF cast are working on rebuilding it back to its former glory, which ofc is Radiant Garden. BBS is obviously the starting point so it's the most bombastic seeing how this is when Ansem the Wise was ruling over it and the city was at its prime. This is just how I see it. The charm is still there as the song keeps transforming from a dead and barren but dangerous place filled to the brim with darkness to how it once was a magnificent garden filled with light

My first run, I was already very much a mage-type so this wasn't as daunting for me as it was for others, not physically, but emotionally it was still one of the best moments in the game.
Hollow bastion was like the climax of the game. That whole first visit was an uphill battle from the start. Sora was basically an underdog the whole way through. Lost the key blade and his friends, defeated a powered up maleficent, then had to slug it out with dark Riku all while deep in enemy territory when the most powerful enemies in the game had a very strong home field advantage. It felt like you were running on fumes and winning the whole time. After the first hollow bastion visit things were kinda back in Sora's favor. The rest of the game just sorta felt like tying up loose ends.

Always been my favorite world, this track and the battle one gives me goosebumps still. I spent so many hours as a kid leveling up there. Good ole PS2 days...
After so many years I never moved over than Tarzan world, my 2004 brother finally does it and I discovered the rest of the game saga till the third. And this world is one of the most amazing I’ve ever seen in the game
I swear of god, they need to make a soundtrack collection called “The Yoko Shimomura masterpiece collection” and this track could be one of them and it’s also tracks that she composed from other games too like the Mario and Luigi Series as well

Hollow Bastion is most beautiful world in KH because the sky looks like a sunrise, we have the rising falls, a huge castle that has a lot of rooms, giant metal pipings outside of the castle and a giant cogwheel exposed next to a heartless symbol also I’m glad that they made Hollow bastion in smash ultimate, the stage can fly around the castle and if stage hazards are on we can go to the Dive to the heart, but sadly there’s no option to go inside of Hollow bastion
When I was 6 and played the game for the first time hollow bastion creeped me out and I hated the world. Thought the lifts stop was super confusing. Now after my umpteen millionth play through this world is my absolute favorite of any world in the series.

Playing this game for the first time, this level hits hard! Between losing the Keyblade (along with Goofy and Donald); the new Heartless, the beast that was well… the Beast, Sora being a Heartless, and of course the boss fights. But the biggest effect this level has was this theme!! Man this is a beautiful theme! Hell it reminded me of a computer game I used to play in the 90s called “Goosebumps: Attack of the Mutant”. This is a song that I remember as I had to keep going through this world killing every single Heartless enemy OVER and OVER again until I reached Level 69! For one main reason. ANSEM-RIKU!!!
Can I just point out how terrifying it was not only to lose the keyblade and downgrading to the wooden sword, but the fact that my first playthrough was on proud mode? Had these new big enemies chasing me and I had to dodge them all because I had little MP to play with.
This song is pretty dope, and i never played kh1 so i didnt know about it until smash. They had so many great tracks to pick from kh2 and kh3, wasted potential.
What's strange is that unlike KH2, KH3's OST was officially released Yet none of the tracks from KH3 are used, despite KH3 tracks being rearrangements of KH2's tracks so you get the best of both worlds. I'm also disappointed
You know smash isn't just about the characters...its also the stages and songs And while.the dojo was incredible with kick ass tekken music and Ff7 got a few more tracks..... hollow bastion is an incredible place with breathtaking music...even if it's just KH1 ...and of course....the square eqnix levels are created to be good "legal 1v1 levels"
Yeah, this track is definitely my favorite of KH1...but dear god I HATE that world. I had to basically let Beast fight the heartless and skim around the ones he couldn't. Bear in mind that my first ever playthrough of this game was a few months ago...on final mix. Yeah, that's right. So let me just say this: SCREW the Riku/Ansem fight. I HATED him so goddamn much. I actually had to farm the coliseum and come back to fight his ass, and still couldn't beat him right away. That aside, in terms of video game worlds, Hollow Bastion is just mesmerizing in that physics no longer apply there. You can walk on water, use bubbles to travel underwater and a myriad of other stuff. It's an unforgettable experience....but god it was hell for me.
Some themes i would have liked to see in smash would have been Reviving Hollow Bastion,13th Struggle,Rage Awakened,Scherzo Di Notte(2.5) and The Other Promise but oh well...

I am coming back to this AWESOME song, because of my boy Sora is NOW in Smash!!! Hollow Bastion is also going to be a song in Smash also. I fell in love with KH way back in 2002, and it is very dear to my heart. The reveal that Sora was going to be in Smash made me very emotional.

Well boys we did it. Sora is now finally in Smash.
When I was 6 and played the game for the first time hollow bastion creeped me out and I hated the world. Thought the lifts stop was super confusing. Now after my umpteen millionth play through this world is my absolute favorite of any world in the series.
You got to Hollow Bastion when you were 6? Goddamn, I never made it past Deep Jungle at age 8 or 9.

I got up to the final Ansem fight when I was 8 or 9. I didn't understand RPG mechanics back then so I just gave up.

Playing this game for the first time, this level hits hard! Between losing the Keyblade (along with Goofy and Donald); the new Heartless, the beast that was well… the Beast, Sora being a Heartless, and of course the boss fights. But the biggest effect this level has was this theme!! Man this is a beautiful theme! Hell it reminded me of a computer game I used to play in the 90s called “Goosebumps: Attack of the Mutant”. Floor/Level 7 (as well as the “ice realm”) theme is the closest music to Hollow Bastion before well Hollow Bastion.

This is such a Beautiful Track but Riku taking the Keyblade from Sora and Loosing Donald and Goofy was honestly one of the most saddest moments in Kingdom Hearts.
At least the Beast was there for Sora

Thank god most enemies are skipable in the wooden sword section cause at level 1 Beast takes ages to kill any enemy.
This is a song that I remember as I had to keep going through this world killing every single Heartless enemy OVER and OVER again until I reached Level 69!

Can I just point out how terrifying it was not only to lose the keyblade and downgrading to the wooden sword, but the fact that my first playthrough was on proud mode? Had these new big enemies chasing me and I had to dodge them all because I had little MP to play with.

This song is pretty dope, and i never played kh1 so i didnt know about it until smash.
They had so many great tracks to pick from kh2 and kh3, wasted potential.
What's strange is that unlike KH2, KH3's OST was
officially released
Yet none of the tracks from KH3 are used, despite KH3 tracks being rearrangements of KH2's tracks so you get the best of both worlds. I'm also disappointed
They wanted to be faithful of the original version.

You know smash isn't just about the characters...its also the stages and songs
And while.the dojo was incredible with kick ass tekken music and Ff7 got a few more tracks..... hollow bastion is an incredible place with breathtaking music...even if it's just KH1
...and of course....the square eqnix levels are created to be good "legal 1v1 levels"
Yeah, this track is definitely my favorite of KH1...but dear god I HATE that world. I had to basically let Beast fight the heartless and skim around the ones he couldn't. Bear in mind that my first ever playthrough of this game was a few months ago...on final mix. Yeah, that's right. So let me just say this: SCREW the Riku/Ansem fight. I HATED him so goddamn much. I actually had to farm the coliseum and come back to fight his ass, and still couldn't beat him right away.
That aside, in terms of video game worlds, Hollow Bastion is just mesmerizing in that physics no longer apply there. You can walk on water, use bubbles to travel underwater and a myriad of other stuff. It's an unforgettable experience....but god it was hell for me.
This makes me want to run in a castle and save a princess

It's funny because in French the name of this place is not at all the same as in English.
In English: "Hollow Bastion"
and in French: "Forteresse oubliée" (literally translated it is "Forgotten fortress")
now that i know hollow bastion used to be radiant garden from playing kingdom hearts 2 final mix, that revelation clears up the questions in my head about where that place is
for those of you who don't know what im talking about, around the part of the game after you defeat the corrupt program in space paranoids, tron becomes the new voice for hollow bastion's computer and as a reward for stopping the flow of the heartless into the world and returning the defense system to normal (before the program was defeated, it tried to target you instead of the heartless), he shows you footage of hollow bastion's early days. aerith then tells you the former name of the world

I am coming back to this AWESOME song, because of my boy Sora is NOW in Smash!!! Hollow Bastion is also going to be a song in Smash also. I fell in love with KH way back in 2002, and it is very dear to my heart. The reveal that Sora was going to be in Smash made me very emotional.
