12" is perfect for the 6 way, mine seems to favor the larger pieces towards the back just like yours. The wedge pocket seems to have a lot of slop in it for my taste, It'd be nice to tighten that up some day in a future welding project. When you get everything right you can bust up some wood fast on this rig.
Oh yeah everything has some slop that might just be what is happening but I have seen ppl weld plates to the back to stiffen it up but wonder if it’s left loose so you can move it freely by hand
I've had some 15 and larger stuff on mine, not my favorite sessions for sure. Splits come out big and you burn up some time resplitting, it does make some good wood fast though and it sure beats the hell out of standard splitters all day long.
@@Tonnsfabrication I’m in New England so I get a lot of that decent sized oak I guess I could just save those for my furnace I like a mix of bigger and smaller logs
@@RSDOutdoors I live in the heart of Ohio's logging country, couple of my buddies still cut. In the last two years I've watched a new log yard spring up down the road from me and all they do is pack veneers into shipping containers bound for Asian markets. Take into account the craze for staves that eat up all the white oak and the oaks can get hard to get a hold of. Definitely not like it used to be back in the day. Still plenty of good firewood like beech hickory and maple which are some of my favorites.
@@Tonnsfabrication yeah sad to see it go overseas but loggers need to eat and unfortunately most our mills around here are being bought my china but hopefully our eyes will open to what is happening soon or well its over ill do what I can locally but were are in the crosshairs
RSD, it appears as though that you’ve pretty much got it going on fairly well. I’d still like to see how well that thing performs with just cut and VERY green Sweetgum. That stuff is next to impossible for a “man” to split, even by someone that actually knows how to swing an axe/maul (that is NOT me). I sure can’t do it, at least not until it’s seasoned well, even then it “can” be tricky!
True but don’t be telling everyone one about tomorrow’s video lol yeah the processor was not planned yet but I am making it work with what I have the plan was to just log this piece and we’ll your seeing what happened next lol no script here

Not too common around here. a lot of our oaks are gone, but when given the chance, be happy to try some.

Hardest wood we have here is elm it’s nothing but fiber
The 2 tree you have on side of driveway where your bringing logs through I would remove one or both of them to make it easier on yourself
