As long as I see Hold me Closer in among the greatest, no bias at all haha.
Placements aside, Sweden is the most consistent country in ESC and that should have been considered as a fact by now. I'm not really fond of their '00s catalogue (2000, 2005, 2007 my exceptions), but since 2011 and especially 2012, the hype is real, the quality almost never leaves the room. I get that some placements were a bit ''generous'' (as in 2016, 2017, 2018 and for me, 2019 too), but i guess that's the effect of evermore producing solid entries as a ''package''. Sometimes the song maybe the standout, some others the performance, and some others, as with Euphoria and Hold me Closer, everything is exceptional.
My among the greatest ones, in specific order: 1) Hold me Closer (my new 21st century favorite) 2) Euphoria 3) Undo 4) When Spirits are calling my name 5) Eloise 6) Popular
Can't wait for 2023 Mello, hope Cornelia's journey inspires more artists to explore their artistic and personal ground and bring songs as authentic and pure as Hold me Closer. And hopefully one of those gets to go in Liverpool as well

Laureen with „Euphoria“ definitely belongs to „among the greatest“ and Måns’ showed in 2015 with his charming performance, how not to become a victim of special effects like Sergey Lazarev one year later. So I agree, that he deserves a „fantastic“. The songs that Sweden sent in the years before and after however, were mostly too mainstream and too commercial oriented for me, to grab my attention.

Sweden, Sweden, Sweden... a lovely country on ESC! You just take the contest seriously and I love you for that, even if I think that Melodifestivalen is a little overrated for my taste. I have a lot of favorites of this country. My favorites are: 1993, 1995, 1996, 1998. These four are among the greatest for me! Thank you, min kära!

I never understood why "If I were sorry" is this unpopular.
It's a song you can play non stop with its chill calm mood. Similar to Kedvesem (I love both so much). Or City Lights. Amazing as well. Some songs doesn't need fireworks.
It was very fresh back then and wasn't calculated.
    Glad locals enjoyed at least.

People have different tastes, and me in particular, I agree with everything he said, and I'll even add that Frans' stage presence was a bit off putting and his vocals were unreasonably weak considering how easy it is to sing that song. Definitely did not deserve 5th place, and it's not that it needed fireworks, it's simply just not that good.

As you said diferent tastes indeed. I don't agree his stage presence was offputing at all. He had the right attitude and presence for this song and its vibe. He performed well. And that's why many locals liked him and related. Everything felt fresh.
      And he was only 17.
(same case with Blanche one year later)
And the song was the biggest Hit from that edition in 2016 as well. People really liked it outside of the fandom bubble and internet. 5th place was deserved regardless. And never easy as a host.

"How biased do you think I am?"
Very biased, but that's okay lol. I think I'm a little biased AGAINST Sweden because I hate how they never seem to take risks. They've played it very safe after The Ark and send well composed, well produced, inoffensive and radio friendly jury baits. Which is fine and has worked out great for them but I love the side of Eurovision that's out there, chaotic, quirky, out of the ordinary, so hearing songs I'd hear in a H&M fitting room doesn't really do anything for me. Hold Me Closer was a great one though, Euphoria too

Much like you, I’m also a Swedish guy born in the 90’s. So, while we of course have different opinions on the music, I’m guessing we share the same kind of nostalgic bond to a lot of them.
I don’t know if it’s the case in all countries, it very well might be, but the thing is: almost all of these songs (especially in like… 2009 and before) were such big hits, that they were pretty much inescapable. So, there’s a lot of childhood anthems in this video.
I’m with you regarding 1993. A timeless classic, and it’s still played when going out sometimes because EVERYONE can sing along to it. That chorus is just amazing.
1994 is not a bad song, just a tad forgettable. The melody is fine and the vocalists even more than so, but as a package… it’s a shrug.
1996 is in my top 5 Swedish songs from the contest. The piano melody, the mystical mood in the verses and the building in the chorus. And it just grows throughout - Love it to bits. And I love Nanne, that helps.
1997 - copy paste what you said.
1999 - Another classic (at least the swedish version). I heard it at a party this recent weekend. Because, much like ”Eloise”, everyone can sing along. I’m very biased I know. I like it a lot. Very christmassy. Solid vocals too, if not more. I’m not sure it’s my winner, but I do prefer it over Iceland at least.
2000 - Eeek. This is a difficult one. Because this is a case where language makes the difference. In Swedish, I can hype it as much as I have done 1993 or 1999. But in English, I just don’t care. So in Melodifestivalen - LOVE IT. In Eurovision - meh.
2001 - Nostalgia strikes again. Another one that can be played at certain kinds of parties (but also then: in Swedish). It’s a hook that you can’t underrate. It just sticks with you.
2002 - Opposite here. I like the song, but they were so annoyingly overhyped while singing this. A loud mess. Too bad.
2003 - My first contest. And to be honest, kinda bored with the Swedish entry. For some reason, no nostalgic bond to this. Maybe cause I didn’t even like it as a kid.
2004 - Another one I love - IN SWEDISH!!! But it must be said: Lena is so much better than the song. The thing is that it’s not a serious song. It’s dripping with word play and cynicism. But that gets lost in the English translation, so I’ve seen a lot of international viewers questioning why the lyrics are so sad, but the performance so… filled with sexual implications.
2005 - Shouldn’t have come close to win. Professional but forgettable.
2006 - Not too fond of Carola tbh. She’s ok and the song is too.
2007 - I like The Ark, but this song is nothing.
2008 - While I’m getting why it didn’t win again, I don’t get the too low result. I live the contrasts from the dramatic verses to the powerful pop choruses. It should’ve come around 10th, I think.
2009 - Liked it back then. Now I’m not too sure. I don’t think I like it very mych tbh. It’s gotten annoying.
2010 - I agree with everything you said. We should’ve sent ”Kom”.
    2011 - God I can’t stand this.
2012 - This, however… I can stand. 10 years on - this is just compeletely amazing. Her vocals are just delicious, the verses are intriguing and the chorus is just so damn powerful. And the performance is just perfect! Like, this is one of - if not the - my proudest moments as a swedish Eurovision-fan.
2013 - This is not. I don’t like this one bit. It’s so freaking annoying.
2014 - I was so mad with this, when it won. Not because I dislike it. I don’t. I really really like it. But I prefered ”Busy doin nothing” who lost with 2 damn points. But time does it thing, and now I think it’s pretty damn fantastic.
2015 - This is great. But also, kind of uninteresting. Like I wanted it to finish high, but even as a swede, I found the victory to be quite undeserved. Something like 7th would be more fitting.
2016 - Totally forgot about this one. It’s very relaxing. It’s not a bad song, just not a song for Eurovision.
2017 - Sweden got hooked on pop guys and this is probably the weakest of the bunch. Robin is a fine singer, but such a boring stage persona. The treadmills are just there to ”hide” the fact that he can’t move naturally. The song has a nice production, but it’s just… a bit meh.
2018 - I like Benjamin. He is one of the biggest in Sweden as of now. He deserves it. And I like that his career boom has made ”Dance you off” just a parenthesis in his career. And that’s all it deserves to be. It’s not a very good song. So I like it that Benjamin isn’t especially related to the song today.
2019 - Love the 90’s vibe, and he is a nice singer. I think he just is kinda boring, much like Robin Bengtsson.
2020 - Wow. If I were mad when Ace Wilder lost out to Sanna Nielsen with 2 points. It’s nothing against when Dotter lost to The Mamas with 1 point. I didn’t even like ”Move” that much, while ”Bulletproof” is one of Melodifestivalen’s finest ever. Man, I was pissed. But ok, looking objectively… the women spread such joy. I love seeing them on stage. And they’re fantastic vocalists. The song is just not as fun as they think it is - and why is such a happy song colored in all black? If I were to have sound off, I wouldn’t have understood that it was such an upbeat tune.
2021 - In Sweden, people like Tusse. Tusse is an amazing personality, and he has a life story that touches people. I’m not usually a sore loser, but it’s clear that this won because Tusse is so beloved here. It became evident in Eurovision when no one knew who he was so they just heard an ok tune sung by a fine singer. Not much more. This song is already forgotten by a lot of people. Almost me aswell.
2022 - And we end with the highest of notes. Holy crap I just live this. So much. It’s amazing in every aspect, and every molecule. Her raspy vocals, that gets more and more desperate throughout the song. The building, it starts like a Lana Del Rey song and ends up almost as a Robyn song, and the journey feels so natural. This is a perfect song even out of Eurovision-context. This is like top 5 ”Heartbreak Anthem” ever for me. It’s a song that can make you cry and almost dance at the same time! I’m guessing this will remain my Swedish favorite for a long time. But time will tell, I’m open for everything.

It's not my favourite country but I am 💯 there for Eloise being Among the Greatest - adore that song. Den Vilda is fantastic too wouldn't have quarreled with that being Among the Greatest either. For me Take To Your Heaven is the worst ESC winner ever! Which is I know isn't a popular opinion but it's mine - Germany, Iceland or Croatia should have won that year. I'd have it Not For Me or maybe solid - I think it's as cliched AF. Love Spirits Are Calling My Name though. Dislike Sweden's 00s Schlarger fest except for Invincible which I love because of Carola. I don't like Hero. Sweden is a very polarising country for me they have songs I hate that everyone else seems to love like Popular and Undo and songs I absolutely love that people are more divided about like Heroes that one joker said there were twenty 'infinitely better' songs in that year - I mean it was strong year but he listed the very forgetable Greek song and the quite clichéd German song as well as the hypocritical pablem of Russia as example so my gut reaction to that opinion isn't really typeable (unsurprisingly it's two words with the second word being off) although I do have an entire Livejournal post on why I think that one weighs less than sunshine. Another YT commentator doesn't like Swedish songs but the fact he was rooting for Spirit of the Night to qualify in 2017 I see as an indicator he takes underdog stannage and 'not like other pundits' too far on occasion. I think you're pretty fair. Sweden are the popular kid of Eurovision and opinions are strong about them always sometimes ludriciously so and I don't exclude myself in that - they are very good at popular styles (some of which I profoundly dislike) and slick production which if you don't like the type of music (or singing Undo has a type of singing that I've never liked although I can't deny that Sanna is a highly skilled vocalist) or hate the lyrics can lead to an opinion of style over substance. Sweden hate is a thing and I get it but sometimes I love what they do (Heroes) and sometimes I don't (If I Were Sorry, Dance You Off). I do think with Hold Me Closer Sweden is moving in the right direction - like most successful entities they adapt well to changing environments - Cornelia seems like such a cool person and her being slightly drunk and throwing her wine around during the results in Turin is a meme. Hold Me Closer was my niece's fav this year (who is very interested in music and actually plays the piano to quite a high standard with the certificates to prove it so her opinion is worth more than mine techinically) and RAJC made a video about why he felt the sound deserved to win - so love comes from the UK too.
