Waterman is my favorite. Something about it is just so entrancing.

Couldn't agree more. I have Spain as my winner and Germany 2nd, but Netherlands in a well-deserved 3rd. There's something so intriguing yet melancholic about the song, I can't find the right words to describe how I feel about it. Certainly one of the more interesting songs of the contest

I would have to concur with your No.1. Purely for the easy emotional connection with us the audience. - Meanwhile Ireland and UK songs reflected a simpler sentimental period in pop music, perhaps in response to the social upheavels of the 60s (including its experimental and groundbreaking musical soundtrack) and the technological advances such as reaching the moon, etc. If I am honest I actually don't enjoy any of these songs, but I enjoyed reading your appreciation of them. 👍

This is pretty much a perfect year! Even the Yugoslavian entry is good. And we agree, Julio Iglesias deserved to be first! ❤

Except for Ireland, whom I put in top 5, I kinda agree about your list, especially about your top 3. In all, a quite good year.🥳

Was definitely better than the song that eventually ended up winning, I guess.

I cannot stand Gwendolyne by Julio Iglesias.
I do wonder why people always go on about ABBA & Celine Dion, but never mention him when speaking about success after Eurovision.
Football player for Real Madrid, gets into a crash & the nurse gives him a guitar. He goes to ESC & the rest is history. They even made a film about it. He's apparently the biggest selling Hispanic singer in the world. And there's of course also nepo-baby Enrique Iglesias, biggest selling Latin-American singer.
Is it really the language barrier?
