Thank you. After many, MANY years as a film photographer (mostly hobby) I had my entire darkroom and camera gear (Canon F1n with lots of lenses and a full load of accessories) 'lost' in shipping during a move across the states. My begrudging replacement was this M6 Mark II. Actually more and more impressed with it. Your video helps me 'relax' about so many settings. Looking forward to checking out more of your videos, especially now that I have retired from 45 years of tech and am getting more time behind the camera.
Cool! If you have any questions let me know.
Great video! I just bought this camera and I appreciate your detailed instruction on the settings for this camera. I am an engineer by trade, but enjoy photography and videography as a hobby. Your instruction is well thought out and extremely useful for people like me. I appreciate the effort you put into your videos. Keep up the good work!
Thanks. I appreciate that. I think my straight forward instruction approach is due to being a middle school science teacher.
Thanks for the video, I just bought the camera yesterday and am awaiting delivery, had no clue what to expect but a bit clearer on the operating side. I look forward to your future videos on the operating techniques.
Very thorough. Extremely useful rather than a celebration.
Thanks.
Thank you for this, it really helped me set my new camera up and now I am ready to use. 🙏😁
This is so cool Uncle Peter!! I really enjoy your videos!!☺️🥰
So useful. i had an M5 but forgot how i set it up. this saved me a lot of time and hassle. 🥰
Thanks for sharing this. I just picked this camera up and the mode guide was driving me crazy! Great tutorial!
Happy it helped.
I'm loving this camera so far.
Also, your video was the very first video that came up when I searched for Mark II setup.
Nice! Well I have a few. I hope the others are helpful as well.
Really useful - to someone who is getting rather confused by the computer guide! Look forward to more info in this form. Thanks.
Happy this helps.
Thanks for the clear explanation. I look forward to learning how you have programmed the “custom” settings.
I'm going to address the audio settings then I'm moving to custom settings. Thanks for the comment.
Your experience is so good sirpeter👍🏻
thank you very much for the subtitles !!!
Very helpful, thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
FANTASTIC VIDEO. cheers heaps!
Thanks!
Awesome Sausage... Thanks so much, and I look forward to more.
More to come!
The tip about MF peaking was super helpful, thanks.
Glad it was helpful! I use it all the time with the magnification tool to get the best focus I can.
Your video very Helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
Nice vlog Peter, I have just bought this camera as a vlogging camera for my landscape photography vlogs, I use c log which is perfect for vlogging outdoors. C LOG as you know does not come with the camera but you can down load it and upload it to the camera. just thought I would mention this, I am in the process of doing a vlog about c log and why you should use it.
I did not know you could download C LOG. Looking forward to your video.
@@faspete2nd yes and it works incredibly well restoring the highlights and shadows as it should.
Quite helpful
Happy it was helpful for you.
@4:06 of the presentation you state you reasons for setting the picture style to neutral however it’s my understanding that picture styles are specific to JPEG and don’t influence raw files. In other words because you shoot raw only it doesn’t matter what picture style you select.
Correct. I misspoke. I'm currently working on another video correcting my mistakes from my m6 Mark II series. There are a few videos where I made mistakes and I want to correct them all in one video.
After using the M6 mk2 for 2 years now, I think that is the best small camera I have used. I now have an R6 but still prefer the M6 for most work. Just wish that they had included a built in EVF, Peter.
I with the EVF was included as well.
Great video. Thank you. I am looking foreword for your next videos in Canon M6 Mark ii series
Thanks.
Hey mate great video, can I just say that when you choose a picture style in raw it doesn't change anything, the style is only used in jpeg shooting :)
I know. I'm an idiot. I realized that after I posted. 😀
ths a lot🙏❤
You are welcome.
Thanks
You're welcome.
Great great video!! Thanks! Have you gotten the update yet?
Yes. I did a video on how to do it.
Great review. My question is when would you enable continuous AF function? It seems to work great except it keeps trying to focus when I don't want it to.
Good question. I think you answered it yourself. You would use it when you wanted to continuously focus on something. I always have it disabled because I don't want it constantly trying to jump around and focus on other things other then my subject. I find continuous focus more annoying than helpful. But everyone is different and each person uses the camera differently. I'm my shooting I've never found a need for it.
@@faspete2nd Bingo! Now I see that I don't need it and disabled it. Man I have only had it for two weeks but love it. Way more than my 7d. Thanks
thanks, i just got this camera and this was a huge help getting set up. can you explain lens options other than EOS M. i know there is an adapter for EF lenses but other options are a little confusing.
If you get the EF-EFM adapter you should be able to adapt any EF or EF-S lenses on any of the EOS-M series cameras. I've done 2 videos on some lenses you can use. Just look at my playlist and you should see them. Trinity of lenses along with best vlog lens.
There are also third-party lenses that support the M series along with the EF series Tamron, Sigma, and others. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions. I'll help of I can and let you know if I can't.
@@faspete2nd awesome, thanks so much...........
I have an issue when I am manual and I set my depth of field its make the background slightly less blurry than what I see? I am using the sigma 16 mm
Not sure that the issue can be. Sorry.
Thanks for sharing ! Just picked one up today . On a 128 GB card shooting in raw , how many photos can I store ?
I am not sure, but if you look in the top left corner of the lcd screen you should see a number that tells you how many. Each time you take a picture the number will change to let you know how many you have left.
Hi Peter.
Thank you so much for the videos. I was wondering, because I cannot find this information anywhere. Is there a way to keep the Histogram on the screen while you are recording video. No matter what I do it always goes away as soon as I start recording.
I don't know the answer to that. Sorry.
Thanks very much for the videos.
I wonder if you or anyone can clear something up for me.
Pretty sure I read that the m6 mkii had been crippled in the hotshoe department and watching your video here, it looks like your hotshoe has plastic where there might normally be a pin or in my case five.
I just tried a cheap flash that I got with my camera bundle and it does in fact fire.
I've heard that canon was trying to encourage people to buy their flashes.
I could be all kinds of wrong but anyone know what's going on?
Thanks.
As far as I know it's a normal hotshoe.
great instruction video, thanks!! There is one thing I cannot find. On the screen for wrench, tab 4, setup info-screen. I see examples where you have the horizon-leveller in the middle of the screen. Somehow I cannot get this leveller to show up. What do I do wrong?
You didn't do anything wrong. Take a look at my tips and tricks video. It shows you how to get the level to appear and some other hidden features.
@@whiskeyisajourney got it, thanks! So I was in tracking focus all the time. Never noticed it reappears in the other modes. Solved!
Good to know.
Without the firmware update, if you change to video mode, you can shoot 4k 30...
Correct. Did I not say that or did I make a mistake as I was speaking?
@@faspete2nd probably... Nevertheless great video, thanks for uploading...
Very helpful for me to decide between this and the X-S10. Thank you. What are your three biggest complaints or regrets otherwise that buying a different camera would have not been an issue. I'm thinking for me it would be the flip up screen being blocked, the lack of 240 fps at 1080 that the X-S10 does that I might use on butterflies, bees or birds, and maybe 4k video not being as good. Thanks again sir.
Funny you brought up the flip screen. Having the R6 and the M6 with both having different screen angles makes me appreciate both. Sometimes I like the flip up and sometimes I like the full articulating screen. Recording video in studio I like the flip up because I use a shotgun mic on a boom and the cord does not block the screen like it does with the flip out screen. I like the flip out for vlogging so the on camera mic does not block the LCD like it does on the flip up. I don't shoot high frame rates so that's not a factor for me in the M6, but not having auto focus when shooting 120fps in the M6 is a pain when I do want to shoot 120fps. My biggest complaint would be the 4k quality. It's soft and I feel it should be better, but that's a very small complaint. My last complaint or regret would be not having animal eye detect. Since I mainly shoot wildlife it would be nice to have that feature. Does any of that help you decide? That's all I got for you.
@@faspete2nd Wow animal eye detect! That's something else I'll add to my consideration list. Thank you for the long reply Peter.
Under Custom shooting modes (C1,C2) can you save video settings on those? Or is just for photography settings?
The C1 and C2 settings are primarily for stills, but you have the ability to set your video settings to 1080p at 60fps, 30fps, or 720p at 60fps. So if you are in C1 or C2 and you need to quickly shoot video all you need to do is press the record button. Keep in mind the only way you can shoot in 4k is to be in video mode.
Peter Fasciano ahhh that was helpful! At least maybe I could set C1 as 1080 60p for slow mo and switch back to movie mode for 4K
Hey mate great video, can I just say there are hundreds of UTube videos on the M6mk2 .for vlogging, selfies, and the Video’ aspects But Non that show what the camera can do For Landscape with large vestas, with mountain backdrops,it will be appreciated if you have any thanks
I got the M6 Mark II for landscape photography, but got sidetracked with birds. I'll work on a video for you. The M6 is with Canon right now being repaired. As soon as I get it back I'll see what I can produce for you.
Peter Fasciano, you mentioned there'll be a video on Wifi connection upload to cloud. I've connected the camera and the apps for automatic upload to Google One, but somehow doesn't matter how long I leave the camera on, it does not automatically appear in my google one photos. Could you walk us through the process and how to see it on the cloud? Thanks.
I have started and stopped this video 10 times. I am still working on it. I hope to have it out in Dec. Maybe my next video. Fingers crossed. I am not sure why I am struggling with it.
Hi Peter, I was wondering how do you make the electronic level show up when taking pictures, I have that box checked on yellow section "screen info setting" menu but when I'm take pictures, the level indicator just don't show up.
Go to wrench menu #4 Shooting info. disp, Screen info. settings, Screen info. settings option 3 and select OK. If you have a VF then you can go into VF info/toggle settings and select option 3 and select OK and you will see the level in the VF as well. One more thing...You will only see the level when the camera is in sport AF, 1-point AF, or Zone AF. IT WILL NOT SHOW UP IF YOU ARE FACE TRACKING MODE. Hope this helps. Let me know if you get it.
@@faspete2nd yeah, I realized it's because the focus mode I'm at is why it's not showing. Is it possible in the future you can make a video specific on that topic like how to get the best out of that feature. I don't see much videos out there explain this.
Is there something I missed? Let me know in the comments below.
💙🙌
Thanks.
Is that an eye piece on this camera? If so where can I get one? I need one for outdoor shooting
EVF-DC 2. Amazon, B&H, Adorama, Canon store.
@@faspete2nd thanks Peter. I appreciate your videos on this camera. Is the eye piece easy to use ?
@@macopus clicks right into the hot shoe and works seamlessly.
Can you record to a usb c ssd?
I'm sorry, but I don't know. My initial thought is no. The USB c port on the camera is used to transfer the files from the card in the camera to external storage or computer. You can use the HDMI port to hook up to an external recorder, but I don't know if you can record directly to an SSD. That's all I know. Sorry.

Thanks.
Where the grid display settings.. Thx
Select Yellow wrench menu #4 Shooting info. disp. That will open a new menu where you will see grid display.

Is this good or bad? You responded this way to a few videos.
