Dear, Peter! I am so grateful for your very good and clear instruction and important advice how to shoot silently with my Canon M6 MarkII I recently purchased as used! Tonight was my first photographing with this recently gotten Mark II camera, but I could not find out how to change from mechanical shutter to an electronic silent shutter when photographing the waining moon tonight about at 2 a.m. from the hall in the house I live in so I did not wake up my neighbors, and then I found your instructions here on your channel! What a wonderful discovery and now the exposers are silent and almost no vibrations accumulate during the super-tele exposers! Thank you so very very much! Stay blessed! Subscribing to you your important and excellent channel!
First time with a canon, had nikon cameras for years, literally this is the first day with the m6 ii and the first thing i wanted was silent mode. Everywhere else on the internet says it cant be done, but your 4 min you tube vid says it can and it has so ive subscribed as it might just save me a lot of time, so many thanks really pleased with this and i will look back in a day or so time for another time saving method.
You explain the process very well and even I at 82yrs can follow you. Thank you. At my age I am kinda restricted to backyard bird photography. I am a bit puzzled though. I assume when are shooting birds you would be using the available 14 frames per second on the m 6 mark II. HOW could you get any savers when restricted to single shot in silent mode. My confusion had me searching for a setting in silent mode which would allow multiple shots. Of course I never found such a setting. You have given me more confidence when using my m 6 mark II. Keep up the good work. I will continue to seek your advice about what to me is an amazing camera…..just a bit better than my canon EOS Elan film camera which sits on my display shelf. Joe McGrath
Peter, you missed a point: Anti-flicker shoot also must be turned off for the electronic shutter to work. That is the third menu option down from the mechanical/electronic shutter choice.
Silent shutter* is gonna be aply for M mode, triggering flash off camera(external flash unit) ? Time speed setting 1/200 or faster(1/1000-1/4000)? I mean settings for portrait(studio - outdoor) Thank you!
Since the m6 ii doesn't have electronic front curtain shutter (EFCS),it has been noted to have some shutter shock. Have you noticed it in real world usage?
Hi is important for me this video i have understand than c1 is almost m BUT when i use c1 and i select HI frame + the sutter become in mechanical first and my c1 is in P not in M how can i change my c1 in M like yours ??
Make sure you camera is in M mode. Go to your C1 settings and set up the camera that way you want and when you save your C1 settings you will remain in Manual mode.
Hey Peter, I haven't been able to figure out how to manually adjust aperture, ISO, or shutter speed with the wheels while on Custom modes, but it seems like you've got that ability in C1. Any advice on how to do that on the m6mkii?
How do you want to customize it? Aperture, shutter speed, and ISO are already controlled by using the wheels. Shutter speed can be changed by using the front wheel using index finger, Aperture can be adjusted using your thumb on the top wheel in the back and the ISO can be changed by pushing the DIAL FUNC and then spinning the front wheel. If you want to change that you need to go into the Orange Camera Icon and remap the buttons using the C.FnIII: Operation/Others option. Let me know if this helps or confuses you or give me a better idea of how you want to customize it.
@@faspete2nd I just realized that my issue only occurs on C2. Like shown in your video, C1 is fully adjustable using the wheels. When I switch to C2, I lose the function of the wheels. Any ideas on why that's the case?
@@Danielated C2 is not a manual mode so you will not have control of all the dials. C2 is a priority mode. There camera will automatically control some of the settings for you.
@@faspete2nd Ah that makes more sense! I was really frustrated that it wasn't letting me set things. If I had it my way, I'd have 10 custom modes haha! Thanks for the videos on a niche camera. It's helped me a lot.
When I switched from "M" to "C1" -- I did Not get the same "C1M" you got in this video. I got "C1P"? I followed what you did in this video... by putting the Shutter back to 'Mechanical' and the Drive mode to 'HHH' (Hign Spd.Cont.)... I don't get it?
What do you get when you switch to C2? If you are trying to shoot silent you will not be able to if you are on mechanical and continuous shooting. Your drive mode needs to be set to single shot (Camera Icon Menu 1) in order to set electronic shutter (Camera Icon menu 6).
I am stumped. I have been looking through the menu settings for a few hours now and for the life of me I can not figure out how you change your C1 to manual. I will keep looking and if I get it figured out I will let you know.
@@faspete2nd Back to Silent Shooting, I take it from what I have been able to find -- that you can Only shoot Silently in Manual Mode? Any other mode has shutter burst sound.
Why is that limitation in there I wonder. It would seem the point of 'electronic' is to be fast. Is it because EOS M6 Mark II was an early adopter? Newer R cameras probably don't have this limitation.
Thanks to all my new subscribers. Comment below and let me know what you want to see with the M6 Mark II.

Thanks! I was disappointed with the 1 shot as well, but the noise at 14 fps is manageable for birds....in my opinion. Happy shooting.
This is very useful for me to do timelapse. Thank you 🙏🏻
Glad it was helpful!

You can custom C2 to be manual as well
At the time of making the video I was not sure, but viewers informed me that it was possible.

No. I have not experienced anything like that in real world usage.
It's amazing camera I personally like it sirpeter😍😘

I did a video on Raw Burst mode. ua-cam.com/video/H9j9bGdyeFc/v-deo.html

As long as your drive mode is set to Single shooting you can shoot silently in any photo mode (Av, Tv, P, Fv).
Why i only have 5 option while you in this video reach until 9 option?
Make sure you are in Manual mode. If you are in Auto mode options are limited.
My camera makes some noises when turning off, is this normal? Thanks.
Could be the sensor cleaner.
You lose the high speed drive in silent. So for wild life its a bit pointless
I agree. When I owned the camera I think I used silent mode 2 times and never used it again.
