  • My son has been using the Nexus7 2013 for a couple of years and now knows how to record. The tablet freezes when he records at up to 20 mins and it feels really hot in the back. Tablet needs to be force shut down and sometimes I even need to unplug and replug the battery as it will boot loop due to the overheating. So I tried to cool down the cpu with thermal paste and copper shims and it actually helped thus far. For moderate use I brought the CPU temps down from 68 C (stock) to 54 C. For heavy intense use CPU temps dropped from 82 C (stock) down to 76 C . Other benefits to cooling the CPU is smoother performance and increasing the life of the product.
    This was not easy. It took multiple tries and sometimes the tablet failed to turn back on. Don't get any thermal paste on the board or the nearby circuits, use a small amount only on top of the chips. Ground yourself (by touching metal parts of the tablets) and remove the battery before touching internals of tablet. The case is very hard to remove, my case has dents and gouges all around, haha, but IDC bc I look at the screen when in use.

    I can confirm that this is indeed the greatest android tablet of all time. Still use mine almost daily and it has definitely slowed down quite a bit. But I think it could be due to the OS (android 6.0) and software being updated constantly, the processor just can't take it anymore.
    ((Also that debit card I see in the video better be expired/non-active cuz damn...))

      I still have a working 2nd Gen Nexus 7, but its really slow and I had to disable a lot of the apps in order to get it running acceptably. I pretty much use it to watch UA-cam videos. The software was a limiting factor as it aged, but eventually the hardware also didn't age well either. I have it running stock Android. Yeah, I use expired cards to open up my electronics, they work great for that, haha.

      I have used Arctic Silver5 in the past, great stuff. More recently I tried Arctic's MX4 and Gelid GC Extreme and oh boy the GC Extreme kicks ass.

      It's one of the greatest Android tablets ever made. I'm disappointed that Google didn't update it, but rumors are Google is working on a new tablet

      Sadly, I really doubt Google will make another 7inch form factor tablet. I think they are moving towards a tablet that runs Chrome OS, because it can run Android apps. The Acer Chromebook Tab 10 is the first experimental device like that.

    Hi, does it necessary to use a thermal adhesive or can I use thermal paste? What do you think about to use a Grizzly minus thermal pad?

    • @ChavezDIY
      @ChavezDIY  3 роки тому

      It's not necessary to use thermal adhesive. As long as you have the copper tape securing any copper shims, you should be good with thermal paste. I don't have experience using those grizzly minus pads. If you're going to use those pads, don't use the copper shims because it will be hard to put the rear case back on.

      @@ChavezDIY : Thanks for your answer. I will try this with my Grizzly Kryonaut thermal paste and compare the results. 👍 How do you take care about that there is a continuously contact pressure between CPU/GPU and heatspreader? Do you get the pressure with the backcover?

    • @ChavezDIY
      @ChavezDIY  3 роки тому

      After adding the paste on the chips, I seat the heat spreader and lift it again to make sure there is contact between the chip and heat spreader. There is no way to ensure a specific amount of pressure, as long as there is contact, you're good. The back cover will provide some pressure if you put a copper shim like I did.

    isn't it bad for the chip when you put thermal paste directly in it?

    • @ChavezDIY
      @ChavezDIY  4 роки тому +2

      Nope. Its actually helpful in cooling the chip efficiently. Laptops and desktops also come with thermal paste sandwiched between the CPU/GPU and the fan and heatsink.
