@utrian4148 the only important headphones that need to be plugged into a jack are audiophile grade open back cans. Those types are headphones that typically can't be powered by just a phone. Phones can't overcome the impedence needed to drive most of those open backs. Plus open backs aren't good for public listening. Just use a Bluetooth headset. @@strubbleleryuuuup. Like, if you have a camera bump from a large camera, then just fill the rest of the body with a bigger battery to make it flat again
@@strubbleler Funny thing is their sister phone, the nubia z60 ultra, does the complete opposite. It has a huge ass camera bump on top of a thick body.
i legitemately wouldn't mind an extra 1-3 mm of phone thickness to make the back of the phone flat. Tbf, you could just put a phone case and for the most part, it'll remove the camera bump. but imagine what 1-3mm extra thick battery would be like
It has a headphone jack an IR blaster and charger in the box all for $650 from their site and now the cameras are actually decent now this thing is a steal
I wonder what the cell reception is like in North America. Sometimes it's a crapshoot with these Chinese phones since they use different bands over there. It's always good to double check.
That seems equally dumb though; if you have an outlet you should also be powering the phone. I suppose if it did some wireless charging to the phone through the cooler that would be fine but also more complicated than it needs to be.
As an ROG phone users, that argument about the holepunch selfie camera was ON POINT, like wtf was asus thinking adding a holepunch camera to the rog phone 8? And also changing the dual speakers from dual front-firing to only single front firing speaker and 1 side firing speaker. Like what kind of drugs are they on???
Wow, yeah I had a ROG 6 for a bit until I realized I could not handle the size as a daily driver, but it was a good part due to those two points that I got it in the first place.
This drug known as "Money". They're trying to reach a wider audience to increase their profits. The ROG Phone 8 is to Gaming Smartphones like Attack on Titan is to Anime. It's a Gaming Smartphone for Non-Gamers. Which is inherently stupid, cuz why the hell would I go to the Republic of Gamers for a normal-looking phone in the first place? Asus already has the Zenphone.

I've been daily driving the 8 Pro 16gb/512gb since July and the battery is probably the best feature. 2-3 days easy under normal use.. 5.5 hours playing Genshin. I've modded mine with dust covers on the fan vents to keep water and dust out, and a nice case with a transparent back. Even if you're not into gaming, it's a great daily driver phone too.
I use my s23 ultra for gaming 9+ hours a day total average of 14 hours of screen time so I wanna get a proper gaming phone since I play things like genshin and black desert on my phone
Me too, don't even game on it but got it because of the low price (compared to other phones with flagship specs), full screen with no camera hole, and the large battery. It's a pretty great all-round phone even if it's marketed as a gaming one.
I also have a redmagic 8 pro and dicovered some bugs, but I bought it rooted, so I'm curious if you have these too: Most equalizers don't work e.g Spotify's and YT Music's, even a lot of equalizer apps. The developer settings reset and disable when changing the dpi, except for the dpi. Not being able to set a password/pin/fingerprint etc. appears to be just a root problem and there are problem fixes I can remember having some graphics in Genshin that made it partially look like straight outta the 90s, but that fixed itself within 2 days. And the notification of a media player somehow switches between dark and light mode when playing and not playing. And I'm generally missing the progress slider in notifications, but I think that's just bad UI design. Alongside a lot of other not so good UI design like their gesture navigation. I'm glad I'm used to the navigation buttons. I'm pretty sure that I discovered more bugs, but I can't remember them. Just could count up a bunch of bad UI stuff...
The Xperia Z1 compact and regular Z2 are still some of the nicest phones I’ve ever had. I remember shooting in 4K on my Z2 in early 2015 when it was unheard of almost. And they felt so nice.. I can’t stand the new tall screen look.
I am personally missing My Z Ultra which was one of a Kind and Yeh, My beloved Z which had next to the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the Z3 which i had almost right after. @@Artemis-v8igot a free Gallium Nitrate 120w charger with my phone. You cannot convince me that isn't a good inclusion 🤷♂️ Good enough to charge a lot of accessories fast
I've thought about this for a number of years now ... and I sort of agree? Considering you can get a quality 65W charger for under $40, it might make more sense to just sell the phone with more features or at a lower price. Would I rather get a charger in the box or a better screen? Or camera assembly? Or 65W charging speeds as opposed to a 35W charger? But I get why, with such a high power draw, you'd want to have a charger in the box. And more often than not, you don't get extra features. They just make $25 more per unit.
I was so disappointed when the ROG Phone 8 got a hole punch and reduced battery size, a good display with no holes or notches is one of the primary reasons I got the ROG Phone II and my current ROG Phone 7. I'm not exactly in the market for a new one yet but it's good to know that someone's likely going to be there when it's time for me to upgrade. I've never had a phone with a hole punch or notch (or a 3.5mm jack, a feature I use surprisingly often), and it's a hill I'm fully prepared to die on.
Yeah, I'm not really sure where to go from my ROG 2. The screen cutout/holepunch and no headphone jack on most options is a deal breaker. This phone looks appealing, but it's an Asia first phone - does it support VoLTE or wifi calling? Some US networks won't let you use a phone without them. Plus the side firing speakers are less than ideal, just give me some bezels so I have a place to actually hold the handheld device and we can put front firing speakers there too.
@@SethFroGo The only other option I looked at before settling on the ROG 7 was the Sony Xperia V, has a good square display with no holes or notches, stereo front firing speakers and a 3.5mm jack
Finally a phone with flush camera, still not used to those camera bumps (like in every phone). Hoping to see more phone with this "modern technology of the future".
Might be because it's the latest...not like there's many models that use that. Sadly. The notch/punch hole are terrible. I'd rather have no front camera at all.
Kind of a shame Mora was skipped over. It could be another thing that sets the software apart. I get it, Linus is too cool for 2D waifus. But the assumption that this is only for other markets is not fair. I'd love to know how it works. Is it like Bixby and it's own thing? Or a front end for Google assistant? Or maybe just a very basic system like Bluetooth voice control used to be? Etc
Unfortunately it is because it's mostly catered to having a waifu, period. i have the phone and most of the features are based on having Mora around, you can get her in the home screen, see an animation of her charging up like she's the phone itself, get her a pet, the most useful feature i see are... alarms but Mora is the one that will wake you up. The most outstanding feature is using Mora as your VTuber persona for streaming anonymous and an honorable mention to the feature that displayed her irl just like pokemons in pkmn GO, there's nothing useful about it, you can make her pose and rotate, which admittedly can be fun to mess around once. in summary, it just is waifu stuff
I have a redmagic 8 Pro and I can tell you right now that Mora's nothing more than a glorified wallpaper that talks to you and reacts to you when you for example: shake your phone, it's very dark in your area so it asks where are you or other little things. It doesn't do anything useful like say Bixby or Alexa will do for you
Because Linus is a coward and doesn’t wanna touch on waifus more than necessary because he’s scared to death over losing all the fans who hate that. It’s like the middle school mentality of pretending to hate something to try and fit in with the "cool" kids (read that as ignorant and insecure), even though he don’t really have anything against it, and might even like it. I’m guessing he also doesn’t want any rumors to spread.
The new macbooks don't need much cooling at all tbh. My m2 max macbook pro is so much "colder" than any other performance based windows laptop I've ever had. I hear the fans a decent amount while playing bg3 at ultra presets and slightly above 4k resolution, but it never gets very warm. I never even hear the fans on my very cpu intensive panorama creations in Lightroom with about 200 photos which result in a 600mp image. It took my previous laptop about an hour to compile them while plugged in (the battery died when unplugged, but wouldve been at least 2 hours). The m2 max does it in about 20 minutes while whisper quiet and using about 5-10% of my battery. TLDR, the cooling they do have in the current macbooks works amazingly
The lack of any functional return policy if I don't like it, and the fact they don't test the cameras at all (which as I understand it is pretty standard for ShortCircuit phone unboxings) are the main things giving me big second thoughts about this. Otherwise, even as a non-mobile-gamer, it looks like a steal for what it is and does. I love a lot of the design choices; flat rear camera, transparent front camera, headphone jack, etc.
ayn odin 2 pro for half the price. yes the odin is not pocketable like this device, but i need a cheap phone because of my job (lot of dust) and i don't like gaming on the same device i use for communication. 300 more dollar for switching from snap8 gen 2 to snap8 gen 3 + one waifu is not worth for me, at this time the snap8 gen 2 is only limited by the optimisation of emulator and driver software.

I looked up the greats and gripes of its predecessor the 8 Pro, including the poor software translation and the "measly" 2 years of updates. Sure the updates situation hasn't changed, but I haven't seen software translation issues yet. Coming from a Motorola G8 Plus, the difference was night and day. The squared out, uninterrupted screen is gorgeous, the performance is rock solid, it's a bit of a slab volume-wise but I rather that than a flimsy phone now. The edges are aluminum. The fan is not loud at all. I don't have all the accessories he presented, coolers and gamepad, even then a good Xbox controller with a phone holder adapter works well enough, just be careful with your choice of phone case as the power and Vol- buttons are right in the middle of the right edge where a phone holder would grip and push down.

Honestly, I was seriously considering this phone for my next upgrade, but it doesn't have the right 5G bands for me to rely on it. This is something that no one ever seems to talk about in any videos about phones, but is extremely important for people to make the right decision.
@@Labergemusic each cell network has certain bands that they use for signal and each phone only supports certain bands. This is why there are North American versions of phones vs world wide versions of phones and sometimes separate EU versions of phones. Phones made for the NA market will almost always support the NA specific bands as well as most if not all others used in NA, but not necessarily all of the bands that are used elsewhere in the world. Many of these phones from Chinese manufacturers, or really any that are not made specifically for the NA market are often missing some or all of the NA specific bands. I use T-Mobile and where I live on 4G it is almost always band 66, that is NA specific, and when I tested with a phone that didn't support that band, I had very little coverage anywhere that I tested driving around the city.
@@Labergemusic all of the information for the supported bands on the phones and the bands your cell network uses is usually pretty easy to look up online with simple Google searches. Some cell companies have some ability to show the coverage by band, but that is not very common or easy to see specific information about.
I would absolutely love to have one of these but the fan and the missing IP rating throws me off. Especially when I don't really game or need the performance anyway. Genuinly looks and seems like a awesome phone and the specs for the price are top notch, not the best camera but the overall phone is so good I wouldnt worry. And man that game pad looks legit.
I've been using the 8 pro for a year now. I don't use Mira or Linus fake wife a lot though, she just doesn't add much for me. But that sweet, sweet performance for the price is so good. The OS is stable and works, very much base android with the red magic flavours added, the software they added isn't very heavy and does it's job. They provide 2 years of software updates for my device, I don't know if they extended that time for the latest device. In the end, you buy this phone for the spec's/performance to price ratio, for photo's and video, look for something else, like a Pixel or Samsung. I'll probably get the RedMagic 11 Pro whenever that's realised in the future.
Im prob going with the 10s pro, currently also rocking the 8s pro, insane phone, Great battery, good enough camera, software is kinda a let down but havnt faced any issues so can't really complain, and damn this beautiful ass screen, can't get enough of it
I would love if they would just make phones twice as thick, include a full laptop fan, make the thing indestructible unlike modern phones I am afraid to lean up against a counter with it in my pocket
One thing i would be kind of concerned about would be dirt and dust clogging up the air vents. On most devices this wouldnt be a problem because theyre big enough to let most stuff through but that tiny hole combined with some pocket lint i think could become a real nightmare in the long run

That controller accessory seems pretty robust also. The gaming community is going gaga over Hall-tech. Gulikit must be making good money.
For raw performance, yeah Redmagic is pretty unbeatable. But Samsung does have pretty good software support/updates and some tricks up its sleeve for power users (including DEX mode, Goodlock, work profile, better multi-window support than most, the sidebar, dual messenger, s-pen for the Ultra). Specs shouldn't be the main thing. There's tons of "200 mp" cameras out there that look worse than the 12mp shooter on the pixel 7a. At this point its less about raw performance and more how well the software is tuned.
@@pabl0sauced0Agreed. MP have never meant anything except for how many pixels the manufacturers decide the file should have. You could have a crappy camera from 1995 take a 200MP photo and it’s just going to be a large file, not a good photo. Samsung users fall for the “more megapixel good” marketing though all the time because they don’t understand how a camera works. No phone camera can be considered “good”. Even the best are only barely acceptable. My 12MP DSLR from 2008 takes significantly better pictures than any phone camera can or probably ever will, just because of the physics of light. Small sensors on phones are horrid. The Google Pixels in general have the best cameras for sure, but they’re still bad.
I can almost CERTAINLY guarantee that the handheld controller for this was made by GameSir. Their G8 Galileo looks nearly IDENTICAL, comes similarly packaged, and other than branding and color is nearly a 1:1 copy in every way.

Why not test battery charge speed 0-80% instead or as well? To 100% the physical charging limita are very different, plus the manufacturer changes the charge curve, plus a lot of people stop charging at 80% to atempt to limit battery damage. By testing all phones to 80%, the differences in charging current between devices will become more apparent. By testing fastest to 100%, you are encouraging these manufacturers to blast the phone battery as hard as posible to get that hard-to-get last 20% to claim they are the best.
I think having it as well is very important because of everything you mentioned, and both data points have their own relance to a lot of people. Hopefully that can be a consideration as they further develop the lab and their data visuals.
you will solve all of that by including an option in battery settings to limit the charging to a point % you are comfortable with, my laptop has that option, some phones have that option and all phones should nave it. with it set up, the speed at witch you charge becomes less important. as an example, my phone: huawei p20pro 2018 - 2024 started from 4000 mAh is now at 3129 mAh, that is a loss of 22% of my battery capacity in 5 years with normal usage. if i had the option to limit the charge at 90 or 80% i could have reduced it somewhat. even better would be to include the option to reduce the charging speeds in the phone settings.
The Red Magic 9 Pro seems to be a game-changer, especially with the Snapdragon 8 gen 3 chip improving its performance and efficiency. The under-screen front-facing camera seems pretty impressive too.

~3.33C charging? wow. I wonder if labs can do testing of battery health after years of that high rate charge. That would be nice data to see with charging speeds going the way they are.
I have been using the Red Magic 5G for 4 years. And the battery is still as new. I don't drop it below %20 and only charge it up to %80. Unless occasionally I had to drop it to 0% or get it to %100. The 9 Pro is %100 faster in all aspects than the 5G variant. My games consume half the power than the 5G and the same FPS and the same power with double the FPS. Been charging the phone and playing all the time with no throttling issues whatsoever, in controlled ambient temperature,
Just said the same thing.... I was like "heeeeyyyyy I have that controller!!" Honestly an amazing controller all around, best phone controller I have every owned!!!
8:03 I think that they should have reduced the resolution from 2480x1116 (2.77mp) to 2400x1080 (2.59mp). I mean, 0.18mp isn't much, but it still reduces the number of pixels and gives you more fps. And you get a pixel-perfect image watching 1080p content.
Can we all stop commenting on whether or not a device comes with a charger or cable? Of all the shitty things tech companies do to save a buck, this one is actually a good thing: Less waste. Nine times out of ten, you already have a correct charger and cable for a new device. They should only come with one if they have some special sauce hyper charging nonsense that requires a special charger. But also they shouldn't have proprietary crap like that, so no free passes there. Let me buy a charger and cable from my favorite manufacturer in the style, color, length, wattage, etc that I need for my usecase. And don't give me one more piece of e-waste in the box.
That's true but it would be nice if you could just specify if you want a charger in the box when ordering online, since that's where a large portion of purchases happen anyways.
This thing is looking mighty attractive as a smartphone that doubles as an emulation handheld. Huge bonus that their official gamepad attachment appears to be high quality.

i legitemately wouldn't mind an extra 1-3 mm of phone thickness to make the back of the phone flat. Tbf, you could just put a phone case and for the most part, it'll remove the camera bump. but imagine what 1-3mm extra thick battery would be like

this is very true, especially that it has peltier inside
I was gonna say the same thing, in the best of both worlds there would be a short and long cabled, but yes a long one does make sense for outlet use.
Linus is not a real reviewer so it's understandable that he wouldn't come to this conclusion.
That seems equally dumb though; if you have an outlet you should also be powering the phone. I suppose if it did some wireless charging to the phone through the cooler that would be fine but also more complicated than it needs to be.

🤮
Me too, don't even game on it but got it because of the low price (compared to other phones with flagship specs), full screen with no camera hole, and the large battery. It's a pretty great all-round phone even if it's marketed as a gaming one.
I also have a redmagic 8 pro and dicovered some bugs, but I bought it rooted, so I'm curious if you have these too:
Most equalizers don't work e.g Spotify's and YT Music's, even a lot of equalizer apps.
The developer settings reset and disable when changing the dpi, except for the dpi.
Not being able to set a password/pin/fingerprint etc. appears to be just a root problem and there are problem fixes
I can remember having some graphics in Genshin that made it partially look like straight outta the 90s, but that fixed itself within 2 days.

Convenience is the cousin of wastefulness. I have drawers full of junk Micro USB cables that are quickly becoming useless.

One plus 7 pro had better photos from its front camera under the screen.
Etc
Exactly very disappointed in him ...

Probably has better cooling than most MacBooks 😂
My man went there ouch
The simple fact that it has a fan and it does something to the CPU already makes it better than all Macbook Airs.

I did that with an old Moto-z and the "share" projector and it was a bad-ass retro console.
@@greenprotag Depends. I always prefer to hold on to my phone for as long as I can but typically I've upgraded after 2 years have passed since the last OS update. So the new policy with the Pixel 8 and Samsung S24 seem very appealing to me, as I'll be able to comfortably use my phone for a long time. I just don't like upgrading my phone frequently, I've just had to so far.
That mobile controller is a Gamesir G8 Galileo with a much cooler colourway. Wonderful controller btw.
im here for the anime waifu
Same
im buying it just for the waifu
Get some help.

very cool catto
I have the Snapdragon s24 plus and it is absolutely flying. I can't believe how fast it is
Want! Very impressed with that pricetag! $800 USD and better specs than any Samsung or Apple product. Love to see competition in the industry
I just really hope they have good software support/updates because a non-trivial chunk of the money we're paying is for that.
I think I still prefer pop-up front cameras. The OP7 Pro's was reliable unless you are rough with expensive tech
obviously but we are never ever getting these again cos "muh reliability and moving parts eugh"
This phone is a beast. Don't forget that it has passive charging.
I only came here for Mora and he skips it!! 😡
Note: after a month with my Red magic. Loving the phones power. Don't buy their controller attachment buy a Razer kishi v2 (Version 1 dose not fit) Its much better then the red version of it. After fully switching I am incredibly happy. My Samsung watch is not as happy but an upgrade on that is my next mobile upgrade. Thanks for the great review.
I wish these phones had bigger displays. I have a huawei mate 20 x. 7.2 inch display and is hard to give up.
Haha same. I've been using this bad boy since December 2018. This is the first phone to make me consider finally giving it up...
@@Manskeeeee Damn are you feeling the battery degradation?
@@shellshock7043 Yeah, a bit. I live in China, though, so I'm sure getting the battery replaced wouldn't be a problem. It's just starting to feel choppy at times and I'm wondering if this phone would finally be an upgrade.
@@Manskeeeee I don't really consider my phone is getting choppy.
The virginity armor joke was hilarious, my fiance said "Didn't work, you still had a kid"

I love the transition between the subject I love it made my day thanks brother
The Red Magic 9 Pro seems to be a game-changer, especially with the Snapdragon 8 gen 3 chip improving its performance and efficiency. The under-screen front-facing camera seems pretty impressive too.
This comment seems to be written by a bot, especially considering the segmented praise of random features, without any emotion.
@@lufycz. It is, same type of comment on JerryRigEverything about this same phone. Funnily enough, these comments make me more skeptical about buying from this company even tho I was researching and open to buying it, if it turned out to be a legit good product, but all I see are chatgpt bots and sponsored reviews.
Simply one of my favorite phones. I never thought a phone company would get me excited at all.
Got the 8S pro version, this thing is an actual steal for 650, it is an amazing phone.
Only down side i have is their screen protectors, they got black edges and will cut off couple pixels from your original screen which someone definitely did not thought of that...
If anyone used razer phone 2 like me you will love this phone.
Been using Red Magic since 5G here and man I love these phones. It deserves for more people to recognise it.

Frame generation on mobile will be a game changer
If they supported their phones with software updates then this would be a compelling buy. But you're going to get like 1 update for the next year then that's it.
My RedMagic 7 is still getting updates and it's 2+ years/generations old.
If only they allowed you to unlock the bootloader...
Just a disclaimer, this phone lacks full US 5G support and AT&T absolutely hate these kinds of phones, so be prepared to have a backup plan in case your US SIM starts failing on it.
Been charging the phone and playing all the time with no throttling issues whatsoever, in controlled ambient temperature,
My man. I had learn battery etiquette too late unfortunately.
Mora was all it took to make me contemplate about getting one of them!
I'm 99.99% certain that the controller at then end is just a re-skinned Gamesir G8. Still a cool product though
Not a bad thing. Their controllers are the only 3rd party controllers I've ever liked.
Just said the same thing.... I was like "heeeeyyyyy I have that controller!!" Honestly an amazing controller all around, best phone controller I have every owned!!!
That gamepad is literally a GameSir G8 Galileo
nice phone !!! great features !!! can't wait to try it out !!! (after sending this comment you will get a bowl of rice. don't forget to delete this)
8:03 I think that they should have reduced the resolution from 2480x1116 (2.77mp) to 2400x1080 (2.59mp). I mean, 0.18mp isn't much, but it still reduces the number of pixels and gives you more fps. And you get a pixel-perfect image watching 1080p content.
As if the title applies to anyone in Linus' audience....
well me...
"That's as loud as it gets. That's not that bad" lol nice damage control there.
Your real wife will hate this video’s title
"comes with virginity armor" is a hell of a phrase LMAO
That's true but it would be nice if you could just specify if you want a charger in the box when ordering online, since that's where a large portion of purchases happen anyways.
dammnit Linus we need more Mora
Holy crap Mara comes with a phone now ?!?
7:00 It's hilarious to see the heat map peaked for all the genshin players trying to figure out what's on his screen lol
This thing is looking mighty attractive as a smartphone that doubles as an emulation handheld. Huge bonus that their official gamepad attachment appears to be high quality.
You forgot to mention the other benefit of no camera bump. That it will stay flush when you lay it on a flat surface.
Had this phone now for about 2 weeks and it's absolutely worth the money. The best part honestly is being able to play everything at ultra settings 120hz and no lag. Thing is a beast.
Ok... So you're saying that I bought a screen protector to place OVER the PRE-PLACED screen protector?!
It’s only plastic the pre placed screen protector
@@Arkinos so the dent on my screen is the plastic? When I put slight pressure on the screen a small dent could be seen. This gives me a huge relief.
"come with virginity armor"
That no camera hole punch is SO important.
Looks really rad. What's the EOL software/security updates date expected on the device? Hard to find info on the site.
Usually with redmagic and the other “gaming” phones it’s only 2 years of android system updates and 3 years of security
