HI Chris. I normally don't comment on videos but your first few moments rang so true for me. I saw the Arizona desert for the first time in my late 20s. I was expecting a barren landscape of sand dunes.. I was pleasantly surprised. One of the biggest things I remember was all the roads leading off to places unknown. Unfortunately I had rented a sedan and couldn't explore. I am living vicariously through you. Keep up the great work you are doing and have fun in your adventures. A big thanks to you.
I appreciate the bit of raw emotion when the death wobble hit your Jeep, sometimes things go bad and its good to express it and not bottle it up! Glad things eventually worked out
Chris you really captured the quiet beauty the desert secretly holds , few take time to notice. The desert surely gives such crisp colors sometimes, it's awesome ! Beautiful,. Ha ha, that dog knew you were feeling down, and came to keep you company I think. And what a good friend Mike is ! True friend show up ! 😎
Been in countless deserts around the world over thirty years in the military...not one is the same and for the most part the people have been amazing (not you Mr. Taliban ;-)...) And your coffee making scenes NEVER get old!! Keep on getting out there. and Be safe.
Looking at the prices of used Jeeps with the same amount of miles you have still going for 20K, and of course new Rubicons going for 55K, I think you should take your Jeep that is already lifted and modded the way you like back up the Summit jeep and tell them to replace all worn suspension components, track bars, shocks, give the engine a tune up with new spark plugs, flush the coolant, new belts, coolant hoses if needed etc. Way way cheaper than any other option.
I agree that's all wear and tear stuff and at that mileage with that severe duty use all makes brands and models will see those issues. Definitely not a reliability problem.
I agree, a small, easily rectified issue, can mushroom into a showstopper. I've gotten into the habit of crawling under the Jeep every morning when overlanding. Just to check bolts, hoses, lines etc.

@@cliffmorgan31 I think the Rubicon's Dana 44s are probably the best stock axle out there. Maybe the G-wagon but who could afford those? That place to me looks like northern Arizona! I'll be in Tucson this summer, can't wait! Everytime i go, i do some offroading with my nephew and brother in law. Its just beautiful.🌵👋😎👍
Great video Chris!! Keep your head up, I agree with most, typical wear and tear. Doubt anything else would handle the mileage and terrain much better. Possibly a Tacoma. Also not sure what scene was better on this video... the look on your face during death wobble, or the random dog laying down to sulk with ya, post death wobble. Be safe, Mike from WV.
Love your videos. You do such a great job of telling the story and keeping it interesting. Plus, your video quality is great! Keep making your videos like this :) I'd love to get inspiration from them for car camping, film making, and awesome locations
I agree with most comments about re-working your JK. JL's have a whole new set of issues and JK's are still pricey at best. With so many good parts and shops a re-work makes sense. Sorry for your bad week, but it is part of the adventure. Plan for it.
I was wondering if you were still using the Helio shower, hadn't seen it for quite some time. Great video as usual Chris. The track bar bracket is a pain. New one looks way beefier.
Chris sorry you had the additional repairs to contend with. However that aside I really enjoyed this weeks adventure, which is almost in my back yard... Keep on doing what you do and stay safe out there.
Watching through some of your videos from last year. I’m not a Jeep guy, I drive a 4runner, but man your Jeep is and has always been sharp looking. Love the somewhat stock look but the lift and stance and everything else just works!
Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument - That looks like another place to add to my list of camping adventures. Thank you for the great video tour. Summit Off Road to the rescue.. The sound seems to be a relay chattering, check for loose connections, ground wires loose, frayed or broken. Disconnect the battery, it will stop the buzzing sound, then reconnect and if it comes back check to see what item is causing the voltage draw then trace down the wire to see if it is hot to the touch, burnt or broken.
Sorry for your problems. It's nice that you found a garage that you can trust. I've watched several of your videos and it makes me wonder why you don't have a winch? A winch certainly would not have helped you in this case. But you are often in very remote areas and almost always alone. I'm sure you must have thought about it. I do realize that they are expensive and heavy. Care to share your thoughts?
He needs a ARB Brake booster mounted Air compressor (since he has limited interior space) for the amount of times he’s airing his tires down then having drive at speed on blacktop to find civilization again to air up?
He really needs at least a pair of $60 X-Bull Recovery boards. It's a major oversight on his part. I suspect it's because he's been convinced he needs to spend $300 on Maxtrax & I can see why that would stop anybody.
Hi Chris, I am a lone traveller like you and I camp/ offroad in the southwest desert. I had a 2001 Wrangler Sport with 80,000 miles. I struggled with death wobble for almost a year and spent so much trying to get it fixed and it never really was right. I also started having other issues crop up that were becoming more and more costly. After the death wobble, I lost faith in my Jeep. I became so worried about something else breaking and being far away from civilization that I stopped going on trips, which really bothered me. I debated on just taking it to a shop and really having it redone and totally fixed, but given its age and cost of doing all the work, it didn't seem worth it. I just felt no matter what I did, I was still going to worry about it. Plus, I dont have deep pockets, and cant do many repairs myself. While there are a few shops here in Los Angeles that do work on Jeeps, they are very costly. I have learned that many mechanics dont really have the abilities to work on modified Jeeps and some of the shops that do are not exactly...trustworthy. ( If anyone has any recommendations for shops here I would love to hear them) For me, getting a newer Jeep was the better way to go. ( 2016 Willys Wheeler) While it was more than the cost of getting the old one repaired, the piece of mind that I have a reliable vehicle has made a world of difference and now I go on trips with confidence. But, I am back at stock again, so thats a thing to deal with. Rubicons are another beast altogether and I so wish I had one, but they are out of my budget for now. I think Moparmagas' advice is sound. Since you have found Summit, which seems like a very competent shop, you may indeed be well served having them really going over it and getting everything right. I think the key is either being able to do the repairs yourself or taking it to someone you trust. As he says, you have it the way you need it and you still have lots of miles left on it. Its a tough spot to be in. Either way there is going to be some costs and pluses/ minuses to each choice. Best of luck and keep making your amazing videos. I really enjoy them.
I have never owned a vehicle with that kind of pop-top roof myself, but have seen other people with them. A great deal of them have an elastic type rope around the canvas so that when the top is lowered it pulls the canvas inward and prevents it from getting caught between the sides of the vehicle and the pop-top shell roof. I noticed you tucking yours in and thought that this may assist you. I enjoyed your video, thank you...
God...these videos are soooo well done! The amount of time setting up cameras and editing must be mind boggling! Professional quality and I love the fact that there is no music. I love the sounds out there. Incredible setup with the pop up top. Is that an Alu-Cab? Thanks for bringing us on the adventure.

Just found your site I have a couple places in Ajo that I bought years ago. I love the desert I think I saw your Jeep in the plaza. I drive a 98 so I was envious of your setup
I had a 6.2 LS / 6L80 swap done in my 09 JKU at about 122k and love it. Drives better than it did when it was new. Much cheaper than a new JKU and I know the history of mine (and it's still paid off). Thanks for another video adding to my "I need to go there" list :)
Chris, I thought the opening scenes with all those thorns led up to the cactus in the side wall of the tire causing some damage.I guess you got lucky on that one. I asked this before but didn`t get an answer , how do you air up off road? I think your Jeep has a lot of life left in it, Moparmaga is right, spend some money on it now and you`ll have a reliable vehicle again. My 2011 MB G55 has 130000 miles on it and I haven't even started on my adventure yet. I will set out in 2021 on a trip somewhat like yours and Im building my G in preparation. It will probably have 150000 by then, but I am buying a used VW Golf Diesel to help keep the miles down on the G. I really enjoy your videos and hope you find that special companion to share it with soon. Thanks, Jack
Good luck Chris. Just rest assured that whatever your issues, they pale in comparison to IAmJake’s. Lol. Enjoy the journey and thanks for all the wonderful videos. Peace
One addition I’ve love to see in your videos: occasionally show the temp on screen. Just a little graphic in the lower corner that says “65°” or something, you know?
I believe the noise your hearing is part of your hvac system, coolant gurgle. Next time you notice it, turn key to on position(RUN/not start) and switch your heater controls from the opposite that they are at(if on heat turn to A/C, if on A/C turn to heat) notice any change? There might be air in your coolant system which is not good as it causes cavitation which leads to holes in aluminum parts of the engine get a coolant flush done.
You'll be good, engine most likely needs a tune-up as you've put a lot of miles in dirty environments with little maintenance. I hope Summit checked these two areas otherwise I would not be surprised if the death wobble comes back: 1) track bar frame side mount - check to see if the hole is elongated... if so death wobble will be back. 2) check your ball joints... when you were shaking the front of your Jeep it sure looked like the passenger side balljoint was toast.
I'm lovin your adventures. Makes me miss my jeep, i did the same thing for awhile. I need to build a small offgrid home base in Az, then I'm getting back on the road! You do great camera work. 2019 is the year for Sagittarius boost. Keep up the good work.
When I saw the last part of your vid, and that sound that is coming from under the hood is one of your battery posts.... a lot of arcing going on. in the vid I could see the flash from the arcing. Check that out before you burn it down.
Stuff happens, but you got it taken care of. Love the Bill's Kevin Bacon Pizza segment. We'll be in Prescott next month to stop by the Granite Mountain Hotshots Memorial just Southwest on our way to the Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, UT. We'll definitely be checking out Bill's, because you've convinced me that pizza fixes everything. God Bless and Safe Travels!
You're in my neck of the woods. Might be too late, but I hope you hit up Bisbee, Coronado national monument, Parker Canyon lake, and the Chiracahuas...great places to visit in S. Az!
Hey Chris. Sorry for the unexpected obstacles this week. Sounds like you had some good friends to get you through it. Sorry you didn't make it to Tucson. If you find yourself coming through Tucson, give me a shout out. Pizza will be on me!! Safe travels Chris, enjoy Tombstone!!
I hope your jeep doesn’t catch on fire. On my TV it sounds as if the noise at the end of this video in the engine compartment is electrical arcing, which can burn you to the ground. I remember another youtuber by the name “coyoteworks”. His Jeep burnt down for no reason. Next time it makes this noise disconnect your battery cable and see if it stops. Thanks for the cool vids. I love Ajo AZ myself as well.
Yeah, I saw that video by Coyoteworks. Kind of made we wonder what was going on. Electrical arching is probably the answer. I have heard some comment on the net about the electrical problems they have with their Jeeps. But I love Jeeps and have been driving them for 30 years. I have never experienced any major problems, guess it is the luck of the draw. But that coyoteworks video really gave me pause.
Don’t worry about it ! It’s fixed and improved ! You spend more miles than practically everybody watching your channel combined ...you are always off the road!
You get one crazy amount of support in the comment section! I hope you come to Atlantic Canada during the summer. You should have a look at a regular cab / short wheel base half ton truck for your next overland vehicle. They are truly very similar in size on the outside and offer much more space on the inside. They also have much higher capabilities and are built to last longer, yet cost much less then the Jeep Rubicon.
I just switched from the FJ with top tent that I put 155k miles on to a Tacoma with the Khaya camper that you have used. The FJ is a MUCH better 4wd vehicle but when I looked up the cost of adding a alu cab tent, refrigerator, storage and other things for overlanding it felt like I was dressing up a dead man. Figuring out what the best overall configuration might be is mind-numbing so maybe Overland Expo West is the best prescription for ya.
Ball joints were the cause of my death wobble in my 2009 Jeep with 119k miles. . I had eplaced everything except the ball joints. Once I replaced the ball joints my death wobble was gone. Make sure you check them.
As a Landcruiser owner with almost 340,000 miles, I'm pretty sure this is where I'm supposed to take a shot at jeep quality? J/k, glad it got fixed up.
I love the points of interest too. however, I do have a request from you Chris... would you please frame the descriptions so we can pause the video and read the descriptions at least as much as possible... the ranch was at an angle and couldn't get the full descriptions. Thanks!

Good luck Chris. Just rest assured that whatever your issues, they pale in comparison to IAmJake’s. Lol. Enjoy the journey and thanks for all the wonderful videos. Peace
i have been a jeep man all my life,48 years... i went Toyota Tacoma and have no regrets at all!
km4fsi - Smart! 👍🏼 Enjoy...
Great vid... thx! Just discovered your channel and subscribed. See ya on the trails. Mark T & Forrest
I was hoping to run into you here in Tucson but maybe some other day. Cheers from Tucson AZ safe travels.
We were in Ajo about a month ago. Did the Diablo trail from Yuma and back. Beautiful. Really enjoyed our stop at BATES well too!
Chris, keep up the great attitude and roll with the punches. Be safe and see you next week.
So glad you enjoyed our desert. There is so much more for you to discover in Southern Arizona. Make sure you drive by the San Rafael Valley!
One addition I’ve love to see in your videos: occasionally show the temp on screen. Just a little graphic in the lower corner that says “65°” or something, you know?
Bang liked and loved 5 seconds in. Sights and sounds.
Can't believe how thin the metal was on the factory bracket! Glad your still alive!
THE SPIKES FROM THE CACTUS STRONG ENOUGH TO PUNCTURE YOUR TIRES ? BREATHTAKING VIEWS & BEAUTY !
Those Chollas are NARLY !
Keep your head up. It’s been inspiring to watch.
Heavy duty replacement part ! 👍
"This was a bad idea." That made me laugh. I really enjoy your videos.
You have to understand your personality..but when you do-You are a GREAT storyteller
You're in my neck of the woods. Might be too late, but I hope you hit up Bisbee, Coronado national monument, Parker Canyon lake, and the Chiracahuas...great places to visit in S. Az!
The Jeep is a keeper!
Thanks Chris have a nice day😎👍
Like your videos dude! Next time you're in St George Utah area let me know, I can take you out on some cool jeep trails around here.
Great video 👍🏼 grand scheme of things it’s small potato’s
Just Empty Every Pocket.
Been there
Think of it as a payment plan for the fun you have with it.
jeep, Jepordise each and every paycheck.
Great video thank you!
I thought that was due to grass under the engine.
Ask Scotty Kilmer what he thinks of (late model) Jeep products......
blusnuby2 It’s not a Toyota. Sell it.
They also have much higher capabilities and are built to last longer, yet cost much less then the Jeep Rubicon.
keep an eye on that steering box - sector shaft ,I believe they rectified the problem but the early JKs had problems breaking for several years.
I have an old cj without track bars or sway bars. Problem solved lol. I Enjoy your videos man.
Jeep on! the weakness in any vehicle will reveal itself for replacement in time. upgrade the part as you've done and move on! :)
Ball joints were the cause of my death wobble in my 2009 Jeep with 119k miles. . I had eplaced everything except the ball joints. Once I replaced the ball joints my death wobble was gone.
Make sure you check them.
Never realized how tall the cacti can get, just wow.
Thanks!
Sorry to hear you had problems. That's something I have seen before and you are correct in thinking it happen because of the death wobble.
Hey, Chris if your still in the Benson area come by the Rock Shop. Lunch is on me, have two great food places either side of my shop.
